Sometimes players are worth taking risks on. Now AJ may never actually get to the top again (I believe he will) but as a supporter of this club, I believe it is our duty to give him every chance to come back, until he calls it a day!
Couldn't care less if he takes up valuable cap space because such a player is the invisible heartbeat of the club!

No matter where or when - I'll be there the day AJ runs back out onto the ground. I've set aside some funds for it already. When his name goes up on the teamsheet I'll be booking my flights (unless it's a NAB cup game in Adel).

Super stoked in his courage & determination. You can't buy that attitude. No draft pick will assure you that kind of dedication. Our club is so lucky to have him. The positive impact on those around him as he continues to pick himself up off the canvas time after time would be huge IMO.

Guys like Titch, Lamb or Mummy should look at AJ and feel lucky they got a chance to chase $ & "opportunity" elsewhere. It could have easily been them in AJ's position.

Although I agree with most of your post. I don't begrudge any of those players leaving for money. They were list decisions.

And look at lamb, he did the right thing by his career. Probably would have ended up on the scrap heap earlier.

I'm sure they know that, which is why you take the big money offers when they come.

Oh yeah of course. I wasn't saying I begrudge any of them for their decisions. Far from it. I hope they take their opportunities & run with them.

Hopefully AJ provides a reminder as to how lucky they are to be able to play, sometimes play well enough to capitalise. No matter how good you are a set back or career threatening injury can come swiftly & unexpectidly, as we saw with AJ.

Just feel bad for AJ, he'd be an elite AA defender by now. Praised by all & sundry. Offers coming out the wahzoo. Paid premo because he would be.

Instead he's fighting towards a goal most would have already given up on already with the likelihood of money like Toms probably getting now probably out of reach for him. Just shits me.

Thought Shaw was a great get at the time, but had no idea about his off field leadership.

And to think he was discarded because of his off field behaviour.

Has been a leader for our club ever since he arrived. Great person to have behind the scenes, because people don't just talk about how fun he is or how good a person he is, players appear genuinely inspired by his impact on them.

We'll done shawy.

I've mentioned it before, but back in the U18 championships Shaw was a member of the victorious Vic Metro team.

Team went out to celebrate, Shaw volunteered to stay behind to keep an eye on a fellow team member suffering concussion.

Rhyce was there for that teammate, for Rohan coming back from his broken leg, for AJ, 140 games, premiership player and seemingly a fine coach as well.

Handy investment for a trade of pick 46. :)

The list of people who have cited Rhyce Shaw as an inspiration to their football keeps growing. Has been one of the great gets with his value off field being as important to when he was on it.

I was one of many that had significant concerns when we recruited Shaw - but by gee he has really proven us all wrong. A wonderful playing career at the club has followed, and his influence off the field, both with teammates like Shaw and then also on the youngsters has been incredible.

He may just end up being a future senior coach one day. His work with the ressies this year was superb - being able to consistently adapt, despite several of his best players making the move to the AFL level. A real shame they couldn't get a deserved Premiership win against the plastics.

Also, fantastic news that AJ remains on track for some sort of return in 2017 :)

Hope it happens but I just can't see it at this stage :(

It gets harder to hold out hope for fans. It may not be us going through what our players face, but as fans, we share in the excitement of their accomplishments, and in the anguish when they fail or are injured. And with his last 2 procedures, my heart has gone out to Alex.

But I admire Alex for holding out hope. I would think 90% of players ever would have hung up the boots had it been them, and gone on to the next chapter. The odds of him getting back are still long, but those odds were just as long for him to run again. And as long as he won't stop trying, I won't stop hoping and praying for him.

If the moment comes that he takes the ground again, all who are present might wear hearing protection. The roar will rightfully be epic.

A Jordan Dawson guernsey? Show a bit of optimism AJ and give him one of those Number 2 jumpers you're about to star in!
Who ever you are, we know he has number 2 now, that was from the great year.
Lets hope we all get to see him in the 2, if not remember how good he was in that year.
