sorry to start a new thread just for this little question but i didnt know where i should post this...

what school competition do assumption college play in and are they any good?

ACK are a powerhouse footy school.
They have won heaps of AGS flags and are second only to Xavier for boys drafted to the AFL.

They play in the AGS and Herald Shield, though I think they didn't have such a good list last year. I know that they have a great footy program built around Ray Caroll who has coached them for the past 25 years.

Spock Carroll has been coaching longer than that. (This year is his 50th on the Assumption payroll as a teacher). I played under him in '85. Am pretty sure he was coaching the 1st XVIII in the late 60's (as he coached blokes like Francis Bourke, Neale Daniher, Laurie Serafini & Crackers Keenan etc well before my time).

Not sure about Xavier having more VFL/AFL players. But they'd go 1-2 in a boxed Quinella. I'd guess somewhere in the range of 150-200 kids from ACK have gone on to play senior VFL/AFL footy over the years.

assumption WERE good! on the slide now unfortunatly but knowing their recent success i belive they will prove critics wrong in a few years not this season sorry

assumption were good and are looking good this year
last year got done by peninsula for the first time in history
there were some good players from that peninsula side
with the likes of grant, mccarthy, adams,

What about best ACK players/teams seen or played with? In the late 90's Mark Kinnear and James Byrne were very good. ACK still seems to be getting a few drafted, but not many going on to establish big AFL careers. Any reasons?

Currently on AFL lists are: Shane Crawford, Jason Johnson, Tom Lonergan, Richard Douglas, David Trotter cant think of any others.

Lost to Pegs by 25 in the second dig, and by all accounts could have won it. Not sure how much that says.

They will match Xav this yr, and have every chance to win. When is the game btw?

Angus Graham is on Richmonds list btw Divado.

Tim O'Keefe got cut from Essendon this yr, probably doesnt say much :p lol

And while I'm pretty sure he didn't goto ACK, Barry Brooks (another King Island boy like Graham) is playing for the Saints. I can't remember if he went to ACK or boarded in Tassie.
Dave Mundys a Seymour boy, he didn't attend ACK did he?

Not sure when the game is, but do you think they'll challenge in the ags?

Definitely... But thats just my opinion, and I'm slightly biased having attended ACK but it's good to point out I'm not there now so I'm not that inclined to just talk their chances up.

I think they are a big chance. Will be a very small team, but should have pace to burn. Almost half the team already have 1st's experience which is always good. I'm still in contact with a lot of boys there and by all accounts they've picked up some good talent through boarding this year.
Got a Mansfield Bushys boy there, Jamie Sheenan who from what I've seen looks the goods. Had 29 touches and 4 goals in the game against Broadford which was good to see.
Interesting to point out Adam Maric's younger brother is attending ACK now and not PEGS, which i found to be a bit of a shock. Only year 9 at the moment, and is tiny, but sounds like he has some of the traits of he's older brother. Wont be in consideration for 1st's or anything this year, just thought it was good info.

At the moment this is all pretty much speculation as you can imagine and until the game against Xavier we don't know much. But I'll definitely go down for a watch and will provide as much feedback on the game as possible for anyone who's interested.

Who do you follow is the AGS Macca out of interest?

People will be surprised this year I think. It's a joke that people can write off a school like Assumption after such a rich history. After 5 Priemerships on the trot, one bad year and they are instantly on the way out? I doubt it...
While they struggle to compete with schools who have the power to hand out scholarships (as ACK has never and seemingly will never give out any form of scholarship), they still manage to bring in an amazing amount of talented country kids who are looking to play high quality footy, hence they board at ACK.
Anyway enough rambling for me, best of luck to everyone in the AGSV this year, it will be interesting to see how it unfolds!

will sam vale and seth hill play 1st's for assumption this year?

pegs will definately be the team to beat this year, and marcellin and peninsula will be the other front runner along with assumption by the sounds of it.

From reading other threads though, it seems Mentone will be the dark horse. Apparently this years team went undefeated through 7, 8 and 9, and have a lot of guys listed for the dragons

Definitely should be a PEGS, ACK, Marcellin and Peninsula top 4 IMO. Mentone have never been much and I can't see that changing much.

From my experience, and as an ex-ack boarder, the city schools always dominate through 7,8,9,10 as the majority of our boarders come in yr.11. ACK is always weak through the early years, they are usually bottom end of the ladder but around yr.10 partially, but mainly 11 and 12 they rake in a large amount of boarders and in turn boost their team.
For example, the team that ACK team that won in '05' got thumped all through the junior yrs by PEGS, Marcellin etc, but when it came to the year that that group was 1st's, ACK smashed PEGS.
So yeah...

Wouldn't read much into having Dragons boys either, they looked pathetic on the weekend! lol :p

Haven't heard much about them mate, but I'll look into it and get back to you. Is one of them quite tall, or do I have them mistaken?
What year are they both?

yeah sam vale is bout 6'2 and seth hill is bout 5'10....they'd both be doing year 11 this year, originally from colbinabbin

Sam Vale is born in 1990, tall and looks real fit. seth hill was born in 1991 and is a smaller build. Vale played 1's cricket since the start of the year. Both played in the practice game against Broadford, Vale played a bit on the wing and hill played on the half back line.
