125 today, following an 82* last week and 99 in the ODD. Time to get him in. Paine's time is up.

Carey needs to play in the ashes whether that's as keeper at 7 or a batsman at 5/6. I've been a fan of Paine but if its him that will make way for Carey let's get on with it.
I'd personally bring Carey in at 6 as temporary solution, and once Paine retires, Carey slots down to 7 and hopefully then someone has piled on enough runs in the Shield to bat at 5/6.
And not that young if we are thinking about the future.can bat a bit , poor keeper

If he can continue keeping like he has to start this series it will be the biggest win to take away from this summer. The big test will come when he needs to keep in the sub continent but he has so far exceeded my expectations so far. I thought if he could be solid with the gloves that would be a decent outcome but he has been damn near flawless so far.His keeping looks quality
Might be a late bloomer?

being his home deck helps one would thinkSeems to be catching them well to Lyon with the bounce pace and spin on Adelaide
I'll put my hand up and say I was wrong about both his keeping and his batting. That 51 in the first innings was impressive. Came in with the game on the edge (5/294 when Green was dismissed) and knuckled down well.He originally was a very good keeper and then he went off the boil for 2-3 seasons, but I reckon that was due to his lack of red ball cricket. How often does a keeper take the ball in a white ball game? A T20 he would be taking the ball probably 10-15 times an innings.
He's been faultless so far, small sample size I know but how good he has looked should give people confidence.
Case and point. First shocker from Carey. You have the gloves go for the ball dont watch it race past you for 4
Always been a very good keeper. Had a poor World Cup a few years ago but barely misses in the shield games he plays and now showing what I’ve always known. He’s a very good keeper.
What a load of rubbish. Suggesting he shouldn't be picked because he MIGHT fail in India.Still far from convinced on his keeping or his batting. Would have preferred Inglis (or Pierson) but they went with Carey so hopefully he can prove me wrong. The challenge wont be batting when the game is firmly in Australia's control or keeping on flat pitches it will be when we are 5-80 against india on the sub continent with two spinners turning it square on a raging turner or when your keeping in the 130th over of the innings and you get a half chance

he missed a few chances in that world cup which made the eastern state supporters think hes poor. Ive argued with them that hes very good for years.Poor 2019 WC ????
Did i miss something i dont recall him being bad. I remember he scored plenty of runs in the back end of the innings 375 runs @ 62.50 with 3 fifties and don't remember him missing many chances as keeper
He was one of the few that could hold their head up high in that semi final debacle when he batted and survived a barrage early on and at least gave smithy a partner to bat with

Wow.
Wow. Did you actually watch this test sober?
Apart from one mistake, he was flawless and kept beautifully to Lyon.
Every keeper would struggle in the apocalyptic conditions you describe above.
