The tennis has gone to nine and the cricket has gone to 7. Geech, everyone is going to be confused.

I don't have pay TV and I won't get that anytime soon. So i am a little bit worried on that front. I also hope Hobart doesn't get shafted to PayTV every game.

I would be interested in Digital access if Fox gets a share of the Aus Open and the domestic cricket scene so hopefully whoever has those has a good option for those.

Not shocked 7 went and got it. Now they have the grand slam. AFL(March-September) Spring Racing(October-November) and now cricket(November-Feb). They will be untouchable in the ratings. A fresh face could work wonders but i will miss ch.10. Hopefully Punter and others shifts across.

Don't think that was 10's fault. They were ambitious in giving NBL Sat night primetime coverage (Ch 7's was Sun midday iirc) but the ratings just weren't there and it became late night.

I do blame 10, their promotion and commentary was extraordinarily tacky. (Some may say ahead of its time)

Channel 7 had a mature broadcast, built on the back of having run sport before. Channel 10 had no clue... and fumbled the ball.

I'd imagine channel 7 would do their own production of some sort, otherwise how else would they do integrated advertising for their other shows which is the whole point of free to air sport these days.
Good point. Unfortunately, without question 7 are a lot worse in this regard than 9. Look at their Commonwealth games and Aus Open broadcasts. 10 are guilty of overkill with it too. It's there with 9 as well but nowhere near as intrusively.

I wonder whether 7 will have seperate big bash and test match commentators given a few of the big bash games will be on the night after a days play.

This was one of the additional steps necessary in the rebirth of Australian cricket. A scorched earth policy is needed, with a complete purge of the existing C9 commentary team. That said, Seven better not bring across the 'A Team' from their football commentary, they need to poach a combination of the BBL and ABC line up to give test cricket a fresh voice.

He was okay imo, just got led astray by the older boys at times.

Yes, when Clarke started in the box whilst he was injured there was a lot of praise for the way he called the game from a tactical POV. Became a buffoon as they all do at 9, but hopefully he can change again

I guess that means we never have Bill Lawry in the commentary box again.

I doubt Bill has any kind of contract with channel 9 that goes longer than five days at a time, let alone one that would lock him into the network without a cricket deal

7 butcher the rights to the afl now they will do the same with the cricket cant wait to hear big nose basil

The big show goes bang... .. AND ITS A HUGEEEEEEE SIX.

Australoa off to a good start... (when they're 0/34 after 17 overs.... and the RRQ is already up to 16 lol)

Now that its gone to 7, what does this mean for things like Highlight packages, or showing vision of players previous innings (or classic matches during long rain delays etc)? I assume that majority of the vision is still owned by Channel 9 and I would guess they wont be releasing it to 7 to use how they please?

Trying to think of the cricket Ch 7 has broadcast over recent decades. All I can think of are:

*1997 ODI/Test tour of South Africa
*2001 Ashes
*2005 ODIs on Oz's tour of England.

I remember them sending Dennis over to South Africa for the 1997 series.

Dennis then did some domestic matches on 9 when 9 had the AFL rights.

They'll probably use Fox's packages. They usually show footage of past overseas tours they have covered and World Cups especially when it's raining on their broadcasts. A couple of years ago Fox were also showing the 30min long World Series Cup highlights from 80/90's hosted by Richie. But I think this was tied in with deal at the time between 9/Fox where Fox were showing the days highlight's of the Ashes when the Poms were last here. So doubt we will see them again.

Rain delays and highlights packages will be supplemented with promos for MKR and endless cross promotion of ch7 rubbish.

"Wow wee Basil, Bix Maxy was sure bringing the heat before the rain hit.... and speaking of heat, let's take a sneak peak at what the MKR guys are serving up in the kitchen this week"

Be interesting if 7 go the ex player only route in commentary, or have some actual callers in there like 10.

Obviously no one wants BT or Basil but they could make a statement about their coverage if they went after someone like a Tim Lane. He mightn’t be everyone’s cup of tea but it’d signal they were heading in a very different direction to 9.
