In other comedy news....

Paul Little at the EFC season launch has said that he wants Essendon to become the most respected sporting Club in the country. I kid you not:D

Bit like Mark Neeld's infamous "Melbounre will be the most feared team to play against" - Wonder who gave him that line...

No-one. That's not what he said.

So I was paraphrasing, what he actually said was, "I simply want to coach the team that is the hardest to play against in the AFL," he said. "That means all over the ground we're going to be the hardest to play against. A laughable fail comment much as I expect Little's will be.

To be fair, he could have meant "most confusing to play against". They confuse me. When Melbourne start passing the ball to invisible team members, I get seriously confused...

A fact that wasn't lost on any Richmond supporters I can assure you.
Depends if the players get off and Hird keeps his job. Then technically Dank would be able to be hired again and this shit storm will start again

Sorry miss read that, but still a situation that could happen

They beginning of trying to make Essendon relevant again. Melbourne just doing what the AFL tell them

That would be it. Viva la top ups!

You do realise Essendon are so bad even Melbourne trying lose nearly wasn't good enough. They had to kick the ball too them just so they didn't actually win. AFL need to do something magical to keep these players from suspension or too bad for their equalization plans.

Okay okay. You've had lots of fun. Since its NAB I keep just repeating practise match practise match practise match practise match.

If anything, the 30 minutes I saw of Melbourne v Freo in the first NAB challenge looked totally worse. It was an all in kick the ball randomly off the field fest. Freo put up an impressive fight to lose first, but they were no competition for the rehearsed lunacy they faced on a quality afternoon all round.

So the verdict comes through on March 31. What happens then?

If its a 'not guilty' can WADA/ASADA come over the top?

If its 'guilty' can Essendon appeal? What then of the provisional suspensions?

Yes, No and No.

Yes, ASADA / WADA can appeal if they are unhappy with the decision or sanctions applied.

Yes, the players can appeal but Essendon cannot. This is because its the players vs ASADA. Technically, the club has no direct involvement. Yeah, yeah they are actually in it ip to their ears but only the players are on trial.

No, there won't be any more provisional suspensions. If sanctioned, the suspensions become definite suspensions and if cleared, there are no suspensions. This will not change during any appeals but may change as a result of any appeal.

Says Mark Stevens. Theatrically tweets that's the time "the hammer comes down" - not sure if he means a gavel, or is presuming an outcome, or is just choosing his words poorly.

What the hell are we fighting for?
Just surrender and it won't hurt at all
You just got time to say your prayers
While you're waiting for the Hammer to Fall!!!!

A song so ghey, even blackcat blushed. :D

Mark Neeld's first year 4 wins - 18 losses = Satan
Paul Roos' first year 4 wins - 18 losses = God

Genuine question for the ASADA-code literate on here:
If players are found not guilty (or with very small penalty), and ASADA/WADA appeal, what happens to suspensions in case of a successful appeal?
Eg the players didn't participate in NAB cup because it would reset suspension period, is the same true in case of appeal? (so for example, if the CAS finds 2 years would be appropriate on appeal, do the 2 years then start from date of appeals verdict again?)

The period of provisional suspension can be deducted from any penalty, no matter when it comes. If they start playing again, but there's a successful appeal, penalties would be minus the time they'd served under the provisional suspension.

The Contador case is a good precedent: provisionally suspended, cleared by the Spanish anti-doping agency, started racing again, CAS appeal was successful, penalty period was reduced by the 5+ months he was initially provisionally suspended.

The only grey area for me is that if there's a successful appeal to CAS, from what date would new penalties start. I can't see/find anything specific. For example, is it from when the appeal process starts, when the hearing starts, when the ruling is announced... not sure. Anyone?

That will depend on CAS if WADA appeal. The AFL appeals board would be too hard to pick considering their track record but as far as CAS is concerned, I think they would recognise time served if the players were later found guilty. ie They've done roughly 6 months from when the INs were issued, so if they were later found to have breached the code then they would get say 2 years less the 6 months served. The time may vary with any applied discounts but the situation would basically be the same.
