Looking back at this diagnosis:

Need the following urgently:

• Ruckman and probably a ruck-forward as well unless we groom Hipwood as one?

As it turns out, we got Oscar the day after this comment was made!

• 2 small forwards that excel at defensive pressure. must have elite pace, agility and good goal sense... arguably the hardest position to play in the modern game and even harder to find someone who fits this criteria.

I guess we got them in the end with Charlie, Kai and Ah Chee.

• Lead up forward with ability to take a strong grab and find space inside 50.

Joe coming in really turbocharged our forward line by offering us this.

• Lock down defender with ability to nullify live-wire small forwards. Ability to rebound a massive bonus.

Starcevich filled this in spades. Answerth too to an extent.

• An inside mid with elite ball winning abilities, and must be clean with disposal especially in tight hand balling. Needs to be a clearance specialist.

Step forward Lachie Neale.

• A few midfield line breakers that can also run defensively. Must have elite kicking ability and game sense.

I guess Will Ashcroft and Hugh filled this role for us. Dunkley too aside from the kicking.

It just goes to show that winning premierships take a long damn time to get the right pieces together. An 8 year journey from that post. This club filled those needs perfectly.
