A 17yo Field umpire was hit from behind after a game in the Ingle Farm v Modbury u11`s game in the NEMJFA on Sunday morning.
The lads Father was on the radio just then saying that his lad was approached after the game by a member of the Ingle Farm coaching staff, turned his back & walked off after a vocal altercation & was then hit with a roundhouse from behind.

My Son`s team played the Farmers in the 11`s only last month, & although the coach was exitable, he was`nt abusive in any way.
This`ll be interesting, everyone`s opinion when this got out was that it was odds on the club was a little further East.

ARGHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!

Thugs like this at kids games - and a coach? Hey, does the NEMJFA have compulsory coaching accreditation? If so, then this guy needs it removed pronto. If not, then they'd better get cracking and do it.

I hope the league get behind the umpire. He's young enough to give it away as a result of this - and we need him to stand up and get on with the job. But we also need the league to stand up alongside him, support him 100 percent - and metaphorically flip the bird at this poor excuse for a human being.

I dont think they do have to have accreditation Timelord, could be wrong, can find out. Strangely no mention of it on the TV news or the paper this morning.

The NEMJFA is probably trying to keep it quiet. Not the first time that's happened. Look forward to hear about whether or not they use the accreditation scheme.

Heard on 5AA that he was sacked for life from the club.

Life as in he can never hold a position at the club again.

What an a**hole.

Should be banned from every club.
We soccer coaches need accreditation for legal reasons.
I'm sure footy would be the same otherwise you could sue the @rse of anyone these days.

To have an umpire getting hurt deliberately like that is a disgrace. The guy who did it should be banned for life.

Just came out, life ban from coaching & officiating from any association under the AFL banner (eg anywhere)
Never happened before in our association from 1953, 15yo umpire was`nt hurt.
5aa are chasing up the coach to get his side of the story.
Lad who goes to my sons school plays for the farmers u11`s & said the umpiring was hopeless, but still, is`nt that what the umpire written reports are for ?
I`m catching up with a senior coach from the farmers tomorrow, he`s going to a meeting tonight & is gunna fill me in on the ducks guts of it all.

The accreditation scheme is there, Bulldog. It's just that not everyone is using it yet - which is a worry, and not just for the reasons you are talkiing about.

I look forward to hearing more from Hollypig. Good decision by the league to ban him for life from everything officially footy. It doesn't matter if the umpire IS hopeless. You DON'T bash him for it. As Hollypig said, you write a report on it - constructively of course - and send it to the league for the umpire's advisor to deal with. If it was me as the advisor, I would be pencilling the kid in for observation next week.

The coach in question has certainly been banned for life, from what I gather he`s an emotional bloke who`s been known to actually cry after a narrow loss. He never punched the lad , but gave him a backhander which clipped him in the mouth & his braces cut his lip.
The coach may have been lucky as it was one of the few times the umps Father (a policeman) did`nt go with him. I know that I`ve let rip with a few 'your joking' blasts at him a few times, he is learning & can be inconsistant, but at the end of a game I always thank the umpire & you do realise how young some of these guys are, & at least they are out there doing their best.
These guys are neutral (exept for one standout old bloke who barracks for his team during games) & I`ve seen a lot worse decisions from goal umpires (parents) over the years.
Even though what this guy did was unforgivable, he still has three sons playing for the club, did have the guts to front up at the tribunal, & is shattered at what was a silly emotional moment.
Of course, without saying, he has apoligised.

WHAT???!!!

That's NOT on! If I were the NEMJFA clubs I'd complain about that! Umpires should NEVER abrrack during a match! That's why I won't umpire in the Eastern FL, Diamond Valley FL or Essendon District FL - because I'd barrack for Donvale (EFL) and against North Heidelberg and Heidelberg (DVFL) and Keilor and Airport West (EDFL). It's not right - and you NEVER do it!

Gets better, before the game he was putting on his boots, amongst the other team & remarked, 'we should have this mob beaten by half time'. Our three best players were off by half time, all with head injuries, all committed by two players flinging their elbows around, without ever touching or going for the pill. Umpire was not to be seen. It got a touch personal when my son was punched in the back of the neck,in front of the umpire, grounded, jumped up & throttled this bloke, only to be reported, (later withdrawn).
The team manager came over & explained that the two lads were having trouble at home & were going to be told not to play the man in the second half. I see it as that their coached to play in this manner, & voiced my opinion to their manager, with a few other choice opinions about their club, umpire, parents & anything more I could get out before he scuttled away.
Made a few calls to find out that this was happening on a regular occourance. Luckily I do buisness with the ex pres of the ammy`s, he did a bit of behind the scenes work & voila, umpire has`nt been seen since. The team this year actually play the ball, & a new coaching staff is in place.
When I heard on the radio that an umpy had been attacked I was sure, as was everybody else I talked to, that this club would have been the one.
They seem to play for awfully big sheep stations in the junior ranks at football clubs in the North Eastern suburbs of Adelaide.

Well done, Hollypig! That was good work! Brings out the good people, and the dead wood disappears - as they damn well should!

And any GOOD coach does NOT make excuses like passing the buck like that! If it was true and I was the coach I wouldn't even allow the kids to play until they'd sorted themselves out or had been sorted out by whoever was responsible for them.

Pete i asume you know the identity of the father of the umpire (give you a hint if you don't)

Played for us in the early to late 80s

Tall blonde fella played only a few league games

Played plenty of reserves games mostly at full forward

Sister in the cheersquad (our version of the dizzes back them )

see how you go with those clues

Seems it's becoming a habit. VAFA senior umpires have been subjected to this from one particular club this season. I won't name the club, but, I am sure the fact that this club has been the subject of 5 investigations and the assault of 3 umpires will almost ensure the club is kicked out at season's end.

Give a hint who the club is or better name the club. Timelord, Mobbs, timharvey, would you know of this??

Actually, Pazza, I don't. If it's who I THINK it is I haven't had them this year. Richo might have a better idea because he would have played against them.
