Canary yellow with a neutral green secondary looks mint

Should also say, it's not a pre-requisite for a nation's national flag to be made up of the nation's national colours.

ie. Netherlands flag does not have any Oranje on it

Italy another famous example. India another.

Used to.
India another.
They have the symbol in the middle of their flag that's blue.

Just regarding National Colours, according to the It's an Honour website (government website), Australia has had three unofficial "colour combinations":
Prior to 1984, three colour combinations unofficially represented Australia:
  • red, white and blue
  • blue and gold
  • green and gold
Red, white and blue form the colours of the Australian flag and the first version of the Commonwealth Coat Of Arms.

Blue and gold have heraldic significance as the colour of the wreath in the Commonwealth Coat of Arms, which was granted by royal warrant in 1912.

In 1975 blue and gold were selected as the colours of the ribbon of the Order of Australia.

And, for those who've been making flags, the official colours of Green and Gold, which were formally recognised as official in 1984
The colour references are:
  • Green: PANTONE®348C
  • Gold: PANTONE®116C
As well as the colour codes for the National Flag itself:
Colour references for the Australian National Flag are:
  • Blue PANTONE® 280
  • Red PANTONE® 185

throwing this into the mix
No. I thought this had been raised before. But to quote craegus and Spanna_:
I don't think they'd really care.

IMO, Craegus is dead right. Why already divide our nation with symbols that MUST showcase our country's Aboriginal heritage, when we can design something that represents ALL of Australians, not just singling out a minority group that some are suggesting?
Yeah I have to go with fumbler, yes they were the original inhabitants, but seriously continuing to single them out as being the one and only group who has to be considered when it comes to any major Australian decision including a new flag, just makes a minority of everyone else who has made this nation home or was born here without any say about what happened in the past.

The best way to move forward is to be inclusive of all and single no-one out for any reason, and a new flag must represent that.

Here is my simple take on it(8 points as the NT will be added shortly). Not sure what colour scheme though, I am leaning towards red black and gold as it represents indigenous while reflects the English settled Australia via the federation star.

See this is where people need to be educated (and this time this post isn't about the whole of the nation just the indigenous part).

The Aboriginal flag does not represent all indigenous people of Australia as the Torres Straight Islanders are represented by their own flag. So any use of just the Aboriginal flag's colours deliberately ignores another section of the indigenous community.

As such the use of the Aboriginal flag alone (which it's creator has already stated that he does not want it used in a national flag, but that is another issue) or a variation on it would cause more issues than not using it at all.

Chill mate, without having a rainbow flag there is only so much one can do. The current flag doesn't represent the NT or ACT, indigenous (TSI or Aboriginal).

It's paying homage not trying to reflect every minority or majority.

But you see that is the point I have been making through this whole thread, we need a flag that represents all without representing any one specific group. So it need to feature elements/colours that are not directly associated with any of those groups. So no Union Jack or Aboriginal Flag being featured.

The current flag actually does represent the ACT and NT through the federation star (one point for each state equalling 6 and one for the two territories making up the 7. Should either gain statehood then an 8th point could be added).

Paying homage is one thing, but in doing this in your first design you have designed a flag that directly represents one group while placing everyone else as secondary (though the lower images do remove this as the colours represent everyone), while also defacing a current flag which would anger others who do not see their flag as being the symbol for the people who took their land as well as themselves.

Interesting PC take on the design. What are your thoughts on the current flag then? As well as the UK's view of their flag on commonwealth countries? As well as the Union Jack and the history of it's design...?o_O

Seems like you are trying to start an argument as an internet cop.

You literally posted the Aboriginal flag with a star and said "this should represent all 23 million Australians" then got mad when an Australian told you they felt not represented, explained why in clear detail and with a completely valid reason that is common knowledge in terms of the Aboriginal flag, only to call it "PC". You're the sort of guy that likes "Blurred Lines" too I'd imagine

The middle one has potential, but I don't think the 1st or third would be appropriate.

??? No I didnt.

When you try and please everyone you often please non. I can make a Red, White, Gold, Green, Blue and Black flag but it would be a mess.

I just questioned his argument as to having to appease everyone. Wales is not represented at all in the union jack, all indigenous groups are excluded from the current flag, the current flag is a bastardisation of another flag making up a portion of it. Each of these points are an examination of his issues with mine.

Your name is apt I'll give you that.

Wales is not included in the current Union Jack and guess what - there are movements to have a little dragon added or other ways for that representation to be added to the flag. See Wikipedia article "Union Jack" section "Campaigns for a new Union Flag".

It seems to me that the majority on here feel that a flag that doesn't specifically represent any group of Australians would be best - one that represents us as a whole, not some (or somehow all) groups of us. Unlike the UK we don't have separate countries forming one kingdom for us to meld the flags together. Some groups have flags, others don't, and every single one of us is different. What is needed is a flag that represents the whole lot of us, not all the different groups of us. So no Aboriginal Flag or Union Jack on the flag. What's uniquely or obviously Australian, that should be there.

I just don't understand your logic. You must also be opposed to the federation star if you take that position.

The Federation Star? You mean the star that has a point for each state and one for all the Territories and other places like Norfolk Island that fall under Australian jurisdiction? That's pretty much got everybody covered

In terms of land mass and the borders that settlers defined... Weird how you attack me for not being inclusive for when I didn't include the TSI colours, though you are fine using a symbol that represents the anglo governance of this country.

I am not saying I have a problem with it, I am just using your PC boundaries.

I was just posting a concept, I think you were looking for something to offend you. I won't contribute anymore designs to this thread I guess, incase they upset you delicate sensibilities.

None of us are being deliberately PC, we are using actual facts to put forward information that allows for constructive criticism of your and everyone elses designs.

If you read this entire thread (which I don't think you have) you will see how everyone here sits on their opinions of the current flag as well as every other concept that has been posted. If you cannot handle the criticism and everyones logical arguments then please do leave as we do not need this closed mindedness on here. If however you are open to a broad discussion that actually allows for everyones opinions then we may have a decent discussion.
