really starting to like the look of our youth going forward, all these players 24 or under. finally good times might be coming.

B. D.Gardner S.Skinner H.Andrews

HB. A.Witherden D.McStay T.Cutler

C. N.Robertson B.Keays J.Berry

HF. L.Taylor E.Hipwood C.Cox

F. M.Close J.Schache R.William

R. A.Smith H.McCluggage R.Matheison

INT. J.Allison S.Mayes M.Paparone L.Dawson

depth. C.Lyons, C.Hanley, M.Hammellman, J.Clayton, R.Lester, J.Frost, J.Walker, J.Jansen.

2 first round picks already for the next draft, with a bit of luck we might get both of them in before Connor Ballenden is bid on. will be cheering port on all year for the spoon.

where are the holes in our list?
any glaring weaknesses?

IMO we still need some more outside pace in the middle of the ground. hopefully Cox, William and Allison come on and provide that.

would also love the best mid in the draft next year to go with the best this year, depending on where our 2 first rounders fall next year there will be plenty of options to move up the draft board.

You guys look like you'll be fine long term. If you keep McLuggage, Berry and Witherden, you have a gun midfield that can match GWS. Go home factor might be a problem but you look set for success long term.

The Q-Clash might actually be a good game next season.

not a fan of port, ever since sitting behind the goals at the 2004 GF listening to that awful bloody song of yours for what seemed like hours.:(:'(

You won the last 3 so you shouldn't have been too sad. It's not like you were smashed by 119 points :$:$:'(

I don't have an issue of keeping them it's the developing part. The club have done a lot to try and rectify both IMO. Good times ahead hopefully.

Yeah getting Noble will help a lot with that. I'm not going to say much for purposes of not wanting to incriminate myself but the Crers were very good at developing players, especially later picks.

Team in the OP looks pretty week still. Will take another 2-3 drafts to get together a team that will push for a premiership in around 2022.

Yeah, our list build is still far away from being fully complete but we're finally on the right track which is fantastic.

As good as it is to "win" on draft night, premierships are won on retention and development. Time will tell if we've improved in those areas.

Such exciting times though; looking forward to watching these young kids grow year in year out.

We are finally starting to add that elite, top end talent through the draft which we haven't had the opportunity to do two years in a row since the premiership days. Schache and McCluggage are two super talents that we are lucky to add to our list. I think the club worked hard to set up our spine/add quality young talent to our key stocks and we have a terrific young group with Schache, Andrews, Hipwood, McStay, Close, Smith, Gardiner, Freeman and Skinner and possibly Ballenden to come next year.

What we lacked before this draft was the elite young midfielders. We already have some decent older midfielders with Beams, Rocky, Zorko, Rich, Basti, Bundy, MRobbo ect. but that part of the ground was a definite worry heading into the future. We only really had Robertson, Mathieson, Keays, Jansen and Taylor as midfield options for the future with Mathieson probably the only one from that group who has shown the ability to potentially be something more than a B grader as a pure midfielder.

Adding McCluggage gives us our first potential superstar mid in this rebuild. I think all of Berry, Witherden, Cox and Allison have the ability to become midfielders as well and in Lyons we get another pure mid. Next year we need to focus on adding more gun midfielders through the draft at the top end of the draft. We should have two top 10 picks and possibly even two top 5 picks which would position us well to add another two highly rated midfielders to our young squad. If we can do that I think we will start to have the young talent to rival the other clubs.

TL/DR Our youth tall stocks are really promising but we need to add to our youth midfielders/flanker stocks like we did last night.

I'm not sure about a flag. But after another few drafts hopefully we can move out of the bottom 6. Mayes, Paparone, Smith, McStay, Andrews, Gardiner, Taylor & Cutler were nice little additions from 2012-14. Schache, Hipwood, Keays & Mathieson from 2015 have also been very solid for us so far and McCluggage, Berry, Witherden, Cox & Allison seem like a nice little group of players too.

But we still need at least another two drafts (maybe three) of serious Top 30 talent. And we're going to need some to become A-graders. Hopefully Schache and McCluggage can be those.

can we challenge before the likes of Rockliff, D.Beams, Rich, Christensen, Zorko, Robinson give it away?

the oldest of those is Zorko and Robinson at 27 (minimum 3/4 years left) and the youngest is Christensen 25.

The biggest problem you guys have had is keeping players, however if Brissie can get their management and coaching right (which you seem to be addressing) in a few years could find yourselves back up there contending for a flag. You did very well in the draft by the way.

Thanks for letting us know.

Spine is often the hardest part to get right. we have loads of talent alone our spine and all of similar age, meaning they will play their best footy together. We do still need some more top end mid talent. we should be trying to push for a flag before the likes of Rich, Beams, Zorko etc all go, but it is just as important to make sure we have the kids coming through behind them, as our young tall spine will still be peaking past when our current top mids are gone.

We need another top 5 midfielder to go with Hugh, plus we need Squiz, Matho, Berry/Witherden and Keays to develop into some good midfield options for us. when you consider we need to be able to replace Beams, Rocky, Zorko, Rich, Robbo in 5 years time it shows how much more midfield depth we need.

Hoping next year being a talls draft we might be able to pick the best midfielder at 3 or 4 again.

Yeah plus we have Port's pick which will hopefully be a top 8 selection. If we add another two gun midfielders in next years draft I think we'll have the young talent to take us forward. We are just lacking another 2 young gun mids at this stage.

Too many false dawns in our recent past to even talk about this IMO.

The only thing I'm confident of is that our club is better run than it has been before. We are at least working towards eliminating the own goals that have killed us in the past.

After an ok season in 2014 for a bottom 8 club if you told me over the next few years we were going to add Dayne Beams, pick 2 being one of the better forwards of the last few years and arguably the top midfielder from the draft at pick 3...I'd be really excited for the future...

Due to our terrible form on the field I'll just be happy with our players getting their confidence back and a couple of home wins and hopefully a bit of improvement each year. So many of our players under the age of 25 have big deficiencies in their game.

Things could go very well for us again next year draft wise.

Dont get me wrong I would love nothing more to see a big rebound next year winning 8 or more games and having Rocky give the brownlow a nudge after re signing mid season.

But.......

Say we had another tough year finishing 16th or 17th, Rocky has a great year but elects to leave via a very juicy free agency contract, port finishes down the bottom of the ladder with us, and Ballendean has a good year but misses some crucial games and stays out of rekoning for the top couple of picks.

Then........

We might have three picks in the top 5 plus Ballendean, plus Clayton!
