and seeing as I pretty much count punk/emo/hardcore as one big genre nowadays,

I do too, can't be stuffed distinguishing.

Green Day is good.
Jimmy Eat World is great.

Saves The Day I think has a new album out or one coming out soon.

Bodyjar and Millencolin are my favourite bands in the genre.

I always wanted to hear All or Nothing without the stupid "fuzzy" sound as well.

Damn straight...Im pretty anxious to see what AM!s next album will be like. In my heart I know they will never return to their roots with that hint of folk and rawness that made their earlier work so good, but id at least like to see them get more creative with their style...Last album was FAR too personal. Ok, a song here or there to the fans who accused them of selling out, but not 75% of an album! Only songs I really liked off their last were Joy, and Violence...More punk bands need to take a leaf out of NOFX's book. They've been around for so long, yet continue to provide us with good music.

Next is the Live album out in August which I'm interested in. (On Fat)

But it will be interesting to see how they adapt after joining Sire, hopefully there are no more songs on record companies and I also wonder if they will ever come back to Tassie.:(

PS: Not a big NOFX fan.

They are good yes, but nothing like they used to be. They have pretty much worked out what will sell and keep putting out the same formula. They ain't going to change much.

They havent changed for a long time, and wont change from here on in. They will never get back to their best, but their latest album was a pretty good listen. For a band thats beena round for so long, thats a good effort. NOFX are an aquirred taste I will admit, and I only listen to them occasionally when im in 'that' mood, but they deserve respect nonetheless. Pheonix, AM! have been to Tassie twice already, they'll be back for more :p That is if they dont change, which I guess is what you're worried about.

Prefer older stuff like

Sham 69
Sex Pistols
Stiff Little Fingers
Undertones

But new stuff i like includes

Dropkick Murphy's
Rancid
Transplants

plenty of others that i would almost class as punk but there are so many genres these days .. half the time i dont know or care whats what

Not them, Sire will have quite the say on where they tour and how often does a International band on a major label come to Tassie? Not often.

They'll still want to come even though the stiffs stopped The Venue being available after the AM! gig ealier in the year for "noise problems" hopefully.

I was talking to Warren before the show and he loves Tassie so hopefully they will be back and Sire will back them on doing it.

How about No Fun At All?? One of my all time favourites!

Millencolin, Pennywise, Dropkick Murphy's, Bodyjar, Strungout, 59 X the Pain all in my collections...

Did anyone go to the Loudmouth concert at Memorial Drive a few years ago???

Strungout, Unwritten Law, One Dollar Short, Dropkick Murphy's, Bodyjar and Sum 41 made for a very memorable night!!!

I can't get enough of Rise Aginst's new cd... but thats as far as punk and I go.
I don't really know what genre I listen to.
I guess whatever afi's "Black Sails In The Sunset" and "Art of Drowning" fit into. Good times.

buzzcox please.

half the so called punk bands that have been mentioned are pale imitations of these guys.

and props to the guys who nominated stiff little fingers, the clash, the ramones, sex pistols, black flag and descendents.

im also going to mention the new york dolls, wanye county and the electric chairs, the damned, x ray spex, the saints and DK (oops they already got mentioned)

Agreed. The genre has expanded, but I still have my own opinion on what punk is. Rise Against dont fit into the categeory thank you very much. Punk bands I like:

Rancid
NOFX
Against Me!
Sex Pistols
The Clash
Dropkick Murphys

... And many more.

Agreed....

I was into Punk/New wave in the late 70's. No middle aged jokes please:D.

I was into the following in no particular order.
The Saints (with Ed Kuepper).
The Stranglers pre Black And White.
XTC. Though turned very Beatles pop like later in life.
Radio Birdman.
The Leftovers. Obscure hardcore Brisbane band.
The Members. If any of you can get "At The Chelsea Nightclub" do. Is a hidden gem. A raw Punk with dub undertones.
Ian Drury And the Blockheads.

Good stuff:thumbsu:

well it has to be old school really - most new bands are a pale imitation of what the old ones were.

I got into punk in the late 70s and to be honest i never grew out of it (yeah yeah i know i am sad!!!)

my faves were

Pistols
Buzzcocks
clash
jam
generation x
skids
anti nowhere league (still one of the best)
anglelic upstarts
sham 69
and a hell of a lot more.

If i listen to any of the so called new bands i listen to

Goldfinger
less than jake
offspring
pocket rocket (local sa band)

old punk

Sex Pistols
The Clash
Buzzcocks
The Jam
The Adverts
Boomtown Rats ( more new wave)
Slaughter and the Dogs
Johnny Thunders and the Heartbreakers
ramones
Generation X
The Saints
Chelsea
Vibrators
UK Subs

New Punk
None

We need change and we need it fast
before rocks part of the past
cos lately it all sounds the same to me ...woooooh

RIP Joey
