Amnesty

I wonder if this amnesty extends to things like a new van and electrical equipment gifted to a favourite son of a club opposite Trinity to get him back from Blackburn for the 2010 season ?

as much as this is a massive swipe at one particular club (and Half Back Pocket he must be talking about the 3 clubs clubbies teams that play at bulleen park, because thats the thing close to a team opposite trinity). This does beg the question are clubs going to come clean on the new kitchens for players? new bathrooms? new extenions on houses? drink cards at the best melb night spots? dinners at the cities finest restraunts? or just when a club has been leaving brown paper bags in the lockers?

Wouldn't it be easier, just to form a new league with clubs that wanted to pay players? Do any such leagues already exist in Melbourne?

While we're at it, we sholuld have an Olympics and a Tour de France for guy's who want to take steroids, then we'd see how fast someone could really run or ride.

To be honest that is an absolute insult to a club and player who have worked their arses off to be where they are. Dolly would be happy to discuss this in person if you have the courage not to stand behind an anonymous persona. I sense a fair bit of jealousy.

I can say categorically that this is slander and that Al decided to return to the club where he went to school, and where his mates still played to work with the new regime to take Old Carey exactly where it is today - in premier section

So long as you are saying it categorically OC, then best I sit up and take notice. I'm not jealous, I couldn't give a rats if he got a new van or not. All power to him if he did. I am simply going off information from people at Blackburn. I'd be annoyed at losing a player of his quality too. The guy is a tank.

That's it! This site is officially on the suck.!!! I am quitting this forum. You who remain are footy tragics. End of story. Good luck to you all. Once upon a time, a player who received a bottle of wine as a trophy was pulled before the lilly-white board of the VAFA to account. Sheesh! My club played a brilliant season to get to the granny, only to be SMASHED by opponents some of whom who left straight after the game in their dressing gowns with an envelope in their mits. Enquiry? No, of course not. F grade or thereabouts. No interest. Suggestion of an amnesty smells like someone in a high profile club has some dirt and might go public. Now, we can't have that now can we. No! Nor can we have stories of ongoing sexual impropriety at HO over the years. Just not cricket. Oh well, what goes around eventually comes around.

Playing coach Smith must have done it for the love of the game down at Elsternwick Park #2 oval last year Sidewinder? People in glass houses....

He played the previous two years at Elsternwick, so, yeah, I'd say he did do it for the love of the game and club.

Unless you've got more info than the rationale that he's clearly a talented player who could have been playing in A grade, so he must have been getting paid, keep quiet.

Oh so it's your forum exclusively CC??? Go back to your knitting you old woman. Nothing personal.

Oh, your back so soon Sour Grapes.

Not my forum, just guys that like having banter and dialogue in regard to best Footy League in Vic.

If you want to come on and tell us we're all footy tragics because you guy's are poor losers in regard to a GF, then you can PO with our blessing - and that is personal

ciao

I put this question to the esteemed members of this forum.

In your opinion, when VAFA sides poach decent players from leagues where payments are legal, are the folk at VAFA HQ turning a blind eye to ensure that talent remains in the competition or are they really as daft as we make them out to be?

Which leads to my next question, in your opinion, could this amnesty campaign be all for show? Create the illusion that they are vehemently against it when really they know the league needs quality players.

Personally, I struggle to comprehend that Scholly and Co. could honestly believe that these ex AFL players and EFL, SFL, etc who could fetch upwards of $500 a game in other metropolitan leagues are choosing the VAFA because they're a fan of the leagues "No Alcohol" policy.

While I applaud the VAFA in attempting to stamp out the flaunting of these rules, the fact of the matter is that the league will suffer if we can't draw in quality footballers.

These type of players go to an Ammos club as via the network of these clubs, they find employment that pays far more than $500.00 a game. Setting up a working future for the next 30-40 years. Seems pretty smart to me both by clubs and players. Also the clean and excellent standard would be a pull. Plus for many ex AFL players it is the mateship (Rowe, Howat and Laidlaw are all down at Old Carey after stints at AFL and all went to Carey)

Is the promise of employment in exchange for playing football not in breach of the rules?

I can think of countless examples of players working in positions where if they hadn't been playing at a certain club would have their CV thrown in the shredder.

Most of the players that get jobs via the ammo network aren't being made a CEO if they have the work experience of a barista.

It's about getting a leg up in the corporate world, but if you're shit at your job, you're not going to last long regardless of how good a footy player you are....

Tell us some of these countless examples? You don't have to name names...

A successful businessman won't pay a bloke $60-80K a year just because he can play footy, but if there is a job going and there is the opportunity for a player at a club to get the gig (possibly with slightly less experience than other candidates) then why not? That isn't against the rules is it? If he's loosing the bloke money, he won't be around in the job long you can bet your money on that.

Here is a "hypothetical" situation. Do tell me if this is infringing upon any rules.

Club "A", after a mediocre season and with the departure of a key forward looks to recruit a KPP. After trawling through websites, connections etc, Club A identifies a suitable candidate in Player "X" from a regional league and initiates contact. Club "A" then offers Player "X" who has no tertiary education a job at a sponsors firm in return for his services.

Club "A" can certainly disguise the recruitment as a fortunate occurrence that a quality footballer from the county applied for a job at this particular company and over a discussion at the water cooler was invited down to training.

Will situations be looked at by the investigations or is this completely legal?

This happens plenty. I am fine with it. It's the network.

agree with chazz. there aren't too many businesses that will carry a dope just because he plays good footy.
its about using the only thing you have got over the district leagues which is connections and in many cases "the old school tie" I suppose. Hummer seems to be onto a real live case and isn't happy about losing a star??

Hummer21 - the situation you've described is clearly permissible under the current rules.

In a nutshell, they basically forbid the recruitment and selection of a player who receives money as an inducement to play, or in return for their playing services.

If the job is the inducement or the reward, it's more a matter for the employer (presumably a club sponsor or benefactor) to be satisfied they've got an employee who will stick around for the long haul!

It's a free world you knob Hummer, people can employ anyone they damn well want to, and if the VAFA didn't like it they would find their comp redundant and or ending up in court. Who is anyone to tell a paticular company CEO who they can employ?

Are you calling hummer a knob, or are you referring to him as a Knob-Hummer? Either way GetOverIT, I think you're right on the money here.

I was merely looking for an answer to the question fellas. It certainly didn't require immature slandering's from a poster who has completely missed the point or has found themselves in the fortunate position of obtaining work through an impressive football CV.

Do you feel that is slanderous to have called you a knob, or a knob-hummer? Now I am confused.
