I just logged on to ask a similar question.
Were you given a shortlist of players we were considering or did you just have to make up your own list, so you had info on each draftee?
I'm also interested in who posted the instagram photos of the players on draft night. The players obviously didn't take their own photos & several of the messages supposedly posted by the draftees included the same typo "apart", when they meant "a part". That made it look like they had all been typed by the same person. Did you just ask the players for a quote & then post it on their behalf?
It is great to get access to all this information so quickly about our new recruits, but it is interesting to hear what your role involves as well.

I do chat with the list management team prior to the draft - but like them, we need to prepare for every scenario.
The players took their own photos and posted their own captions. Amazing how far along the kids are with social media these days. The only one I supplied a photo to was Will Brodie!
Thanks for that feedback. That's great. They were very quick with their posts. I see from the Suns website that the draftees were presented with tablets & induction apps, developed by Michelle Mitchell & her team. I'd be interested to learn more about those too.
I really appreciate the information you provide here & via the official club sites.

I had a look at a couple of the other clubs website and the info they have put together about the new draftees is basically non existent other than snippets of them playin last year.

Yeah, props to Kieron and the team for killing it so far this pre-season, stuff like this video of the rookies first day at the club going up so quickly. Its content like this that is not usually documented but goes above and beyond, especially compared to most of the other clubs, and footy nerds like us (well me at least) love it. Gives some cool insight into what goes on at the club and we get to watch the kids come into the club. Great for the fans! and for the families of the rookies too I guess.
Also, that description of Scrimshaw. 'The best candy salesman since Willy Wonka'.

This is what the fans want to see. Tell the membership department that most of us adults don't need caps, scarfs and key rings if we can get more great content like this. These days it's all about the fan experience and not how much 'stuff' you get. Fans just want to be shown love and content and fan engagement is more powerful than stuff.
Out of interest is there an AFL media award for best club website/content/social media engagement? From what I've seen GCFC Digital is making the early running for such an award.

Disagree. The membership inclusions are putrid. The point of including scarves and caps is to get every Suns member in colours at every game. I see countless people with Suns lanyards wearing plain clothes with no identifying that they're Suns fans apart from their lanyard around their neck.

Once you've got a 3 hats, 3 scarves and 3 key rings isn't there a tipping point where it doesn't really mean a great deal? Maybe the first 3 years of membership should be about loading people up with club paraphernalia so that we see the colours at the game. Maybe there should be some rewards program for membership milestones - 5 years, 7 years, 10 years... give these people something a little special or give them a decent credit so that they can choose something they want from the Suns store.

Hey GCFC Digital, just thought I'd say I'm pretty excited to see what I can only presume is a series of videos of Jack Bowes' journey to the AFL. It reminded me of some high school/pre-2003 NBA draft videos I've seen of LeBron James as well as the UFC's Embedded series they do before a big PPV. I understand the budget restrictions may not have allowed you to go as far with it as you would have liked but I'm envisioning the first video of Jack in Cairns talking about where it all began.
Even if that's not the case, the footage shown in the trailer certainly gets you excited to see the series!

Hey GCFC Digital, just thought I'd put it out there that the 19th of April 2017 marks exactly 30 years since the first VFL/AFL game was played at Carrara and the Suns are hosting the Crows at Carrara on the 22nd of April 2017. Gold Coast's very own Scott Clayton played in that first Carrara game for Fitzroy back in '87.

the competition for guessing the numbers closes on monday at 5pm, with the prize drawn at the same time. i'd assume we'll know monday night or first thing tuesday morning.
