Wallace moves on from draw

RICHMOND coach Terry Wallace has defended his rotational policy after the draw with the Western Bulldogs.
Key players Brett Deledio and Nathan Foley spent time on the bench towards the end of the tight game but Wallace said it was just part of the game.
“The theory behind it is you rotate your players to try and keep freshness into the game for the entire match,” Wallace said.
“If they are on the bench that means they’ve done seven or eight minutes in the midfield. You’ve got to give them a rest, that is the nature of the competition at the moment.”
Wallace said he would spend some time working out what went wrong but would quickly move to planning for this week’s match against Hawthorn.
“We were 19 points in front with three and a half minutes to play - you should be able to hold on from there, we just made some fundamental errors, got the ball in the wrong areas of the ground and made mistakes,” he said.
“We’ll go through those mistakes, the upside for us is we played good footy, the downside is we cost ourselves two points.”
Wallace also said the Tigers were happy with the draw, despite several close calls that could have changed the result.
“I heard somewhere we were seething about the situation. That couldn’t be further from the truth, it’s all part and parcel of the game,” he said.
“We had Richo with his mark, was it behind or in front of the post? They all make for a bit of good banter and what people love about the game.”
Wallace said Joel Bowden would be unlikely to return this week after performing well in Coburg’s loss to Port Melbourne in the VFL, while Trent Cotchin and Mark Coughlan would not be considered for the time being.
“The VFL side lost badly in a game they were expected to win and the AFL side performed very well. I don’t think we’ll be making a lot of changes to the structure of the side,” he said.

Wallace sending out the signals that he will stick by the starting 22 while they keep performing. Seems Terry not pleased with the Coburg result with the number of senior guys now trotting around in the magoos.
