Glenorchy today scored a big win on the back of Matilda Thompson booting 5 goals and getting 64 disposals the Huskies ended up winning 13.12.9o to Devonport 1.2.8. The Eels struggled the entire day, only 12 inside 50’s for the game and a score of 1.2.8 showed Glenorchy’s dominance in this clash.

Glenorchy started with a 20 point lead over the Eels to end the first quarter, both Alexandria Hallandal and Matilda Thompson scoring goals for Glenorchy in the first quarter. It took Devonport until the last quarter before they got on the board. Glenorchy’s defence lead by the Campbell sisters not giving an inch at all.

Hayley Lonergan and Lauren Linton were both strong in defence as well for Glenorchy, managing to help rebound the ball away from the Eels’ 50 mulitple times preventing them from getting many inside 50’s throughout the clash. It was a little return to some form for Katie Juhnke with a lazy 33 disposals and a goal for Glenorchy.

Naomi Hart got onto the scoreboard in the second quarter as Glenorchy started to pull even further away from Devonport. Stephanie White tried her hardest in the middle for Devonport as did Ruby O’Keefe and Jessy Hewett. The young Devonport players were always up against it with a Huskies side wanting to atone for their exit from the finals last year by putting on a stronger performance this year.

Jasmine Graham had a bit of a quiet game for Glenorchy from centre half forward but had solid patches throughout the game. Eden Hewett was well held at full forward Ellie Campbell making sure that despite the forward entries she had to leave the forward 50 to get a touch on the ball.

Maddy Harding and Daisy Taylor weren’t too vocal for Glenorchy but also had their own patches where they added to some link up play to get Glenorchy into some scoring positions. But Matilda Thompson was the star of the day, 5 goals her best so far for Glenorchy. The 21-year-old is certainly putting her hand up for a second Glenorchy best and fairest award, and selection in the team of the year.

With the NWFL opting to begin the draft this year she could be in line to be selected to play in the higher league next season. Her sister Madeline also could be in line with a selection, as well as the Campbell sisters who have been tough in defence so far this season for Glenorchy.

The undefeated Huskies will battle Claremont next weekend at KGV Oval, with Devonport traveling to Lauderdale to play Lauderdale next week. Devonport have only had the one win this season coming in Round 2 against the East Coast Swans. The Eels were competitive against Hobart, but they fell away against Clarence and never actually started against Glenorchy. Their game against Lauderdale could very well be another tough day out for them.

GOALS – Glenorchy – Thompson 5, Hallandal 3, Hart 3, Taylor, Junke Devonport – Davies

The NWFL would like to announce the 2024 NWFL National Draft will take place for the first time at the conclusion of this season, it’ll be a historic night for the league as many new women will be welcomed to the league.

Clubs have expressed their excitement for the beginning of a new chapter of the league, with the very first draft, pre-season draft, and mid-season draft being added to the league.

With brand new clubs entering the league the league wants to expand the ability for clubs to fill their club lists and give players around the country the chance to be a part of the national league.

The Allies and Fitzroy are currently two brand new teams entering the league, they will join in 2025 and will take part in the drafts.

They join the following clubs in the league already.

Wollongong Stingrays
Adelaide Saints
Penrith Rams
Perth Demons
Brisbane Wildcats
North Launceston Robins
Hobart Hurricanes
North Sydney Chaos
Canberra Knights
Gold Coast Fury
Wyndhamvale Falcons
South Sydney Rabbitohs
Balwyn Tigers
Sunshine Coast Titans
Mackay Mustangs

The NWFL are excited for the future of the league, with all clubs looking forward to being able to draft players from around the country to bring the best possible players to the league. Zoe Viney helped lead the Bridgewater Ravens to big win over Bridport in Bridport today, the Ravens running out winners 15.5.95 to an inaccurate Bridport 1.6.12. Viney’s 57 disposals and two goals showed that the Ravens are going to be a tough side to beat this season. After missing out on the flag last season, the unbeaten Ravens didn’t give Bridport much today running out easy winners.

