...Bay 13 should be closed for 24 hours as we mourn the loss of one of our "own".
If mods are not willing to go down this path, thats fine...but I'll be missing out of respect for family, club and supporters.
I agree 100% with this!

Perhaps we should all change our avatar pics to the player in question (when it is confirmed).

I think showing an appropriate form of respect throughout this board will suffice, bay13 is a community (albeit a circus) and therefore I think rallying around each other and paying our respects accordingly would be a far better idea than closing bay13

Don't think the bay needs to close down, but family members, fellow players and supporters will be feeling this for quite some time, and although this may seem biased, I think to avoid Port trolling until end of finals at least might be more appropriate, there's enough teams left in the comp who can take the hit, surely.

Sounds pretty good to me.

The Bay didn't close when Jim Stynes passed away, it just requires people to act human for a while and not troll a matter bigger than AFL.
The difference is, we all knew (unfortunately) Stynes was going to pass, as he was terminally ill.

The shock loss of a perfectly healthy 23yo promising Footballer has more of an impact.

Are you trolling me? No one's life has "more of an impact", what kind of stupidity is that?

Seriously though, you're trolling, right?

One of our own??? I don't know about you but I didn't know the bloke personally... and if I really wanted to respect someone I was mourning the last place I would be coming is on Bigfooty and Bay 13.

What part of my post is a troll? Because trolling is not the intent.

You compared today's loss with that of Jim Stynes, and I was simply pointing out the difference between the two circumstances.

I'm not saying one had more of a "life" impact than the other, more the news of the passing. A shock loss will always have more of a drastic impact than one that is expected. Not saying one is worse than the other, and not saying one deserves special treatment over the other. Don't get on your high-horse.

So you're suggesting John McCarthy's loss is at a bigger scale than Jim Stynes, Ted Whitten etc? There is no scale when there is death. Now go run a long with your stupidity somewhere else.

Look mate, you're bending my words. If you read my post correctly, I'm not talking about the players life of achievements.

Let me give you an example of what I mean, and this is talking hypothetically.

What has more of an impact?
The death of an 95yo woman critically ill, caused by the illness?

or a 20yo woman in an unforeseen accident?

Ridiculous suggestion.

We all feel for his family and it's a terrible tragedy, but to suggest anything is gained by shutting down an online AFL forum for 24 hours as a mark of respect, shows some need a reality check.

His family and friends will be absolutely devastated by the news and will not give a sh_t about what a bunch of no-name armchair generals on a footy forum think or do.
