JUst wondering were you guys rate this kid another B.O.G for calder on the weekend and were will he go in the draft?

Looks pretty set to make the metro team this year. I saw his game for Calder and was pretty impressed. A big carnival could see him go somewhere around 30-40 in the draft

Like what I've seen of Arrowsmith. He's great kick on both sides of the body and penetrating ( particularly the right ), got good leg speed and pretty light on his feet ( seen him dance his way around a few guys and leave them for dead ).

On the flipside I havn't seen too many 4 quarter efforts from him, more flashes of what he's capable of, could impose himself a little more. But I rate him pretty high. Mid-fielders with his physical attributes are always going to be desirable. Just look how Carlton have drafted the past few years 187 to 190 cm mids were almost exclusively their picks last season.

Arrowsmith kinda gets 7/10 in most aspects of the game, and doesn't really have one weapon of any note. Although, he does have good penetration with his kicking.

Penetration in his kicking I would have thought was a weapon.

Further to my previous post he's probably anywhere from 20-50 range for me.

I have actually had him around 50-60 in my list but admittedly the guy is going good. Still have queries about how his body will develop and whether he will be able to handle a KP at AFL level or whether he will be a taller mid. His kicking and his agility are his best assets.

Champ formline important for this one.

He is a terrible kick! and it is a major concern. No composure when he gets the footy and just throws it on the boot and it is likely to go anywhere. Doesnt spot up targets or hurt the opposition with his kicks needs to do a lot of work to improve this side of his game. Agree that he can thump it but its no good if you thump straight to the opposition is it.

Sorry disagree, any guy who can kick a daisy cutter 50m and hit a chest is a decent kick in my books.

He is not a kp player at 188cm and plays on the wing or ruck rover for Calder. Flood likes to isolate him or Polkinghorne in their fwd 50 because both are good marks for their relative size. Arrowsmith is a 60m kick with low hangtime. An awesome weapon the way footy is played these days. Arrowsmith was extremely impressive at state screening last year in beep test and agility run. Four or five clubs would have drafted him last year but he didnt nominate choosing to complete year 12. His queries are hands below knees and poor vision with hands. All in all a lock to be drafted I think.

he is coming 11th in the competition for effective kicks, and only 3 of the players above him have a better effective to non-effective kick ratio.

Close, but not quite correct according to my stats. He is 11th in effective kicks overall, but actually 17th if you break it down to effective kicks per match (although three players above him are ineligible this year). Seven players above him (2 ineligible) actually have a better effective to non-effective kick ratio.

I think we were saying the same thing. I also think he will end more a taller wing type player but he has a body that is still filling out and growing. Clubs will be attracted to him bc of his versatility.

Use the effective and ineffective kick stats on the TAC Cup website as a very, very small guide. When and how is a kick ineffective or effective? The eye is a far better guide.

Last week there was a player credited with 2 goals in a match, funny thing is they only credited him with one kick. If that basic stuff isn't right, I'm not sure anything subjective such as effective and ineffective kicks is worth placing too much emphasis on!

the kids not playing are the 1s recording the stats so you can not recall on them as 100% correct>>>

played well against parade in the herald sun shield match early kicking a few very quickly, but once again dropped off , note that he is a very good player but couldnt get his ****ta school over the line

Footyman, while i esentially agree to you, IMO the question becomes one of how and when you can legitimitley use decision support tools. While there will never be a substitute for watching the kids play there is also probably a time and a place where these tools could prove useful for confirming/disconfirming what you see with the naked eye (amongst other things). Come on mate, surely of all people, you've read the Moneyball article ;):D

yeh ok, fair enough.... but his kicking efficiency, is still above average according to those stats (although they may not be the most reliable)
