I was ashamed of the supporters around the players race who clapped the players off the ground. Seriously why would you do that? They were pathetic last night & those supporters should've let them know about it. No need to throw memberships at the players or spit on them, just give them a reminder that that sort of effort is unacceptable.

Our club on a whole has gone soft over the last 7-8 years & seem more worried about causes & themes on match days than the main business of being a Football Club & winning matches. Ever since McMahon finished up as president our standing as a Football Club has been on the slide. We were the no. 1 Club in Melbourne from the early 90's till early the eary 00's & it took a ra ra ra president at Collingwood to knock us off our perch & they are miles ahead of us now on & off the field. We need to get ruthless from the board down & make decisions that will make us successful on the ground again, not just a business that makes lots of money in case of a rainy day because if this crap keeps up for much longer it's going to come sooner rather than later.

Totally agree

The EFC is now a mediocre club and unfortunately the majority of supporters are now accepting of this. The clapping off last night proves this. I lost my voice last night arguing with some of those nuff nuffs!!!! I am also sick of these supporters that tell me to go and support Richmond. WTF has that got to do with it!!! I support Essendon but I won't give the team a standing ovation after the have been pumped by the bottom team and continue to serve up crap like that

Felt like i was watching 2 neutral sides for the 2nd half. I honestly didnt give a stuff.

I know what you mean. My mates and I sat there during the second half chatting and ocassionally looking at the footy. We honestly couldn't have cared less what was going on the field. Except for when Le Cras was going for his tenth. First time in my life I can remember actually wanting the opposition to score.

I clapped LeCras' tenth goal last night. Just sayin'.

Nothing wrong with showing appreciation for a great performance by a single player.

I'm not going to boo, I'm not going to turn on a team I've supported my whole life, and I'm not going to complain about who should be/should have been/should still be the coach of the club.

I'm just going to continue as I did in 2006. I'll watch, I'll hope, I'll support my club and take solace in knowing things will get better. Take note: Essendon didn't win a premiership for almost 20 years before 1984, and by 2000 they had another four and were the powerhouse club of the AFL on and off the field.

I'm willing to bet everything I own that no Geelong supporter, despite FOUR DECADES without a flag, and countless heartbreaking 2nd and 3rd placings, would ever tell you it wasn't all worth it for 2007 and 2009. No Collingwood supporter, despite being perennial runners up and, dare I say it, chokers, would ever tell you that it wasn't worth it to knock off Essendon in 1990. And mark my words, in the next few years, there's going to be thousands of Richmond supporters, or Bulldogs supporters, or St.Kilda supporters who'll tell you all the heartbreak since 1980/1954/1966 was worth it as well.

Seeing supporters of other teams in this thread, on the Essendon board, showing maturity, genuinely speaking as football fans who've been where we are now, and actually putting out words of support (as opposed to the trolling vitriol that sadly makes me hate this forum most of the time) and not being snarky should probably be the best indicator of how everyone should be approaching the team at the moment.

Also, just note that Eddie McGuire was stunned on the breakfast show on Triple M when it was Essendon's turn for the membership drive, because he couldn't believe a club he acknowledged had an illustrious history and such a strong, faithful and good natured supporter base hadn't (at the time) passed the 40,000 mark. POWERWORDS: Strong, illustrious, faithful. He followed that by rightly pointing out that he has the utmost respect for Collingwood's members of 1999, because it's the people who stick around and fly the flag when performance is down that keep the team going.

Simply, be disappointed, certainly, but anyone who turns on this team and boos the players and staff and spreads the kind of negativity we got a taste of at the game last night doesn't deserve to follow this football club.

Because they support their team come hell or high water?

+1

Also clapped him wheb he came off the ground after his head clash.

I found it funny that 5,000 Eagles fans were making 10x more noise than any of our supporters. Their 'Eagles' chant craps over anything our cheersquad has done.

Gees, we're getting stuck into our cheersquad now.

