So?

We're talking about sacked coaches. Blokes like Brett Ratten who have done a lot probably won't get a gig because it's rare to see a sacked coach get a senior coach gig again.

They land other gigs is what im saying just not head coach

Ratten plays a big part of hawthorn for instance

Is it your view that a premiership is be the be all & end all indicator of success? As for OK at 50, over it at 55 demarcartion  ..

If a coach takes your side to the finals 10 years in a row BUT doesnt win a premiership is that a fail?

There's a big difference between being 50 and 55, and even more so between 55 and 60.

You'll see where I said it's not a hard and fast rule, and if you look at Mr Magic's post instead of rolling your eyes like a smart arse, you'll also see there are some more than valid reasons why this is the case.

As for what constitutes success, why ask me? I'm not the one hiring the coach. I think you'll find though that ultimately, measurement of success in this league starts and finishes with flags. You might want to roll your eyes at that too, but I think you'll find if you put a poll up that the clear majority here would say exactly that.

To use your example in this case, I don't think any coach in this league would survive ten years in a row without at least one grand final appearance.

I see where you are coming from/where you are going to !!

I don't think Malty is a bad coach. He isn't used to having a poorly compiled list.

Same with Leppa. If he had Clarkson's or Longmire's squads, his gameplan would actually work.

The people involved in list management have the most to answer for. Not the coaches fault that a quality forward hasn't been around since Fevola.

Have had a superficial look at this question in the past. There is some evidence to suggest coaches peak in their late 40's/early 50's.
