you guys are being way too critical towards what are essentially just first drafts for a competition that doesn't start for another six months.

If you dont want them to be rated then dont post them. They are up here for a reason, to get people's advice. If you want us to lie and tell you that the safest, most risk-free move is to start with Walker, Ottens, Hille, Burton, Hunt and McVeigh, then thats what we'll do. :thumbsu:

Here's my first draft plan team, which im very happy with!

Backs:
Enright
Hodge
Cornes
Gilbee
Ladson
Kennelly
Hunt

Midfield:
Judd
Bartel
Mitchell
Cooney
McVeigh
Scully

Rucks:
Cox
Hille

Forwards:
Deledio
Pavlich
Franklin
Harvey
Medhurst
Burton
Trengove

I wont mention the bench, since its pointless talking about it until at least the draft. :thumbsu:

strangely though you seem to have most of them in your draft... plus Ladson, Kennelly and Medhurst.

these teams are just basic frameworks, i don't see the point in getting overly critical with them until we see pre-seasons and some NAB Cup.

Too many risks, you could call the team the Krispy Kremes

Seems you have a lot of the more injury prone players - true, they are good value but me thinks you have the ratio of injury-prone players wrong.

Fair enough. Actually even now I've realised there's probably too many mid-level players there. Indeed many of those players are risky since they are coming back from injury but assuming they have solid preseasons they could still be useful cash cows.

Definite wait and see on Luke Ball. 461,000 is not a cheap price! Even at his best you'd only have him 520k. Not a fan of Kennelly given he will be roughly 28 with a shoulder that goes pop! Of course, if he stands up, his price is great!

I've heard Kennelly mentioned a couple of times.

Which begs the question- Didn't he retire and move back to Ireland?

Or am I missing something?

Article a few days ago saying hes a possible return. I doubt he'd get much of a discount as fanfooty is showing either...Cousins didn't get one.

Not a lot of guys there who I have but I can see the logic in most. Pretty good balance but I have concerns with your midpriced backs and forwards. There are better buys around I think and you are trying to hit too many home runs. I would take a rookie in there probably in the forward and upgrade Osbourne, Reiwoldt or Pears to a true premium. There a few good forward rookies next year (no backs much though).

Also consider whether you want to pay top dollar for guys who are coming off career highs or who usually fluctuate a lot in price during the year. Chances are you might get them a lot cheaper later. Goodes is an excellent example here and is a guy you are paying top dollar but always has slow periods and his price is likely to drop under 500k at some stage.

You've done a good job identifying SC players rather than DT players with Palmer, Walker, Hille and SJ being guys who aren't. There is obvious value in the prices of those guys however so you should make money although I would expect you will need to upgrade them during the year. SJ is one I will be staying away from however. He has never been a strong SC player and he is priced about right. He has also had injury issues which might well carry over into next year or at least affect his preseason.

Dangerfield in the midfield is interesting. He is one I do have although I have him in my forward line. Usually if you have a dual listed player you play them outside the midfield if you are going to pick them. Not always the case though and if you like forward options more than the mids than fair enough.

Rooke is the odd one for me. At that sort of midrange price I don't see the value. It is not like he is particularly young and I can't see a huge jump from him. He might get up to 400k but that is pretty meh for what you are paying.

On Ball I take it you are thinking he could come back ala Dal Santo. Possible and worth a gamble although he has not been the SC star that Dal is.

As far as i knew he did retire and move back to ireland but he is still on sydneys list. They mustnt have taken him off as it was after all trade and draft periods so if he did decide to come back they wouldnt have to draft him in.

kennelly moved back and stayed on sydneys list and under the proviso if he won the premieship with his gailic football team he will move back that is my understanding of the deal they struck

as for the team i put up i think it is not bad but a lot of work have a few penciled in for next season such as:Enright Lake Cooney Delidio

Have been thinking that it seems that every year there are quite a few rookie midfielders that can quickly become $400,000 players. Last year we had Rich, Beams, Otten, Dangerfield, Hill, Picken, Joseph etc. all named early on and they scored quite well. Despite this years draft being apparantly relatively weaker maybe I team such as...

Backs:
Newman, Enright, Hodge, Cornes, Gilbee, Walker, Hunt (Rookie, Rookie)

Midfield
Selwood, Gibbs, Cooney, Rookie, Rookie, Rookie (Rookie, Rookie)

Rucks: Kruezer, Hille (Rookie, Rookie)

Forwards: Goodes, Riewoldt, Deledio, Pavlich, J.Brown, Medhurst, Rookie (Rookie, Rookie)

With over $100,000 left, could work. Thoughts?

with this years draft being the last normal one are we more likely to see more mature aged players like broughtan in this years draft???

Rucks: Kruezer, Hille (Rookie, Rookie) quote]

Your ruck looks a bit weak. It might take Hille a while to return to good form (if he ever does) and Kruezer is still very young.

i am too lookin at this as my ruck combo as hille is dirt cheap kruezer is on the verge of being there if kruezer will play 22 games barring injury hille is still a good player and at that price if he is named for rd1 i will be on him and hope he holds up this also saves u some cash to spend else where Carlton kid u need some more quality in the guts though

The team I named is just an idea. it was just an example of the kind of backline and forwardline that can be achieved from playing those 3 rookies in the midfield. i believe that that team would have done quite well this year with all the fantastic rookie mids. However, there is a very low chance that I will go with this idea unless many midfielders show their quality in the pre-season. :)

Well with Judd facing suspension, he might miss the first two games. That makes him less appealing as a starting premium.
Perfect for a Round 3-4 trade of an underperforming/injured premium, like a Wells or Sburger this year.

Same thing happened to Goddard in 2008. Came in Round 4 or something.

I hope so. I would take him as an emergency at that price. How long in the draft do the prices go down to $94,200. Like of corse Skully and Trengrove wont start at that but how far down the draft list untill they get to that price?