Kate Manteit had 52 disposals as well as two goals herself, helping set up a great win, Bridgewater started off well before they allowed Bridport a late goal to go into quarter time leading 4.2 to 1.0. The Seagulls struggled to find themselves after that, they only had two shots on goal both were behinds in the second quarter.

Maddie Thomas proved to be a tough target up forward, the Seagulls couldn’t prevent her from booting 3 goals in this game. She also managed to get 22 disposals providing many headaches for the Bridport defenders. Chloe Golds, Ainslie Black, Molly Kulikowski and Britany Hallahan provided the Seagulls were their only highlights they worked hard to drive the ball forward but would see the ball repel out of their forward line and head down to the other end throughout the game.
Lauren Mainwaring had a very quiet day for Bridport after two solid hitouts to start the season she couldn’t find a way into the game for much of the game. Darcy Murray and Parker DePrince were also very quiet as well.

The young Seagulls have a lot of upsides for the future, in their first season in the TFLW they’ve had two solid wins but their outing against Bridgewater showed they’ve still got a long way to go. Bridports start has been a lot better than fellow newcomers North Hobart, South Launceston and East Coast Swans who are all yet to win a game this season. Derwent Hawks have just the one win so far but are struggling a little bit early on.

Bridport will hope to bounce back when they travel to Ulverstone to meet Ulverstone, they’ve had a mixed start to the season winning two games but losing two games as well. While Bridgewater will hope to remain unbeaten when they host Latrobe at Weilly Park. The Ravens were pushed in game against Launceston and Sorell but were easy victors over South Launceston and now Bridport.

Latrobe presently have two wins and two loses, they opened their season with a disappointing loss to Claremont, then beating new side North Hobart, losing to Brighton and then smashing the Derwent Hawks.

The Panthers are wanting to try and make finals this season, they were a strong contender in the Northern women’s league before coming to the TFLW when it formed last season. But they’ve yet to really find their feet in the TFLW so far.

GOALS Bridport: Black Bridgewater: Thomas 3, Viney 2, Manteit 2, Davis 2, Hall 2, Doherty 2, Bamblett, Atkinson

Glenorchy with a final quarter fightback gets a big win over Claremont sending the Huskies to the top of the TFLW ladder. Glenorchy on 5.6.36 to Claremont 3.4.22, it was a very close tight game throughout the day, and it took a big effort in the last quarter for Glenorchy to win. The Thunder lead the entire game but were never able to fully keep Glenorchy out of the game at all.

Naomi Henley kicked the deciding goal to help send Glenorchy supporters home happy with the win, Alexandria Hallandal had a day out with 52 disposals. Bella Watson booted 3 goals alongside her 41 disposals. For Claremont Sarah Buckley (41), Eliza Hayes (36) were the bests for Claremont.

Claremont held Glenorchy to 1.3 for the first half of the game, the Huskies needed to regroup at the half time break even though it wasn’t a huge deficit. Glenorchy made some changes, swung some players around and hoped for the best. Once Matilda Thompson and Katie Juhnke started to get into the game the Huskies looked like a much better side.
Claremont’s Madeline Fitzpatrick was a tough one to overcome in the first half with her two goals and setting up Charlotte Reid for a third goal. Glenorchy were the only side to score a goal in the third quarter which was a well worked effort by Nicole Bartlett to keep them in it.

Summer Lee slowly came into the game in the second half as well, but she didn’t have much of an impact, Jasmine Graham was again quiet for the Huskies this week. Daisy Taylor was strong at Centre Half Forward; Lauren Linton and Tayla Morrissey were quiet but were strong in defence in the second half keeping the lead from blowing out and keeping Glenorchy in the game.

The undefeated Glenorchy are back at home in Round 6 playing Lauderdale, the Kangaroos had a solid win over the Eels at home. Claremont are back at home next playing newcomers North Hobart. The Dingos are yet to win a game this season, they’ve had some tough loses to start.

The Thunder will be hoping that they can bounce back against the winless Dingos, the young Dingos will hope to have a stronger latter stage of the season.

