From the club's Q&A page:

When will work start?

Work will start once the project is fully funded. We anticipate this to be later this year with the target of finishing early in 2020 to coincide with our 150th anniversary.

So, it might or might not happen.

It'll happen.

So the club makes one of the biggest, if not the biggest, announcement in its history, and we have people pissing and moaning in here that it probably won't happen.
Correct, if it's not fully funded to me it's just a blue sky statement at this stage.

It'll happen. These are the things that we get done. The only issue might be if the Libs get elected, which they won't. Even if by some chance they do though, we may be able to lean on the Sally Zou connection.

JFK 1961 - we are going to the moon before this decade is over. We dont know how the **** we are going to do it, we haven't recruited the astronauts, engineers, rocket builders yet, we haven't set the budget and funding process yet, but we are going to have a crack.

That's how I see this announcement. One to focus the mind and set a target date to achieve it. Stop talking about it, start finding the people and resources to do it.

Many thanks to Lockhart Road sending that email. Fantastic for the club and community. Will ensure PA remains at Alberton and resourced for the next generation.
Now just to get a bronze Bruce Weber statue sorted in a prominent position.
