The problem with Walker is he couldn't bounce the ball with any consistency, so he'd use his pace for 15-20m then just bomb it. He often touched the ball on the ground denting his pace.

Very true. Although Ballas is prone to similar mistakes with regard to inconsistencies bouncing the ball... Obviously the faster you are going the harder it is.

I think the fact of the matter is he should have been rated higher at this years draft.

As someone who watches football in SA closely I was astounded that other players were considered before Lachie was. He was, to me, the standout inside mid over here and when you throw in his personality traits and character you have a pretty solid investment.

Some clubs would not have needed another inside mid (a pretty loose argument I know) but I honestly think that many clubs may not have done enough homework on him. Fremantle did and kudos to their recruiting department.

I do know that a one recruiters over here sent an email to the club they work for comparing Lachie to Toby Greene (a discussion made on other threads here on BF) and quite simply, the numbers and considerations actually appeared to fall in Lachie's favour. The club he worked for had spoken to Lachie but for various reasons could not take him. I personally rate Greene also....

Let's face it, not a game has been played in anger yet so we should not get ahead of ourselves. There is a long way to go and it's really exciting time for all the draftees and particularly Fremantle. They drafted very well.

I won't lie - I actually know Lachie well and have watched him closely over the last couple of years so possibly I am a bit biased, however, I have worked in a number of talent systems over the years so have seen a few good kids first hand who have made it to the top in the past. He is cheeky character but a very grounded kid also and doesn't ever get ahead of himself. He has got his foot in the door through sheer hard work, perseverance and bloody mindedness. His development in the last 12 months has been quite amazing and he has achieved at every level he plays at. Every challenge that gets thrown at him he thrives and seems to succeed at it. He knew he had to get everything right to get drafted last year and he worked tirelessly, made commitments and sacrifices and did everything right.

This, obviously is his biggest challenge to date and a great test for him.

He loves it at the club already and would love to be at the club for many, many years. Let's hope he was one of the bargains of the 2012 draft and the Docker supporters can watch him for many seasons to come.

Roll on season 2012!!

Roll on season 2012!!

Now thats what I call a glowing reference.

Jayden Pitt must have the fastest metabolism. Since the 15th of November he has put on only one kilo. Now weighing in at 77Kg's. That's basically 1Kg every 8 weeks. Maybe they are focussing on his endurance now.

Sounds like Neale's starting to build a bit of a big wrap on here. Any thoughts on why he wasn't rated higher in the draft amongst the other midget inside mids in the top 20?

Not every your player gets an opertunity to play for their state. He may have flew under radar but is worth his weight in gold as he may be small but has the heart the size of a lyon/lion (mind the pun or don't mind it).

After hearing all of the talk about Neale it is just annoying that there is no footage of him playing. would have loved to have seen a highlights real of him. i recorded the state under 18s game on foxtel of him playing for SA against WA and have watched it a couple of times and while not dominating ro anything he does do some nice things. His kicking didn't seem to crash hot, not bad but just a bit loopy.

I remember a big campaign boosting the stocks of BO'B. I hope it's not the same people who've simply switched to Neale.

That's a strange thing to say. I don't see the connection.

I personally thought (and still think) BO'B is a very handy footballer based on the impact he had in a couple of games of AFL that he managed to get on the park for. I've also watched Neale at training & been impressed with his ability to get involved and his skills but for the life of me I can't see how these 2 facts can be connected.

I just think there's a bit of a bandwagon rolling here. Just as BO'B seemed to attract support without anyone really having seen him play, Neale seems to have become an instant favourite and a best 22 selection, also without anyone having seen him play. Not that we want negative comments on newcomers either. I would just like to see him play a game or two before making any sort of judgement. Get back to me in April or May.

Great write up Dietrite, excellent informative stuff on one of the newbies.....sounds like he could be a bargain at 58.
also pleasing to hear that he is loving the club and that seems to be a common theme running through the club ....that knowone wants to jump ship

Totally different scenario with BOB ,who played an absolute cracker of a game first up......hence the bandwagon..everyone knew he would be good but injury savaged a promising career.
Although Neil hasnt played yet by all reports he is doing everything right at training and putting his hand for selection, wouldnt say he was lock in best 22 but has to be a chance according to Lyon,Stone etc

The criticism of BoB was his ability to stand up to the rigours of AFL football.

Haven't seen anything at all to suggest Neale is similair, so no idea how you've made the comparison.

All I can see is people who've made it down to training relaying how well he's gone about it. Not sure how that equate to band wagoning.

The BOB thing was a bit of fun more than anything IIRC. Sort of a Chuck Norris style running joke. Most of the people who wrote that stuff probably weren't even serious.

They're training him to eat opposition players for breakfast

Really? They were trying to be funny then???:eek:

Sad.

About on par with the MJ pointing wagon.

Lesson one in comedy - a punchline is only funny when it's unexpected... or delivered exceptionally well.

Neale has also proven himself, to certain degree at least, against men in the SANFL. So it is incorrect to say that he is an unknown quantity as he has the runs on the board already.

Anyone who thought the BOB stuff was serious needs their head read.

The fact that Neale was one of the best players in the finals of SANFL says heaps. I have been reading about him for months and know he was rated very high in SA. Think it must have been the hobbit size that stopped him being drafted---he is as tough as they come and his attitude is outstanding
---maybe the second Peter Bell.
So ----no ---we are not jumping on the bandwagon without knowing how he plays in a game.
