The AFL is investigating whether a St Kilda footballer took a banned substance after an irregular sample was provided by the player early this month.

Although the AFL is understood to have accepted the player could have taken the banned substance in error, he still faces a significant suspension from the game.

AFL spokesman James Tonkin would not comment on the investigation when contacted on Tuesday night. St Kilda officials did not return calls from Fairfax Media.

b) stand the player down pending the outcome of the investigation

if he has been found to have taken the illegal substance he should be delisted

surely we have the dumbest playing group going around. i dont think theres enough characters to write out our failings over the last 4 years. unbelievable

I said SOME of them not all. I do agree, though, it's not great for the Saints and the game itself. I reckon there might be more than a few players at other clubs that would be getting a bit worried now.

If someone cheated, I would be incredibly disappointed, and won't defend their actions in anyway.

It's like they went out of their way to recruit morons to the club. Seriously, how can a group of people collectively get involved in so much shit?

Cheating is cheating.

Surely if the players are explained the risks of supplements etc normally, each club must of massively ramped up the education on this kind of stuff....there is just no excuse.
