Albums that really impressed you

The Black Parade-My Chemical Romance.

I saw them live at the Green Day concert at the Dome and I was really impressed with their energy and showmanship on stage, but I wasn't really that impressed with their music. When the album came out I bought it in interest and it has since become probably one of my 5 favourite albums of all time.

Same here. They get alot of bad press for being 'emo' or whatever label people wanna put on them. But I got the album, and found it to be just a good, powerful, dramatic Rock album.

I'll put the ones in that were risks for me at the time that i bought them (compared to what i listened to at the time):

Beastie Boys - Check Your Head. I wasnt into Hip Hop at all when i first saw "So Whatchya Want" on Rage one night. It wrecked my head, i went and got the album and it absolutely killed. Still does.

Massive Attack - Mezzanine. Wasn't yet fully into the whole electronic thing. This album more than impressed me - it changed my life

Bic Runga - Drive. Really girly, but beautifully crafted tunes.

Kelly Clarkeson - Hide Away. Yep, i bought a Kelly Clarkeson album. And absolutely loved it. Not a bad tune on it.

Depeche Mode - Ultra. Not my usual kind of thing at all, but this is a masterpiece IMO.

Groove Armada - Love Box. Another rather large step outside my comfort zone, but for what it is, its bloody well done.

Pavement's - "Brighten The Corner's" was a real surprise packet. Not many expected Malkmus to come up with anything near "Slanted And Enchanted" or even a "Crooked Rain" but this one stands up well.

"Snakes and Arrows"...and it hasn't been released yet! But "Far Cry" should be getting its first spins around the 19th.

Having said that, the other Rush albums are great as well!!!!

BTW, look for a Cameo of Geddy Lee on a future episode of "Gilmore Girls" soon!!!!

Do you know when that's going to air? Haven't watched a single minute of a single episode, but would love to see the Ged-meister on TV! (and not on my Rush in Rio or Show of Hands vids!)

Disturbed - The Sickness

Was my favourite album for a while :D

Yup same for me. Bought it not expecting much at all. Ended up listening to it everyday for a couple of months.

hed (pe) - Broke, was another that I bought not expecting too much but ended up having a number of good tracks on it.

Sander Klienenberg - Everybody, Its a Renaissance. Was a big fan of some of his production work over the years but his mix cds always seemed a bit bland and dissapointing. This cd just blew me and most of the dance music community away. Was ultra funky and it spawned about half a dozen of the best tracks of 2003.

Yeah, although I don't listen to it much anymore, except for of course Enemy and The Game.

I went through a stage where songs like 'Meaning of Life' and 'Dropping Plates' and stuff where actually my favourite songs, and thought "This is Metal!"

I'm glad I started listening to Metallica, Trivium, Megadeth, Slayer, Iron Maiden, and stuff like that :thumbsu:
