Perhaps he has the same mum with a different father but I may be wrong. I thought his 'brother' played for Port or Adelaide.Really? My bad.

He is the half brother of Melbourne player Shane McAdam and Fremantle rookie Roy Benning, and the cousin of Gold Coast's Jy Farrar.Perhaps he has the same mum with a different father but I may be wrong. I thought his 'brother' played for Port or Adelaide.
While I agree with most of your post, I will just clarify that I generally am not a poster that will attack players, as I don't really see the point.Harsh? Why does everyone tip toe around Ash yet go in boots and all for so many others? To say a player's game is not effort based and then forgive him because we are all different is insane. Effort requires nothing more than a will to give your best in every contest. If a player is not doing that as a minimum at the elite level he has no right to be on the ground.
Effort is the one thing you'd think is a given when a player is given the chance to build a career and set themselves up for life.

My point about his effort is that while I am sure he is giving effort, his game is not solely based on effort (if that makes sense).
Anyway, watching him last night was actually a bit sad IMHO.
Not by anyone on this siteSome may its his confidence. But he's been playing vfl for 8 or so weeks and still hasnt gotten it back. Something isn't right with him. What is it, who knows. Can it be fixed?

My unfounded and unproven opinion on AJ is that he was quite good in his early days when he would have just been told to go out and enjoy himself. As the rigorous and reality of AFL set in, he struggles with how we want him to play his role and what's required. This isn't AJ"s fault as he just isn't good enough and that reality may have bought him to the conclusion that he's not up to it.
I posted that he was shit - I'm surprised that didn't sort out the issue. Not by anyone on this site

Perhaps he's not reading bigfooty - we should message him on social media - seems the only option left.its a proven method......but some dont respond

I wasn't suggesting it's on the club. I'm suggesting that AJ might not be up to it. He's still got 18 months to rectify it and things can change but I don't think AJ thinks he's up to it.I disagree. If a player can't manage to play within a system, then they're not AFL standard. Every club has one. This isn't on the club - they've done as much as possible and still want him to succeed.
He's a confidence player but even his confident plays aren't enough. Wil Parker outperformed him in half a quarter and that can't be happening from a guy with under 30 mins of AFL experience prior.I thought he was eventually starting to work himself into the game but it was far too little and too late.
Won’t have any trade value now unfortunately but hopefully he can find himself a new home for next year.
Ginnivan didn’t suit us. He’s now a bit more of a star who can march to the beat of his own drum at Hawthorn.
Ash needs somewhere that lets players have more free reign. A smaller club with less pressure from fans etc perhaps. A system based club where you play your designated role, isn’t for him.
Interesting take, I took that particular roar as genuine and trying to rouse some confidence inside the poor bloke. The first cheer sounded a little ironic to me.
He’s got the skills but not enough mongrel for defence.I don't mind the idea of Johnson in defence.
Sheedy was a master at turning defenders into forwards and forwards to defenders.
I think your post indicating the club is losing patience may suggest it can’t be fixed. Some may its his confidence. But he's been playing vfl for 8 or so weeks and still hasnt gotten it back. Something isn't right with him. What is it, who knows. Can it be fixed?

Any ball park idea of what he’d be on $$ a year , maybe they need the old school sit down reality check chat with him , “AJ your currently on really good coin, have state of the art facilities, chef style meal catering etc & you can continue to do so for years to come if you perform BUT if you continue as is , your looking at life outside of footy, the old real world Mon to Fri job on a lot less coin etc. It may sound a bit simplistic & clutching at straws but atm anything that may work is worth a shot, as whatever’s been tried or said definitely isn’t hitting home……yeah
They would have been hoping they would see more from him.
Even in the first couple rounds when he played alongside checkers, just wasn't performing as he did last year.
27 this year, time is running out. You would have thought he would be taking a step forward, not backwards.
Not much I wouldn't think. Was on rookie wage 2021-2022. Promoted to the senior list, had some good games in 2022-2023, so maybe a little more than rookie wages, but wouldn't be good money.Any ball park idea of what he’d be on $$ a year , maybe they need the old school sit down reality check chat with him , “AJ your currently on really good coin, have state of the art facilities, chef style meal catering etc & you can continue to do so for years to come if you perform BUT if you continue as is , your looking at life outside of footy, the old real world Mon to Fri job on a lot less coin etc. It may sound a bit simplistic & clutching at straws but atm anything that may work is worth a shot, as whatever’s been tried or said definitely isn’t hitting home……
Maybe he just doesn’t enjoy footy enough or is dealing with personal issues that are effecting his capabilities, hope he can turn it around soon or it may be too late.
oh ….. that blows my plan to pieces lol Retraction required!!Not much I wouldn't think. Was on rookie wage 2021-2022. Promoted to the senior list, had some good games in 2022-2023, so maybe a little more than rookie wages, but wouldn't be good money.
