Hey guys!
I'm George and I love the AFL draft and creating and posting mock drafts.
I know that you guys love them too, so I thought that I'd share mine and get some opinions!
This year's draft is pretty open, there isn't a definite #1 pick!
What are your thoughts? I hope I've got the bids right;

#1, Essendon Bombers - Hugh McCluggage, MID

#3, Gold Coast Suns - Jack Bowes, MID (GC Academy) (bid by Brisbane) (Suns give up 6)
#4, Brisbane Lions (from Fremantle via GWS) - Will Brodie, MID
#5, Gold Coast Suns - Ben Ainsworth, UTL
#6, Carlton Blues - Tim English, RCK
#7, Fremantle Dockers (from Collingwood via GWS) - Sam Petrovski-Seton, UTL
#8, Gold Coast Suns (from Melbourne) - Tim Taranto, UTL
#9, GWS Giants - Will Setterfield, MID (GWS Academy) (bid by Sydney) (Giants give up 15 and 45)
#10, Sydney Swans (from Port Adelaide) - Oliver Florent, UTL
#11, Gold Coast Suns (from St Kilda via Hawthorn) - Griffin Logue, DEF
#12, North Melbourne Kangaroos - Daniel Venables, UTL
#13, West Coast Eagles - Shai Bolton, MID
#14, Adelaide Crows - Jy Simpkin, UTL
#15, Port Adelaide Power (from Hawthorn via Sydney) - Todd Marshall, FWD
#16, GWS Giants - Jack Scrimshaw, DEF
#17, GWS Giants - Harry Perryman, MID (GWS Academy) (bid by Brisbane) (Giants give up 37 and 39)
#18, Brisbane Lions (from Geelong, via Carlton and GWS) - Cedric Cox, DEF
#19, Port Adelaide Power (from Sydney) - Sam Powell-Pepper, MID
#20, Western Bulldogs - Jarrod Berry, UTL
#21, Gold Coast Suns - Brad Scheer, MID (GC Academy) (bid by Sydney) (Suns give up 73 and go into a points deficit in 2017)
#22, Sydney Swans (from Brisbane via Port Adelaide; received by Brisbane as a priority pick) - Josh Battle, FWD

If you have any questions, let me know and I'll respond.
Thanks

Why do you see Tim English going at 5 to Carlton?
They already have Kreuzer, Phillips and Casbolt who can play through the rucks and should almost certainly take a midfielder.

Thanks for the question!
I think that English will go to Carlton and start off as a ruckman, but over time, many people think he can grow into a key defender role.

He has midfielder skills (remember, he was a mid just 2 years ago), is 6'8" so he can tap very well, is a smart player, and is gonna be groomed to be a key defender.
Carlton are a team that can use help anywhere, and to get one of those needs filled would be a good thing; to get them all in one player is awesome.

I know that it probably won't happen but just thought that I'd explain my reasoning anyways!

Why would Carlton want another Key defender with Plowman Marchbank Rowe Jaksch Weitering lol?... If I'm Carlton's manager I'd not waste a pick as valuable as 5 on ANYONE who isn't a key forward or a midfielder.

on the lions-
can't see us taking Brodie over Ainsworth.
It's interesting you've posted that. I actually think it makes a lot of sense. I agree you need an Ainsworth type in the forward line but you also need genuine inside mids and Brodie is a ripper.
I think Brisbane will likely pick Ainsworth, particularly now how he's publicly came out and said 'draft me' but I think it's harder to find (draft) a player like Brodie than a player like Ainsworth.

Thanks for your PD AT.

Would love to read the reasons why clubs pick a player if you get a chance.

Just wondering where you see Will Hayward going?

I reckon English and Battle slide, English out of the first round, Battle out of the second round. Besides Freo at 7 I don't see a club willing to pick a ruck in a mids draft and I still think 7 is too high for Freo.
Battle's combine testing was rubbish and he's undersized, I think he's a little over rated because of little KPF competition this year.

i like Brodie but i feel an x-factor/game changer type elite talent like Ainsworth is less likely to be available later in the draft, on the other hand you can usually find good inside mids later eg. W.Drew, D.Clarke, J.Scharenberg and Z.Fisher all could be possible options for us at 21/22 if we decide to go the inside mid option.

i concede that Brodie is a level above those other inside options i have mentioned.

ideal draft for me would be Ainsworth, Berry, Simpkin and Florent (probably wont be still there at 21/22) if that is the case one of Witherden/Clarke/Venables/Powell-Pepper/Bolton would be great as well.

I actually think it is harder to find a player like Ainsworth as he is an x-factor type who can kick 4 goals in 6 minutes or so as he has done previously. Whereas Brodie is an inside mid and you can pick players like that later in the draft ala Cripps and Kennedy (Syd) to name a few.

Edit: oops, should probably ready the next few posts before writing haha

I'd be pretty disappointed if Carlton selected English tbf. Ruck isn't our no.1 need and there are better players ahead of him. If the top 5 go similar to that we'd pick either Taranto or SPS I'd imagine.

And by the way Prochard123
Kreuzer will probably leave soon, Casboult is only a part-time ruck option (more of a forward), and anybody who thinks Phillips can be a starting AFL ruckman is stupid
blues wont waste pick 5 on english. granted he is a good kid however much better prospects available. to much risk with him in that he needs to transition into a mans body. not guaranteed he will and if he does increase his body weight then he is likely to lose something the positives he currently has. english has many have predicted could be a slider. with bb in charge Carlton i suspect will use a dawks model and take ruckmen as role type players until they can pick up one cheap or they develop one. Phillips has plenty of upside and could easily develop into a leading ruckman because these type of players improve dramatically with time and opportunity.

for mine i think we will bid on setterfield and then pick one of either SPS or taranto. our second pick will be the best pure inside mid however this may change if a genuine kpf is available.

totally agree re ainsworth plus he wants to play with u blokes. its been reported that brodie is a go home so i view of recent player retention issues i doubt u would want the risk.

Brodie looks like being the slider of the draft hearing Carlton like SPS
agree. whilst he is a good kid for us its about midfield balance when u have crippa there. either sps or taranto provide inside/outside skills plus they can kick goals. blues appointing IAW in a player development/transition could be a real indicator that we will select SPS.
