Ahmed Saad suspended for 18 months (ASADA appealing)

I'm a bit sick of hearing this.
Look at a transcript of what Watson said, then come back and quote the part that you think is an admission.
Its simply not.

I thought my photographic memory was eluding me, and ran the interview again, after your outburst! And what was your point? He was told they administered it too him; and 'your' point is?
My mouth would water to run the prosecution, if you sat on the defence.

Is there any practical difference between 18 months and 2 years for Saad? Both are two footy seasons?
Basically he would be allowed to return to training January 2015 so could resume normal football that season. 2 years wipes out both years and his career effectively.

Meanwhile, does anyone know who actually administers the appeal process? Surely its an impartial panel or something similar?

A specially convened Appeals body of the AFL Tribunal. Certainly an independent and impartial body

Is Dermie for drinking 8 cups of coffee before a match to get a rush a drug cheat??

Is caffeine in extreme doses a banned substance??

Baldur, care to do the honours? I can't be bothered

Some people are stupid, they cannot help this, but normally they know that they do not understand and are willing to accept guidance.

Some people are ignorant. They can be educated. This is what we have attempting to do. But if somebody has read our posts and still think that one punishment for everything is a good idea.

Then they fit the third class, fools. Ignore them, this is nothing you can do. Maybe one day the universe will smack them hard enough to open their eyes.

I can't make threads as I don't have that Privilege yet, But I wanted to make a thread asking if you think we are better off leaving ASADA/WADA and having our own Anti doping code/System?

Forget about being world renown for a second and just answer based on what would be better for our sport.

Not at present, has been at some times. If it was then a hell of a lot of AFL players would be in deep in it. The clubs hand out caffeine tablets like they are tic tacs before the game.

I agree it might be a bad look, but that's the way the process has to run.

I see it as a shot across the bows of the AFL.

This can't give EFC supporters any degree of comfort with regards the length of the possible bans their team is staring at.

ASADA has done one thing. It has ensured that Essendon will be speaking to their rich fans as we speak. Attempting to obtain the funds to fight any finding of any doping, no matter how minor, in any forum, with any method they can. ASADA has created for themsleves a very long and nasty legal battle.

I have my doubts they are capable of fighting it. It will cost millions, is the minister interested in funding it, or would he prefer to under fund it. Have ASADA lose the legal battle. Then say "the court has spoken, justice has been done". While thinking "dodged a bullet there, Saad the escape goat and we saved Essendon".

Personally I believe Australia as a whole should have its own independent doping administration that actually has a properly thought out and reasonable ruleset and also accountability.

WADA might get involved. They wont want their ( by default ASADA's ) system being declared illegal.
Seems they get involved when they want to.

WADA has not got the money to fight battles they do not need to win.

"WADA has dipped into reserves over the last two years to cover shortfalls for its operating costs.
But if funding continues to remain the same then the WADA will be forced to cut back its activities."

An attack on the process adopted by ASADA, in particular the dual investigation is a battle WADA does not have to win. It does not attack their system, just the conduct of one national body in one investigation.

Yes, can't remember his name but there was an Australian pentathlete suspended over exreme caffeine in his system. In large enough doses it is a stimulant.

WADA also cannot afford to let big teams know they can go to their lawyers and intimidate a national body out of completing an investigation.

We're in this one to the end.

You see intimidate, I see using the legal system to overturn a flawed process. The fact of the matter is neitheir of us know what WADA is thinking. But we know they have money issues.

one of the more amusing aspects of this board is the amount people seem to think they know what WADA and thinking and how WADA will act, when in fact they know jack shit.

At least I'm happy to admit I don't know what they're thinking at any given time

The AFL, on the other hand, dont have those issues.

And the precedent of clubs going to court is also something they want to discourage.

Like we as Australians wouldn't cover for drug cheats, drug cheating only happens in est Germany, mount alexander road etc etc