GOALS – Claremont – Fitzpatrick 2, Reid Glenorchy – Watson 3, Bartlett, Henley

Ulverstone hold off a fast-finishing Bridport to record a big win at Ulverstone today, the Pythons went on to win 8.9.57 to Bridport 7.4.46. The Seagulls trailed all day and came fast towards the end but the Pythons were just too strong. Stacey Kolodjashnij put the Pythons on early in the game, and they lead the entire game after that. Kolodjashnij went on to have 66 disposals and kicked just the one goal for the game.

Lauren Mainwaring bounced back from a quiet game last week to record 50 disposals and helped lead the comeback for the Seagulls. Hallahan kicked a much-needed goal in the last quarter to see them back in the game, but the Pythons were far too strong.

Nicola Byrne was also good for the Pythons, Dayna Smith in the ruck also had 37 disposals and booted a goal. Molly Kulikowski had 37 disposals and have an Important touch in the last quarter which saw a shot on goal for the Seagulls, but it wasn’t to be.

Haneen Sinor booted two goals and had 35 disposals, her two goals in the last quarter kept the Seagulls from getting close to them. Alexandria Chalmers and Jasmine Stokes both kicked two for Bridport, they were out shined by centre half forward from Ulverstone Kirsty Bowe who booted two.

After a quiet game last week Parker DePrince was also able to find a lot of the ball during this game, she ended up with 29 disposals. Teagan Irwin was solid in defence with 30 disposals and prevented the score from blowing out when it could have easily early in the game.

Emma Byfield had a strong first half, and a very quiet second half for the Pythons, but she set up a couple of early goals with some solid passages of play. After a strong start to the season Bridport have now lost two games in a row, however compared to their last game out they were competitive and almost stole a win. Ulverstone bounced back after their 40-point loss to Sorell last weekend, they now play Latrobe at Latrobe while Bridport travel to Longford. The Bears will hope to bounce back after their loss to Sorell. Latrobe will want to atone for their loss against last year’s runners-up Bridgewater.
The Ravens are forming as a flag favourote just behind ladder leaders Glenorchy, the Huskies wanting to make up for bouncing out of the 2023 finals in straight sets.

Glenorchy flexed their muscles at KGV Oval today beating Lauderdale by 60-points, and only conceding one goal to win 10.8.68 to 1.2.8. Glenorchy were on the board early when Katie Juhnke kicked her first and only goal for the game, after that the Huskies kept the momentum flowing. They’d only concede the one goal in the third quarter before running out easy winners.

Matilda Thompson again proved to be the ball magnet getting 70 disposals for the game and booting five goals as well. Alexandria Hallandal was also the ball magnet as she got herself 56 disposals and kicked two goals as well.

Glenorchy booted six consecutive goals in the third quarter to push the lead out to 40-7, Bonnie Fyffe (39), Reni Lambe (38) lead the way for Lauderdale trying to keep them in the game. But Glenorchy’s Ellie and Kate Campbell both kept things strong in the defence. Lauren Linton only had 13 disposals, but she was a strong cog in the defensive machine for Glenorchy. Dayna Code worked hard and scored the Kangaroos’ only goal for the game in the third quarter. Daisy Taylor kicked off the last quarter with a goal, Katie Juhnke proved a lot of run and carry through the midfield in the last as part of the power engine that was the Glenorchy midfield. Jasmine Graham was quiet, as was Summer Lee and Naomi Hart, but they were up and about in the last quarter for Glenorchy.

Bella Watson had a good game as well, Tayla Morrissey was quiet but there wasn’t much for the Glenorchy defence to do in this game as Glenorchy limited them to just 16 inside 50’s. Lauderdale had the one mark inside 50 as well, Glenorchy went into their forward line 41 times. Hannah Webb, Brianna Fielding, Georgia Bailey and Tiarna Elliott did well to prevent Glenorchy from scoring more than the 10 goals and having 18 shots. Kayla Makepeace managed 35 disposals. Amanda Nankervis managed 31, neither were able to get themselves onto the scoreboard at all during the game.

The undefeated Glenorchy travel to North Hobart next to face the Dingos, they’re yet to win a game in their debut season so far. They’re game against Claremont they were only able to manage 3.1.19. Lauderdale will be off to Kingston Beach Oval to play Kingston. The Magpies managed to pinch a close win against Devonport away in Devonport. They now have the three wins and a draw to start their season. They will be expecting to continue the pain for the Kangaroos next weekend.

