Hes using 'bottoming out' and "Hawthorn" a hell of a lot but he is just wrong,

Last week reported saying hawks bottomed out in 2000-01 whilre they were 'on top'

Perhaps he was too pissed at the time to rememeber they cheated to beat us in the 2001 prelim.

We just recruited better in 2001 (traded croad too)

we had a couple of years 'down' in 04-05 but its mainly the 2001 crop which has taken us up the ladder

On the other hand carlton and richmond have raffled the spoon for 5 years so look to your 'big 4' club Mr Jackson

PJ is a joke. If there is such a thing as bottoming out, the Bombers have at the end of the year, been down the bottom for as long as Hawthorn were. No wonder he thinks they will make the eight next year.

Also loved his comment that in the hawthorn-Essendon match, hawthorn averaged 30 games more experience than Essendon. Making it up as he goes along.

So you would be this good without Franklin and Roughead?

The Hawks supporters want to pot the man because he got a couple of stats wrong regarding their precious team.

You are rig but he does seem to have an obsession with Hawthorn.

Buddy and roughy are important but the core of the team came from 2001.

He would know that the core of the 99-01 essendon team was not recruited 3 years earlier - more like 6.

And the comparison head to head 2 weeks ago was just wrong.

Also getting in a knot over new teams coming in is a bit rich. If as PJ is implyinf you have to take your turn then about 10 existing clubs deserve their 'turn' befote essendon,

Come back in 2020 bomber fans

Add Lewis, Taylor, Birchall, Ellis, Guerra, and Gilham to Franklin and Roughead and you get a better idea of the effect of the 04-05 drafts to Hawthorns success this year.

You're right that alot of the foundations were built in 2001 and earlier, but I think you are selling the 04-05 draftees short in terms of impact.

You've got to make the most of your chances, whether they are early picks or not. From that list Taylor, Gilham, McGlynn and Guerra were either Rookie, late picks or pre-season(guerra)

We've also had a few duds or misses, Harry Miller, Bo Nixon, Matthew Little, JOsh Thurgood, and some injuries Dowler, Muston, & Bailey

We've done very well out of our Rookie picks and also have been very lucky with trading, ie we've traded out players when they still had value(Thommo & Hay), trading Sewell to Melbourne for Ferguson fell through in the death(thank god)

Let me tell you that it hurts to trade away players that the fans love like Croad, Thommo, Harford etc but sometimes there's a light at the end of the tunnel, seeing the young players develop. We also got lucky in that Croady returned, and we still got to keep what we traded him for Hodge & Mitchell.
