the dad was arrested now
Surely a person who has been questioned by the FBI has more reason to need a rifle to protect themselves under the 2nd amendment? Isn't that how it's supposed to work?

How do pro-gun people support the arrest of a 14yo who just wanted to protect himself from an oppressive Government trying to deny him his right to bear arms?

The father of Apalachee High School mass shooting suspect Colt Gray told investigators this week he had purchased the gun used in the killings as a holiday present for his son in December 2023, according to two law enforcement sources with direct knowledge of the investigation.

usa is f....., but we know that already
Because nothing says peace on earth like a gun. And these are the same people who get wound up over drag queens.

Most Americans would sooner the kids keep getting killed that give up their guns

From memory aren’t ‘most’ Americans in favour of better gun control? Just between the NRA’s outsized influence and their shitty electoral system it doesn’t actually matter what the majority want?

Feels like the parents are the new video games or death metal. Anything but address the actual problem.
As antigun legislation never gets thru or gets thrown out by scotus . Maybe charging the parents for there kids crimes may force some parents to lock up the guns etc or not buy guns as in this case

It's just pretending to do something about the problem.

What if their kid obtains the gun independent of their parents knowledge?

this depends how you are defining the problem. the problem of american society's access to firearms is multifaceted with many effects. part of that is clearly children gaining access to firearms. and while pointing the finger at parents is not going to solve the whole problem, it's attempting to address a small part of that, the safe storage that can cause some of these incidents. i don't think it's the ideal solution either, but it's clearly a more influential cause of shootings than wishy washy concepts like the effects of video games or music.

question marks over how of course. charging the parents feeds their industrial prison machine, a whole other problem.
and it's definitely fraught. i wonder what would happen if children gained access to firearms that weren't their parents.
but the safe storage of firearms is not a new law in most places. and if this is something that decreases shootings in america, it's something they should enforce.

JD Vance telling Americans today that 'School shootings are just a fact of life'.

You could frame the above shot as a parody from the Onion but its even more blatantly absurd because its real.
While being surrounded by bullet proof glass, a safety measure they only added after Trump was shot at.
