It's just that many of us are starting to suspect he's more vested in his personal enterprises than in playing football to his utmost
a guy that spends more time worrying about how he looks than how he plays
If someone seems to lack focus, then the natural tendency is for people to wonder if there are other things affecting them outside of football, for example, Muzza pulling out of a game due to his upcoming court appearance.

Maybe his role needs to be simplified? Instead of a) beat your man then b) attack, we just play him hff and tell him to get the ball and kick it in the general direction of JK/Lecca/Darling and they'll handle the rest.

Sure, but we already have an entire midfield who does that.

James hird used to lick his hands before contesting a mark

Guess he wasn't focused either

LOL Keyser you are going to compare a ritual a guy obviously had to a guy that got up after going to ground in a contest and dusted his shorts while the ball was still in play a metre from him.

Just using it as an example of not being "switched on" and IMO Smith has a lot of that lack of intensity that could lead to him doing similar.

Is not best 22 and won't be.

Isn't a good AFL footballer.
You're doing it wrong. It's got nothing to do with his football ability, his hair is the problem

That is also shit.

Smith's got his work cut out for him to force his way into the team. Wilson, Bennell, McGovern, Brown, Schofield, Yeo, Ellis were all good tonight.

I'd say he's just about done at West Coast, I would happily play all those players well before I thought about Smith, may need to look to him home state to continue his AFL career

Bennell had his second lack lustre game in a row. Didn't do any wrong but he's not under pressure and not getting involved.

Wilson isn't ahead Smith.

Wilson - what is he? too small for a tall, but last season he wasn't agile enough for a small (might have improved over the summer but it's hard to tell)
Bennell - difficult to say he's ahead of Smith after two Nab games, will wait and see how he goes when the ball is coming down quicker and more often against really dangerous guys like Walters before casting judgment
McGovern - is a tall.
Brown - has his own issues but is also a tall. Not best 22 anyway.
Schoey - no idea what his role will be this season, but he's ahead of Smith if they are competing for the same role
Yeo - I'd like to think he's ahead of Smith atm, if for no other reason than if he's not in our best 22, why did we recruit him?
Ellis - ahead of Smith but needs to stay fit.

So of seven players, two definately aren't in competition with Smith, two are ahead, one has clear issues of his own, another is relatively unknown hasn't done anything to guarantee a spot in the real season in the two Nab games, and one (Schoey) we have no idea what his role will be.

Of the guys Smith is in competition with I'd have him third of five, behind Ellis and Yeo, but ahead of Wilson and Bennell.

I don't get why Smith cops so much flack but Sheppard, for the most part, escapes criticism.

I wouldn't say he has done anything more at AFL level than Smith has.
You're right shep has been disappointing.pretty poor early draft pick
