Not in a van!
AFL Club
Collingwood
I don't think the Saints are out just yet, if you can dump players like Kosi who didn't fire either game, and find some good young blood to bleed into the side, you can still be a force for a few more years. Who knows, maybe it'll be chapter 2 of the Collingwood St Kilda grand final sagas? A draw and one each way, it seems a good saga could be building!

Also, I wanted to say I loved watching Goddard play, what a gun! Gutted Hayes' got the NS over him last week, after chewing my nails to the core HE was the one who killed us and got you guys back.

Tough luck Sainters, You'll get your next flag, maybe even in a redemption match next year? Hopefully no hard feelings, I know how this gutting feels, and I don't want to impose any trolling or disrespect onto you blokes, just wanted to let you guys know that you aren't down and out yet :).

It could well be the same two teams meeting again next year. Geelong aren't exactly on the way up, but it might depend if the Dogs and Freo can take the next step or not.

It pains me to discuss footy but yeah.
We have Walsh, Simpkin , Stanley, Smith, Steven maybe Gaertner, and Miles
All talented fast young players who may have a chance to displace some of our less talented players if they can get up to speed.
You won't have an easy run next year.

Gotta keep faith now and keep playing these players after a big pre season and see whos the goods because odds tell us 1 will be clearly better than kosi for our future, I am not a bagger of him in the past but man im sick of 2nd best, its too close too consistantly to not get 1 cup so my patientce is shot with him, our stars are as good as any in the league (yep buddy, Hodge, Gazza incl) but i am now sick to death of them carrying players. Gwilt has stood up......more need to

If Walsh could have a huge pre season and build himself up to be a 45-goal forward and put pressure on Koschitzke to perform that would be huge. When Riewoldt doesn't fire we seem to have an impotent forward line with no marking options. Kosi is absolutely useless once the ball hits the ground and isn't too flash anymore when the ball is in the air as well. Milney has another year or two but you'd think his best is behind him.

The midfield needs a serious injection of skill and pace and if Miles could take Baker's spot while adding rebound value then our defence would be set.

Can't see St Kilda getting to another grand final. They are just so damn hard to get too. There were more holes in the side in 2010, than in 2009. In both Grand Finals (and in the less-than-impressive win against the struggling Bulldogs), more worrying larger gaping holes were evident. This team needs to inject 5-6 good players at least, which will not happen over one off-season. We will look back at 2009 as this teams best chance.

How many could challenge a St. Kilda vs. Collingwood Replay next year?

Geelong- On the way down, lost their best player, coach and president. Aging players and Not enough youth playing shows the need of at least one down the ladder year.

Bulldogs- Will lose their number 1 goalkicker at the end of next year, but ruck division looks good (hudson/Roughead, Cordy will debut, Minson is an ideal 3rd ruckman.) Look good overall, but consistency from kids, along with Very good contributions from players like murphy, gilbee and Hall may see a challenge

Sydney- As good as they are, their ultimate best 22 is too old for my liking. Probably won't get there, but top 4 and prelim cannot be out of the equation

Fremantle- The most dangerous in my opinion. More good drafting, plus preseasons into young guys AND the return of Barlow scares me. Mitch Clark would put that dollop of cream they need to challenge (LIONS don't let him go!)

Hawthorn- An elite KPD and Franklin on the park 20+ Weeks of the H+A season could see a top 4 return, and a possible challenge. Roughead needs to kick straight, Rioli needs consistency and captain hodge just needs to be fit, that's when they're at their most dangerous.

Carlton- Not gonna say never but unlikely. Kruezer back in as support for Warnok, playing FF until required in the ruck, means Waite can be third tall with Henderson at CHF while the three smalls run rings around opposition defenders and Armfield goes around tagging rebounders. Midfield is elite, they just need a more solid defense, and defensive gameplan.

So Freo, Bulldogs, Possibly Sydney and/or Hawthorn should be challenging. With Carlton a long shot. Its possible, but big youth injection needed.

Rebuild, this list under this coach is not premiership material
A couple of bounces going our way either last year or this year and it'd be a different story. We've still got the same spine of our team, and I have faith we can challenge again next year.

Whilst I initially wondered why you'd bother logging on to this board, after reading that post I assume it is because no-one else wants to talk to you.

Yeah, we were so far off the mark in '09 and in the first GF this year, weren't we.

Bad luck, it sucks losing but with that talent you mention coming through I would tip the Saints to win maybe 2 flags in a row starting next year.

With King gone and Gardiner 'maybe' gone I think we need Kosi to become a Ruckman with McEvoy... this should free up a posi up forward for Stanley, with more opportunities for Lynch and Wash too.
If we keep Armittage then we really need to play him, I think he can do McQualters role and do it better as he's a better tackler, quicker, ball hungry and a goal opportunist.
I do and 'hope' to look forward to the youngsters getting games next year... including Winmar.

We should be aiming to imrpove as a team, this year we didn't improve on the last... that has to be the number one goal!

We will be competitive next year (probs top 4) but I have a feeling Collingwood are going to dominate the competition for the next 5 years. Our best 10 players are better than any other team however our bottom few tail right away with the likes of Peake, Eddy, Mcqualter, Dempster and Kosi being fairly useless. We need to find a new group of youngsters to take their positions however I don't think we have many good kids comming through at the moment. Next year we have to play Stanley, Miles, Geary and Armitage (if he's around) more often and hope they can give us a boost.

Some kids develop faster than others. The ones who are 6 foot at the age of 15 tend to be better at footy than others the same age. They also tend to be more ready to play at top level when they are 19 and get picked first in the draft.
Doesn't mean that they won't make the cut, but we don't know if they will.
It would have been easy to de-list Gwilt when he was 22, and no-one wanted a 22 year old Clinton Jones.
One of our most promising debutants , Luke Miles , turns 24 soon.
I'm not writing off our kids yet.

I think we need to get some serious game time into our young guys and we could be ok...

our best are amazing, we need to really push next year because otherwise it might be too late for hayes to get a premiership medal, and for hayes to miss out after harvey did would be too much...

Goddard's only 25, I think and he will be more hungry than ever... all that worries me is how hard it is for the players not to be a bit jaded...

we can win it next year whether we will is another matter...