Bridgewater and Glenorchy remain the only two unbeaten sides this season, both have won all six games Glenorchy hit atop of the table with the better percentage. Bridgewater are at home to Burnie, who beat them in last years Grand Final. The Wolves have managed to bounce back from their Round 1 poor performance, they went onto smash newcomers Derwent Hawks this week.

Bridport go down in a closely fought contest on Saturday, the Bears came back to win the game 6.15.51 to 5.4.34. Bridport would get the lead out to 9-points in the last quarter, but the Bears fought back and got over the line. Alexandria Chalmers goal in the last helped put the Seagulls nine points ahead of the Bears, but goals to Todd, Yeats and McDonough helped bring the Bears back into the game.

Neither side were able to get too far ahead at all during the game, Bridport seemed to have all the momentum on the back of Chloe golds 42 disposals, but when Cora Lawrence who ended up with 38 of her own started getting into the game the Seagulls couldn’t stem the tide.

Parker DePrince has again gotten 53 disposals for the Seagulls, Lauren Mainwaring had 49 disposals ending her quiet spell that saw her need to bounce back. Brittany Hallahan (23) booted two goals showing that she’s been quite the pickup for the Seagulls this season. Kellie Godden was the standout for the Bears, she had 50 disposals and was a key part of the midfield for the Bears throughout the day.

Tilly Hogan was among the goals for the Bears with three, all very important goals to bring the Bears back into the game. Seagulls coach Kaden Romero would be happy with the fight that Bridport showed in this game, even though they let the Bears back in, the young Seagulls are showing they’re not going to be a pushover this season. They’re only six games into their existence and they have managed three wins though they’ve lost their last three games. They’re back at home against a Hobart Devils who ended up going down to Sorell at home this past weekend.

Longford have gone win-loss to start the season, unable to get a streak going, their loss to Sorell was one of their more disappointing loses. They’re back at home against Latrobe next weekend, the Panthers getting a big win over Ulverstone and wanting to string a couple of wins together as they too haven’t managed to get a winning streak going.

The Panthers will hope to be able to take full advantage of a young Longford Bears outfit when they clash at Longford next weekend.

The Tasmanian Football League Women’s has been toying with the idea of bringing in a trade period for the league in the next season. While not set in stone, the idea is to help assist players who wish to move clubs and to also see clubs acquire some compensation in the form of another player of whom wishes to move clubs.

The league has issued a notice to all clubs of its interest in possibly bringing in this for the next season, while the league hasn’t stated this is a definite move for the league going forward, they’ve tabled the idea to clubs to gauge their responses before making a move.

The league had also considered initiating a draft, a mid-season, rookie and pre-season draft for the league as well. The idea has yet to be brought to the clubs, but rumours were rife preseason that the TFLW was considering making this a fixture for the future of the league.

Clubs currently can sign players during the offseason and can also select players via their zones, some clubs have opted against some players coming to the league from their zonal clubs, but all clubs have been given the opportunity to develop and sign talent in their own areas.

Glenorchy had made the tough decision to forgo signing Victoria White from their Northern Magpies feeder club she would go on to sign with the East Coast Swans. Emma Frost who now plays for North Hobart was also given the news that she would not be retained by the Huskies.

It was a similar story for Derwent Hawks player Jamie Wearne, who was let go by Hobart at the conclusion of last season. A former Hobart junior she was with the club until the formation of the TFLW, at the conclusion of the season the Devils decided to let her go.

Rhiannon Sadlier was also given the news she was not going to be selected as part of the Hobart zoned players signing period, she went onto sign with the East Coast Swans as well.

For now, it’s unknown if a trade period or even a draft period will be added to the league in the future for now it’s current discussion with the TFLW teams.

Glenorchy had a huge win today over North Hobart, winning 18.15.123 to 2.0.12, the Huskies remain undefeated on the back of Alexandria Halldandals 45 disposal and 4 goal game. Halldandal got the Huskies on the board early in the first quarter and Glenorchy didn’t look back after that running out convincing winners.

