I aam with the majority of people saying we should rookie list him. He is a superb young guy. He gets back playing in 2017 at the earliest has about ten games under his belt in the twos then we promote him to the senior list for the remainder of the season.

This. You can automatically upgrade someone after the mid season break anyway.

Is the Open Mike worth a watch? Can't believe he was a 2012 premiership player (probably one of the best on ground as well). So heartbreaking for him, but his drive is there and sometimes that's all you need. Rotten luck, but can't wait to see him back out there. If he was injury-free post 2012, I reckon he'd have an AA or two to his name.

defiantly worth a watch, it's on the Swans website.

question is, how did the infection get in there? Sounds like the surgery staff messed up. I wonder if the club sued?

More like one of those freak things from what i read, probably just a side effect rather than a massive mistake that warrants litigation

Hospital infection caused by poor cleaning and poor hygiene. UK hospitals have the same problem.

He said it was a bacteria commonly found on the skin and not a superbug. If a superbug it may have been better as they have specific antibiotics to treat it. They have removed the ACL and done a bone graft to fix the holes from the previous surgeries. They found no evidence of infection when they did that and have left time for it to heal which I think would also allow the immune system to get rid of any remaining bacteria. Hopefully a new ACL will not trigger a flare up and given what he said I would be as optimistic as he seemed to be.

The bacteria would have gotten into the knee during the surgery which is a breakdown of infection control. It is a risk with any surgery and would have formed part of any consent form that he signed. Very hard to sue.

As all of this is public information so I would be concerned about another club wanting to get him. A minimum contract and a place on the list is probably not too big a cost given the potential returns.

Would he leave Sydney tho? Risky taking on someone injury prone like that. Could turn out to be an Eski or a Gumbleton. Plus, the club has stood by him & Id like to believe he will return that sentiment. Much like Eski, repay the club.

Well worth the wait imo

Good 194cm running defenders are a very good asset , plus he plays small and tall.

Like someone said the other , elite in intercepts etc.

Rance is a bloody good player and AJ reminds me a lot of him , big comment I know

I like Rampe a lot, but AJ was as good as a 20 year old as Rampe is now. Reckon he'd have been borderline elite by now had he stayed on the park.

I hope he stays. 2 good years, 3 ordinary ones. May want a change? I hope he's loyal and wants to return the support the club's provided.

It makes me so angry thinking about how good this guy is and how unlucky he is to have had such a bad run with his knee. I have no doubt he would have been a standout player by now if this hadn't of happened. Let's hope this time, he can get himself fit. It's going to be hard for him but he has an attitude that not many people possess. He doesn't feel sorry for him self, and he holds the belief that he'll be back. I think if this reco works and there is no infection, with a bit of luck, he might just make it back. Fingers and toes crossed for you Alex xx

Agree

All due respect to rampe i think aj could be a lot better if bloody injury never happened

What I miss is how he wouldn't back down from anyone and would give anyone a fair shove if they hit anyone untoward or went the niggle. No fear then and maturity now which really shone though in his interview. Probably only have schneider ahead of him for contributing as much following debut in the debut year at least. Alex didn't really put a foot wrong after debut.

What makes it worse is that he's the exact player we need. Not quite a KPD but close enough and mobile.

Twice as good as Rampe, not even in the same class !

Actually, AJ and Rampe would be a formidable duo in my opinion and I'm looking forward to the day they WILL PLAY together!

The original comparison was to Rance (ie Alex Rance of Richmond), not Rampe. I agree that he showed more than Rampe has (which is no slight to Rampe) and generally plays "taller". If he turned out to be as good as Alex Rance post-injury, I'd be pleasantly surprised.
