Well Vlad that went well didn't it.

Came out defending the concept and how the series needed to be reinvigorated and that he was confident that playing a 100% indigenous side would do the trick.

Demetriou and the AFL have had a 2013 they would rather forget, not much has gone right for them at all.

Last nights result and effort for a national side was simply not good enough. It was down right embarrassing.

Epic failure again Vlad.

Agree it was a dismal effort from the All Stars, but blaming AD is way off base, i thought the concept was good, however AD was not coaching, selector, trainer or motivator, and hardly responsible for players pulling out.

Even putting aside qualms about race-based selection as a concept, it clearly contributed to the issues on this occasion, by limiting the possible pool of players to select from to the point where players who've never even played in the AFL are representing their country in a joint venture sport, the Australian side of which is administrated by the AFL. Every year, there will be issues with players pulling out, for reasonable or questionable reasons - how, then, does it make sense to limit the pool of players you are allowed to select from? The GAA's initial concerns about the strength of the team were seemingly very much well-founded.

The stupidity of the whole concept cannot be overstated. It's simply ridiculous. Play with our footy and we'd destroy them. Big deal.

I don't think the indigenous selection has much to do with it. In fact in a lot of ways it's better - at least the players want to be out there.

People love their footy so obviously there's a novelty factor at first - that wore off a long time ago.

Those Irish.
They gave the tourists Larry Dooley. :)
The AFL has propped this thing up for a while, even chasing the GAA to continue this broken game.
The GAA game is far superior to the hybrid rubbish we are playing with them, as is the AFL game.

The crowd last night was down from other years, when they had 60 thousand and must be seen as a worry with only 28 thousand through the gates.

Scrap it.

O'oughlin and many players were way out of their ability.
The AFL must stop this rubbish

the headline on the AFL site reads
Aussies suffer humiliating defeat at hands of the Irish
http://www.afl.com.au/news/2013-10-27/ireland-demolishes-australia
'
"AUSTRALIA has suffered a record 79-point humiliation in a fiery second Test against Ireland at Croke Park, with the home team sealing an emphatic 2-0 International Rules Series victory."

IMO
They didnt represent Australia they represented the Aboriginals of Australia

The idea was to have he best players from Australia vs Ireland. Not an indigenous side. It was clear that a side limited to this would not preform as well. If Vald was what made that idea, poor concept is warranted.

Aussie rules players playing on a rectangle pitch
With a round ball
Less players
Rules on when and how you can pick up the ball
Shepherdings illegal
Bumping is illegal
Tackling is just about illegal

Face it, it's closer to Gaelic football then footy.

08 changes marked the death kneel of the series.

Lets just get rid of it because it is just embarrassing us to play the round ball game....

Just goes to show how easy our game is to play at an "elite level" when we have all thee converts from other sports make successes out of it, yet we send over "elite level athletes" who think they can master the round ball with ease and they get annihilated by "part timers".

Racist statement.

For most of the past hundred years, Australians have sent racially exclusive teams. Bradman played for a race-based team.

Now when its done to affirm a group of Australians who've been excluded and marginalied, you all piss and moan?

Yep looks about times to give it the last rites. I can understand the thinking behind the concept (the indigenous players it was thought would had have more of an incentive to make themselves available and may be more motivated), but in the end it was probably a combination of lack of experience in playing the game, physically not having big enough bodies, and STILL players not been committed to the series, that made it a train wreck.