Glenorchy’s dominance showed not only on the scoreboard, but also the stats sheet with Bella Watson getting 59 disposals, Matilda Thompson getting 57 disposals, Erin Muir with 55 disposals, Daisy Taylor with 49. Katie Juhnke also had a day out getting herself 44 disposals after she’d been down on form for a little bit.

Glenorchy piled on the goals in the second quarter taking a massive lead into half time, the Dingos finally got themselves on the board through Rebecca Clarke. Their only other goal coming in the last quarter when Kirsten Gilfoy found herself free and kicked a goal. Daisy Taylor managed to kick three in the second quarter, Juhnke added onto the total in the same quarter. Ashlee Bloomer had 33 disposals for North Hobart, being one of the very few highlights for the newly formed Dingos.

Kristy Mohr managed to get 30 from Half Forward but couldn’t at all get anywhere near the goals to score any goals for North Hobart. Glenorchy would limit North Hobart to the five forward entries and of those they scored two goals. The rest of the game was them playing catchup as Glenorchy would run the young Dingos ragged.

The Huskies would see Summer Lee find herself in front of goal later in the game, she was held for a bit but when the wind was out of the sails of North Hobart, she was ready to pounce. She was working hard around the forward line, helping setup two goals and then finally she got onto the board herself.

Namoi Hart also managed to get herself a goal and add to the tremendous bag of goals that Glenorchy managed to score throughout the game. North Hobart’s defence was stretched with the fire power that the Huskies had ready to get on the board. Even Lauren Linton managed to score herself a goal it was such a goal fest for the Huskies.

Watson’s two goals came from out of nowhere in the last quarter, the Dingos had tightened the reins on the Huskies to prevent it blowing out even more, but once Watson got herself free, she slammed home two goals. The damage however was already done in this game, and North Hobart have been left to lick their wounds from this game.

North Hobart remain winless, they’re back at home next week against Brighton, a fellow newcomer to the TFLW the Bombers themselves only have two wins and have lost their last four games of the season. Glenorchy will be at home to Kingston, with the Magpies coming off a 25-point loss to the Kangaroos. The Magpies have three wins and a draw so far this season, their last win coming in Round 6 against Devonport. They’re going to be up against it when they met the red-hot Glenorchy. The Huskies have not lost a game this season and are looking like a strong contender for this year’s premiership after missing out on their chance last season.

The Huskies have had a decent run with injuries as well, with Ashlee Symonds the only player on their injury list currently as she recovers from having a baby. The 26-year-old Half Forward remains three months away from returning to training if she does decide to return.

A Breann Smith lead Hobart Devils crushed Bridport today at Bridport Oval, the Devils winning 25.15.165 to 1.2.8. Smith booted a league high 12 goals for the game, being the only one to do this feat so far in the history of the TFLW. Libby Boekhorst put the Devils on the board early, and they didn’t look back from that point. Boekhorst went on to boot five goals, as did Megan Merrett, the Seagulls never stood a chance in this game. The Devils lead the first change 3.1 to no score, it took until the third quarter to get a score on the board for Bridport and those were just two behinds. Their only goal coming from Darcy Murray in the final quarter.

Marijana Edwards went on to get 56 disposals for the game, Amanda Hurn had 46, Ava Harms had 46 disposals it was a very tough day to be a Bridport player. Darcy Murray had 38 disposals; Brittany Hallahan had 30 disposals. It was a quieter day for Laruen Mainwaring, but she still managed to get 25 disposals and worked hard to make a go for it for the Seagulls.
Ally Wiggg (25), Teagan Irwin (24) and Parker dePrince (24) got a lot of the ball for the Seagulls but they couldn’t do much with it for the Seagulls as they kept hitting a wall in defence lead by Alyssa Taggart, Tiahna McLeod, and Stacey Dunbar. They proved to be a fierce force throughout the game, none of the Seagulls forwards were able to get much into the game.
Elle Wingard was quiet up forward for the Devils, but Smith from Half Forward managed to do enough of the attacking to make up for this. Bridport would only have the 11 inside 50’s for the entire game and looked like they were out of their depth at every moment in the game.

