Maybe it's just my perception, but it seems like Aussie boxing is on the way up at the moment. The recent purchase of Foxtel by DAZN certainly opens the door for a lot more boxing to take place in Australia/with Australians overseas and that's exciting for the sport. We currently have genuine world champions in Jai Opetaia, Skye Nicolson, Cherneka Johnson and Che Kenneally as well as recent world champions like Tim Tszyu, George Kambosos and Liam Paro who are still in the mix for title shots.

Matchroom/Eddie Hearn seem determined to raise the profile of boxing in this country by signing exciting young talent and giving them the platform like Huni, Teremoana etc. Eddie Hearn has talked about doing at least four big boxing cards in Australia this year after the success of their first sold out event on the Gold Coast two weeks ago and said in an ideal world they'd be coming to Australia to do big events 8-12 times a year. Here is a video from two weeks ago of Eddie Hearn talking about wanting to do more big boxing cards in Australia around the 2:00 mark:

I believe Matchroom are about to commit to another event in Sydney this coming March that will feature Kambosos' debut in the 140lb division as well as Nicolson defending her world title on home soil for the first time. No Limit also have some exciting cards on the horizon which was supposed to start with Goodman getting a world title shot against Inoue this weekend before he had to pull out. However, No Limit do currently have the Liam Wilson fight in early March and that's going to be held in Brisbane so fingers crossed that one goes ahead. I imagine they'll be looking to have Tim Tszyu fight in Australia at some point this year as well.

I'll also point out that the Gold Coast Council seem really determined to become a boxing city at the moment with the amount of winning bids they've placed to host world title fights involving Opetaia and Tszyu in the last few years and I think you really need that kind of government support for this to work properly and I can see it taking off even more when they build the new 18k Gold Coast Indoor Arena over the next few years in the lead up to the 2032 Olympics. Ideally, the Gold Coast would become the Las Vegas of Australia in terms of hosting world class boxing events.

So this thread is intended to be dedicated to all things Aussie boxing, from world champions like Jai Opetaia all the way to boxers that have recently started and have shown promise like Jazzy Parr. Feel free to share anything related to Australian boxing in this thread, no matter how big or small it may be.

Not needed.

The general boxing discussion thread is more than ample.
I disagree. I had a look through that thread it seemed to be almost entirely made up of posts about big world title fights/co-mains. My intention was for this thread to cover all levels of boxing in Australia.

Mate the only thing this thread will do is make the other one more sparse for comments.

The other thread is all we need. Swallow ya pride. Move on....

Considering there's only been two comments in that thread in the last week, I don't think it would make much of a difference. At least this one is specific to one area of boxing that is of interest to a decent amount of Australians like myself. I'm happy to post in this thread a few times a week as news becomes available.

Skye Nicolson commented on the potential title fight with Amanda Serrano a few days ago at the Ring Awards. Skye all but confirmed that she'll be fighting American Tiara Brown (WBC #1 contender) in Australia late March and still has her eyes on Serrano if that fight can be made, even though she doubts it. Maybe Skye can fight the IBF champion Nina Meinke later this year and hopefully capture her belt so it becomes undeniable that a unification fight with Serrano should be made.

Here we go! Tszyu looks to make his comeback in April on an Australian card against American Joey Spencer. Should Tszyu win in this one then it looks like he will get a blockbuster fight in the US later in 2025. Hopefully that involves a world title, but it looks like it may involve Keith Thurman (assuming he also wins). No Limit seem to be stepping up their game with these domestic cards. Wouldn't surprise me if they're feeling the pressure to step up now that Matchroom is taking the Australian market more seriously.

Gone a soft puncher.. smart.

More good news for Aussie boxing today. Kambosos and Nicolson will headline Matchroom's Sydney card on March 22nd. I'd guess this likely means the Tszyu fight in April won't be held in Sydney becaust they will have just hosted the Kambosos/Nicolson card. So Tszyu is probably heading for... the Gold Coast? Maybe Melbourne or Brisbane instead, but I suspect it will be the Gold Coast as Tszyu already has a history of fighting on the GC and the higher ups here seem to like him fighting here.

Gotta work his way back up now. Build the confidence before he heads back to the States. Tim definitely fights better in Australia anyway.
