Basically when I get within 300m from my home (home check) it turns on my wifi and searches for my home network. Once I leave home and it is no longer connected it checks if I am within 300m otherwise it switches wi-fi completely. It then checks my calendar to see if I am working and if scheduled will check that I'm within 300m of work and disables the home check.

What events and the like do you do for that? I tried to get home, work and uni profiles going depending on what WiFi was around (ie: if it was in range of home, it'd switch on wifi, turn off mobile data etc.) Took me a while to realise that it doesn't detect networks when wifi is off.

A bit of a convoluted set up but I have a "normal" schedule which is from 6am - 11pm.
During those hours my phone will search via location (home check) every 15 minutes. If within 300m of home it will enable another task which then searches for my wifi network (home enable). If it can see my wifi network it will connect and disable the home check (home).
Once outside of that it disables "home" and "home enable" and searches every 15 minutes again for home.

For work it checks my calendar and if it sees my shift (I'm currently in a 24*7 environment otherwise would just do Mon-Fri and appropriate time) it will search for my location. If within 300m it goes to silent. If not it stays in "normal" mode.

The car dock task disables all checks for both time and location as if I am driving obviously I'm not @ home or work.

I'm a bit of a geek (bit being a massive understatement) when it comes to this type of stuff. Below is an example of my work task.

Code:
Profile: Work (44)
Priority: 8 CoolDown: 0
State: Calendar Entry
Enter: Work (18)
A1: Silent Mode [ Mode:Vibrate ]
A2: Shut Up
A3: Profile Status [ Name:Normal Set:Off ]
A4: WiFi [ Set:Off ]
A5: Profile Status [ Name:Home enable Set:Off ]
A6: Profile Status [ Name:Work Enable Set:Off ]
A7: Profile Status [ Name:Work location check Set:Off ]

Exit: Work Off (28)
A1: Ringer Volume [ Level:6 Display:Off Sound:Off ]
A2: Silent Mode [ Mode:Off ]
A3: Profile Status [ Name:Normal Set:On ]
A4: Profile Status [ Name:Home enable Set:On ]
A5: Profile Status [ Name:Work Enable Set:On ]

i've had my asus transformer now for a week and i love it. using it heaps and neglecting my laptop which now stays in my room. its great being able to remote desktop from my tablet :D gaming is nice on it, playing pinball (which i suck at >_< ) overall very impressed with it

HTC Desire HD for $474 good or not?
is good!
But an HTC Desire Z for $330 is better.

I actually own an iphone 4 and the Desire Z.
I love the Desire Z more but HTC battery life sux.

But for anyone looking at buying outright phones.. the Desire Z is unbelievable value right now.
Comes with a physical QWERTY as well as touch type.
A little bit heavy.. but great phone!

Been looking at some phones and I think I am set on the HTC Desire S.
$412 with 3yr warranty.
I don't know that much about phones anymore so just wondering if anyone thinks that is a bad choice? Would appreciate your opinion.

I have the HTC Desire and it is a great phone

Currently Samsung Galaxy SII is about the best android phone, but with a few makers about to release updated spec phones, it will be to and fro which maker will be ahead...

Thanks for the reply. I have now switched my preference (for the 5th time:eek:) to the Samsung Galaxy S. It seems better than the Desire S. Do people think it will come down further in price with the S2 out or has it already come down?
Anyone recommend an alternative?

3.0 tablets are the asus transformer
acer iconia
motorola xoom
galaxy tab 10 should be out soon as well.

i have the transformer and i'm very happy with it, its expensive over here, but i think there has been a price cut for them. has the added bonus of extra battery life if you get the keyboard.

This might be a stupid question but where would I find the 2.2.1 update for Samsung Galaxy S?
Also, I read that Gingerbread will be released by service providers. I am with TPG who don't release anything. When/if Gingerbread comes out for Galaxy S will I be able to just get it through Kies?

You might be with TPG but surely you didn't buy the phone from TPG?

2.3.4 is already available if you want it. Otherwise you should just be able to update Kies first and then connect your phone and get 2.2.1

Got the Motorola Defy from Telstra on a $49 plan 5 months ago, not as powerful as other phones but does and has everything and is Life proof eg water/dust/knock proof. I was reasonably happy with it, and then last week updated it to 2.2.... now its like a new phone its quicker and battery lasts a lot longer very happy with it now:)

Need your help guys. I need to get a new phone for mum. She has arthritis and glasses, so we need a big qwerty keyboard and a big enough screen. Wouldn't want to spend more than $500, buying outright. Then some cheap prepaid that is mainly data based, so we can make free calls/text to each other via apps (I read Viber will soon be on android).
Thanks guys.

if you're willing to import, i'd go for the HTC desire z or the motorola milestone (one or two, if within budget) those phones have slide out keyboards and big screens. i dont think the cha cha is good since its like an e71, keyboard isnt the biggest and the screen isnt big either

:thumbsu: The Z was my first choice, wanted to get other opinions. 3.7" screen, big flip out key board...that might be the best one.
