22 April at Wheelers Hill

CGS def. MGS by 5 goals

Best: CGS: Zeibell, Gilchrist, Sundberg, Yaman, Spanos, Penberthy.
Multiple Goals: CGS: Yaman 5, Spanos 3

Sandilands and Sengstock didn't play due to TAC Cup matches for Oakleigh and Sandringham respectively.

Wesley vs. Xavier
at Xavier College

XC 93 def. WC 83

Both teams were missing some key players because of TAC clashes. Wesley opened very sharply and led for a lot of the day but could not find someone up forward in the last quarter and were overrun in the wet.

souths...tilly really kicked 5, made it look easy, caulfield will be very strong this year, some very good new players, cant wait for season opener

Scotch beat Geelong Grammer by about 9 or 10 goals. Was an even first half but Scotch kicked away in the second

Well MGS came out in the first term and kicked 4.3 (27) to 0.4 (4) and Caulfield looking in real trouble, then Melbourne's forward penetration just died in the arse and Caulfield capitalised in the second and third quarters and they just ran away with it.

Zeibell was extremely good across half back.

XC 93 def. WC 83

Nice one Wesley. You just got beaten by Xavier 2nds!!

Let's check exactly who was missing shall we?

Wesley : Sands (TAC) Croft (TAC)
Xavier : Wynne (TAC), Kennedy (TAC), Sanfillipo (TAC), Noonan (TAC)

Plus, XC rested the following

Yr 12
Sweeney (Full-forward)
Santilli (Other Full-forward)
Agius (Forward pocket)

Yr 11
Lees (Rover)
Colluccio (Tall back)

IMO - Xavier did not play their top 7. Wesley were without their top 2.
Full sides = Massive win to Xavier. (Please, don't even try to argue it)

Apparently all (except Colluccio) should be playing against Geelong College in Round 2 (Xavs have a bye in Rnd 1).

So what? Just because they did have players out you cant take away the fact Wesley put in a fair effort. Xavier will probably be a good side, but not as good as you have made them out to be this whole pre season. They were also without Chris Tsadarkis, who is at Calder Cannons who played on the weekend also. Having said this, St. Kevins beat Carey by 10 Goals, without 7 of there most important players. Newman, Tamaroudis, McCarthy(TAC) and Castricum, which is the on ball brigade, werent playing, along with Kennedy(TAC), Purcell and Sullivan, played firsts in year 10, but still managed to beat Carey by such a margin.

Well said. Funny how kids get so defensive over a praccy match.

Sands played Davo!

Yes Sands did play and played well.

Haha Davo#5 if only you could pull your head out of the arses of the Xavier boys you might be able to see that they are not the superteam you have made them out to be. Hey, I'll be the first to admit that with full teams playing, Wesley will most likely not have the players to beat them, but I was disappointed to see Xavier so far below what I expected having read what you have written over the preseason.

Players you have mentioned with supposed star quality really didn't show when the pressure was on. They looked rattled. Xavier's full back was ripped apart by Chaplin Birch in the first quarter, while our midfield really went toe-to-toe with Xavier's for a lot of the game. You have gone on about Xavier's infinite depth...well I really couldn't see any evidence of that.

On our day, I think we have the potential to take it up to the "heavyweights" of the APS this season.

(You also missed in your list of players out Chris Tsardakis, U16 Vic Metro player last year who was playing for Calder on the weekend.)

yeah you're right, just watched the game video, and he had 4 up until 3 qtr time. we didnt have enough tape for the last term but i would assume he kicked one there....

That's because they were watching it from the sidelines spanner!
And Xavier's full back will not be Pat Ellis so settle down tiger.

Let's speak about depth...

Your best side just got beaten by a 1/2 strength XC team and they aren't even the top school in the comp. Keep spending that money Wesley. Purple! Disgraceful uniform.

You are being kind to MGS. They were thrashed. Zeibell played a sensational game. I doubt other teams will let him roam unmanned like MGS. Caulfield should challenge the big 3 HC SC and XC. MGS lower half this year

Just watched the game again and Zeibell looked a hell of a lot like Goddard the way he was playing, the general in defence looked very much at home.
