IMO defensive mid should be about the defensive aspect of football. Viera is best at tackling, and taking possession when the ball is in dispute and then finding a pass to advantage... not being flashy... with long balls etc. DM must break down attacks and then DISH OFF so that his team may attack. class defensive mid's are not the flashiest but the most defensively aware and comitted. viera controls games

Vieira is overrated rotten imo..

Hes a very good player, made to look like a superstar at Arsenal. Doesnt play long passes often, usually does the simple thing, not as flashy as most say, and not as talented.

I don't see much Italian soccer, but am well aware of the raps on Pirlo. He must be a deadset gun.

Pirlo, legend.

I rememeber watching him against Australia at the MCG during Sydney 2000. He is my favourite Italian player there is so much to love about him. His passing is immense, his set pieces and touch is out of this world and his a genius, Gattuso said when he watches him he wonders if he is a real footballer.

Pirlo is the most important player in the AC Milan team, there is no one like him that does his job. He is more valuable then Sheva at Milan because he is the engine room, the brain, the cogs.

However, it must make a play making DM's job a tad easier having Gattuso next to you.

While he isn't a traditional DM fevola25, he has other strengths to his game which make him so dangerous and valuable to our squad. He fits in perfectly to Milan's game plan and soon enough Italy will adopt the same tactics in order to utilise Pirlo's ability.

Wrong.

Gattuso brakes down attacks, gets loose balls and does the hard work. In that sence he performs the traditional defence mid roles.

Pirlo is the sides play maker and heart, simply playing from a deep postion. Somewhat similar to Cesar Julio Baptista. His defensive game has also inproved very much.

You are wrong about Veiria also. He is not a DM. He is more a central midfeilder. Gilberto performs the wall role across the back 4 allowing the big feller to cover every inch of grass.

Pirlo is an outstanding playmaking defensive midfeilder.

Via Pirlo, Seedorf, Kaka/Rui and Gattuso Milan control the game. Arguable the worlds best at it.

When you are backed up by Stam, Maldini, Nesta, Cafu, Dida and Gattuso, you don't have to worry too much about defence.
