Make of it what you will, hopefully it gets finishesd sometime this century.

SPO:ASADA hires ex-judge for NRL, AFL probes
ASADA's hired former Federal Court judge Garry Downes to help wrap up its long-running
investigations into the AFL and NRL.
The federal government's provided extra funding to ASADA for the appointment, which
comes just four days short of the investigation's first anniversary.
Sports Minister Peter Dutton says Downes will review ASADA's investigations and
provide it with a report on his findings by the end of April.
However, there's still no indication when the doping probes, which threaten to mar
both codes for a second season, will be finalised.

End of April. o_O

"The review process will assist ASADA in finalising its investigations, but does not in itself guarantee finalisation on a fixed date."

hmm, what a surpriseo_O

Cleary has become too much for ASADA to handle & is beyond their capabilities so hopefully finally some competence will be bought to finalise this saga.

I thought it was all over months ago according to Paul Little?????

Nah, not if you're fluent in weasel speak.

The statements from Little and the AFL along the lines that they are aware of nothing which suggests infractions are imminent are just as true today as they were when spoken.

Furthermore, they will remain true until the day infractions are announced. Or if you want to be picky maybe a couple of days before, if a quiet warning to bend over and apply some lube is given.

On the topic of anniversaries…tonight Grandstand on ABC News24 has a feature on 'The Blackest Day in Australian Sport' one year on…

7:30pm. See you all at 8pm for a good foam and/or froth.

Maybe the judge is there to make sure that all the i are dotted etc if infraction notices are to be issued down the track. asada would not want to be taken by the likes of google lawyers. Lol

My guess also. Not sure why you'd call a judge in to review things if you were intending to call "Nup, everything looks in order here. Bombers and Sharks are clean. Play on."

End of April....just after the money making Anzac Day weekend ;)

You would think the edict has now been given by the Sports Minister..."wrap this up".

The judge will give ASADA solid advice whether and how to proceed with infractions, warnings, spankings etc.

This development would indicate that everyone internally in Oz would like this wrapped up and not left open ended.

Of course, WADA still hovers, but this is a clear indication of an end strategy. I wonder even if ASADA, EFC and AFL have even got together and agreed to maybe largely abide to an Independant reading by a High Court Judge?

I defer to more legalistic reading of this, but that's my quick take .

Too complicated, too much conspiracy.

How about "The investigation has reached a point where an independent evaluation is a sensible QA measure?"

I think this could be one of the most significant developments thus far.

Is this a clear indicator that infractions are coming?

At the very least, any poster in here taking the position that infractions are definitely off the table imo cannot back up that position yet...

I would think it is a clear indication ASADA are unsure whether their evidence would hold up in court TBH

Well i'm happy with progress. Glad to see that finally things may be wrapping up soon...