Bloody embarrassing last night was. There was no defensive pressure, and i've seen better kicking in a under 10's game. I'm sick of getting messages saying the team I support are soft.

I know we're going through a rebuilding phase, but all I want is for the team to show some ticker. Unfortunately, the last 3 weeks we haven't given a whimper. That's where it hurts

Are you going to take our advice? :p

Hird's comments could've been spoken on Carlton's behalf as well. I feel your pain.

Both clubs need a Rocky-movie-marathon asap.

Yeah lol Rocky marathon during the week and on matchday have one of the coaches load up youtube on their laptop and play Al Pacino's speech from Any Given Sunday for the pre-game team talk.

Great post.

Yes we were terrible last night - but don't boo the team. I think some maturity is in order. The team out there last night was much the same as the one that knocked off the Dogs - after the dogs game everyone was singing their praises, now people are demanding public executions - both positions can't be right. We're not as good as we thought we were after the dogs game (probably the high point for the year) and we aren't as bad as last night showed (hopefully the low point).

I was ashamed of the team's performance but I will never be ashamed of the team or to be an Essendon supporter. I'll keep supporting. Supporting doesn't just entail enjoying premiership years, or watching James Hird run around. It means enduring Aaron Henneman in the ruck, Michael Werner at full forward or Michael Quinn anywhere near the ball.

Re: We aren't St Kilda or Collingwood....

Grew up going to Vic Park in the late 60's and 70's. Been watching us ever since.

Now you can say a lot of things about Collingwood supporters and I have heard all the jokes but you are the first I have heard of calling us disloyal and prone to turn on our own

Thats not our form.

I understand you are hurting and want to lash out at us but that was a wild whoosh that didnt get near landing

Good luck for round 19 , its the only time I can support you

Re: We aren't St Kilda or Collingwood....

Back when collingwood were shithouse the agm`s were compulsive viewing.

I guess you were a Collingwood member then if you got to see those. Looks like your timing re jumping ship was way out

Dont worry we have a little spot for prodigal sons returning to the fold

Heres the number you need to get on board the bandwagon 84120000

Exactly, I havw been a member since 1975, so saw a lot of hard times, before I saw success.

Seems the teenagers who jumped on board after our successes, are soft as,. You take the good with the bad, how do you think Brisbane supporters are doing at the moment? True supporters always support their club, not chuck a hissy fit & say, I won't support the team until they are successful again.

Too many gutless and pathetic performances over the last 3 years it isn't acceptable. Showing our feelings isn't anything to be ashamed about. WE LOST TO THE BOTTOM TEAM WHO ARE ONE THIRD OF THE TEAM AWAY FROM WA. That performance isn't good enough!

Re: We aren't St Kilda or Collingwood....

Obviously these two boys are too young to have gone to Vic park and have completely wiped "the shaw years" from their memories. collingwood fans go harder on their own than any other. Have experienced Vic park many times, caught it first hand.
As for st.kilda fans ? Are you kidding ? I`ve been to moorabbin and you could swing a cat there at times and not hit one saint fan. If there was no draft or salary cap there would be no st.kilda.

Maybe that's something Essendon fans should start doing instead of being soft. Face facts, Knights is a hack, and was always going to be. The sooner the Essendon members and fans grow a set and demand this disgrace get the boot, the better the club will be.

Mission complete M. Knights. Resembling them on and off the ground.
Look not trolling here because Essendon are a very strong proud club one of the powerhouses and most respected clubs ever whom I have a resect for.
I just wonder how they came to appoint Knights he came from a club with terrible culture that he was captain of ,an unsuccessful club and a club full of selfish ego's knights cambell etc etc . He was less than sucessful at Bendigo bombers and then he gets the nod at Senior level (with an extension) with one of the leagues most successfull proud and good cultured clubs.Baffling.Where did the Essendon board expect knights to have developed a succesful formula.?I dont think the supporters boooing is such a bad thing one th9ing it does point out is that the essendon supporters are proud of thier club and expect high performance from thier club . It's passion I'd be more worried if they clapped them from the ground after that.
