Pretty depressing news if true about Morabito. I'm quite pissed off about the whole thing. Someone has screwed up badly ... either Morabito, the medical staff, the surgeon, or any combination of them.

I think you'll find that the general consensus on this board would be that its all Mark Harvey's fault.

If I remember correctly though, one of the first things Rossco did when he got here was put pressure on Mora not to go on a holiday break, but instead get an early start on pre-season. Now he doesn't look ready to go until mid-year, so what gives?

Lift your game Reg, not a single mention of The Steves ;)

Well, I thought their Morabito voodoo dolls with pins sticking out of the knees were in poor taste, but you can't really discuss what the CEO and President are up to in a pre-season thread.

Lower looks like he will be used exclusively as the inside mid getting the hard balls this year. He has been singled out to a coach of his own doing a separate drill where he gets a ball at ground level and dishes it off around a few cones. Has done this 3 or 4 times that I've been to training now. Also, of the three players that had post season shoulder surgery he is easily the furthest along and it doesn't look like he ever had it.

Thanks dude, I was hoping this would be the case with lower. He was coming into his own in this position towards the end of last year and could be brilliant at it. Sounds like Ross has cottoned onto that. Great signs.

It's not a strict rule but something for us to think about...

Last year David Mundy had his highest dream team average of 95.9,
Nick Lower had his highest scores when played through the middle (Against Port - 119, Against Sydney - 130),
Michael Barlow, when fit, would be good for 95-115 points,
Nathan Fyfe averaged 98.3
Stephen Hill and Hayden Ballantyne are looking much improved this preseason.

With Barlow, Mundy, Lower, Fyfe, Ballantyne and Hill in the middle, it's hard to see how any opposition player will ever touch the ball. If our major ball winners are able to keep up their outputs or continue with their improvement, we should be able to smother opposition midfields.

It's boding very well, statistically.

Thanks for the reports guys.

Today’s training session was short comprising of basic drills and finishing off with about 10 players doing running drills. There was only half the squad out training with the rest presumably doing weights etc…

Notable mention was Fyfe who looked good out their running freely. He didn’t do further running after skills training. Mayne looks like he has also returned well from rehab group. His kicking was good and he moved well.

Walters and McPhee ran away from the group. It appears McPhee is fitter than the young Walters and when they ran past me the first time McPhee was encouraging Walters to keep up.

Out of the new recruits Sheridan, Neale and Schloithe trained well.

For FREODOC your buddy Broughton was solid as ever. It was a very basic session as I think today was focussed also on weights and work inside as only about 22 players participated in training on the oval.

I'll try and place some pics up in a few mins.

Thanks for the update JMT :thumbsu:

3...2...1...and you're back in the room!

Haha, yeh it is pie in the sky stuff.

If there are 400 possessions a game and our midfielders are picking up 160 of them, moving the ball forward, I would be very surprised if we lost and the opposition half backs and wingers didn't touch the ball almost fifty times each.

If two thirds of the midfield possessions are kicks, then that's about 105x35m kicks, without any run and carry factored in at all. The opposition has to move the ball 3700m just to get the ball back to the centre square.

That was to concentrate on his rehab because he's behind schedule, not to run a marathon.

Surely two weeks with the fitness staff and physio's would have more benefit than sitting in a bar in Kuta for a fortnight?

If his rehab was not progressing well, I would say all the more reason to be here rather than bludging in Bali

So frustrating the set back issues surrounding mora.
Does anyone have any idea on what these set backs actually were?
Mora was training with the rehab group this morning ,think there is a lot of mis information being peddled at the moment,I/d wait until the end of Jan like Pav said and see if he does join the main group.

Cheers dude.Personally I'm not fussed if mora doesn't return until mid-year.
Mora might have to carry his pre-season well into season proper to have any chance of having an impact in the back half of the season.

Good to know. Has anyone seen Mundy kick a ball this year. I've been down a few times & haven't even sighted him anywhere. Same Michie.

From the training sessions i've been down to I have seen very little of Mundy and none of Michie.

One positive is that Pav said in an interview that players in the rehab group Mundy and Fyfe arn't far away from rejoining the main group.

Since that interview both Mayne and Fyfe has joined the main group and looked to be moving freely. This means that the rehab staff are making sure they are right to go before they come back to full training. Both seem to have a spring in their step during training.

I'm sure they are doing the same with Mundy and Michie and when Mundy does appear i'm also sure he will be performing well on the track like the other ex rehab players.

Perhaps, but does the available evidence support that? Would he have been unavailable even longer if he went to Bali? It would also be unlikely that he would be sitting in a bar the whole time.

Its called rest. I hear its quite beneficial in recovering from injury.

If Harvey was still coach and did the same there would be squeals about over-working injured players.

I find hanging out on the beach with my crew of hard drinking, hard banging uni student/apprentice friends very restful.

Who said anything about him being worked hard? He'd be in Perth doing his rehab for whatever stage of his recovery he was at, as opposed to getting pissed in Bali doing no rehab.