Hobart have two home game coming up when they face Latrobe and then George Town, the Panthers were disappointing against the Longford Bears. The Sharks were also disappointing against Ulverstone, they have Longford before they travel south to meet the Devils. For the Seagulls they have fellow newcomers East Coast Swans who are struggling themselves, and then they’re back at home against Clarence.

The East Coast Swans have only the one victory this season, they beat fellow newcomer South Launceston in Round 6 before a heavy loss against the Wallabies at Pembroke Park. The Seagulls currently hold three wins this season, all against the new sides in the competition beating North Hobart Round 1, Brighton Round 2, and Derwent Hawks in Round 3. After that they have struggled against Bridgewater, Ulverstone, Longford and now Hobart.

It’ll be interesting to see how Bridport will go about their recruitment and the likes in the coming season and if they continue with current coach Kaden Romero beyond this season.

Glenorchy got a big win over Kingston at home to see them sit outright top of the TFLW table after Bridgewater’s loss this weekend. Glenorchy went on to win 6.6.45 to Kingston 1.2.8. Erin Muir had a massive game for Glenorchy getting 52 disposals and kicking two goals. Nicole Bartlett had 40, and 1 goal, with Matilda Thompson also getting 37 disposals and kicking a goal. The Magpies were only able to manage the one goal for the entire game, which game in the third quarter of the game. It was a tough battle throughout the game, without it being a high scoring affair but Glenorchy still put home 6 goals to keep themselves unbeaten and outright first on the ladder.

The Magpies were led by Lisa Maltby who managed to get 36 disposals, and worked hard to try and keep the Magpies in the game but even though they held young full forward Summer Lee to the one goal, other players were able to step up and make sure of a big Glenorchy win.

The Huskies were a little inaccurate in front of goal booting the nine behinds for the game, something their coaches will no doubt be looking at come the next training session. Kristy Turner kicked the only Magpie goal of the game.
Maltby had to move up the ground often to get any chance of possessions and much of the ball, Kate Campbell and her sister Ellie Campbell kept things very quiet for the Magpie forwards throughout the game. Clare Siggins in the ruck tried very hard with her 30 disposals for Kingston, but there was no way of breaking down the defensive wall that Glenorchy had built for this game.

With Bridgewater dropping the game to Wynyard, Glenorchy are the only team to be unbeaten in the competition, Claremont move into second spot on the ladder behind Glenorchy. Glenorchy head to Pontville to play the Bombers, Brighton got a big win at North Hobart Oval over North Hobart. Kingston head to Launceston to play Launceston, the Jets had a loss to Lauderdale at Lauderdale this week. The Kangaroos proving to be too tough for them.

It was a tough day at St. Helens for Bridport as they were demolished by the East Coast Swans 17.8.110 to 7.3.45. The Seagulls have not had a very good start to the season, winning just three of their first eight games. They managed to win the first three, but they’ve lost their last five in a row. For the other newcomers East Coast Swans, they’ve only won two of their eight games so far, beating both newcomers in South Launceston and now Bridport.

The Swans lead from the outset when Jacinda Houlihan put them on the board with an early goal, before going on to boot four for the day. East Coast had a run of goals in the third quarter putting Bridport to the sword and the Seagulls couldn’t respond at all. Lisa Moore booted 10 goals for the game, she was very unstoppable for the Swans, Darcy Murray led the way with 61 disposals for Bridport. Calista Stevenson (57) and Angela Marsh (53) were the leaders for the Swans, Lauren Mainwaring managed to get 53 disposals herself. The only livewire up forward for the Seagulls was Chalmers who managed to boot 4 goals.

Jacinda Houlihan finished with 35 disposals and the four goals, she was generating a lot of forward entries for the Swans, and it led to Moore to managed to boot a bag of goals. Mainwaring getting 53 disposals was a huge return to form for her as she was down for the last couple of games.

Bridport will be back home to Clarence next round, the Falcons lost at home to Sorell with the Wallbies being far too good at Bellerive Oval. While the East Coast Swans are going to be up against Latrobe away, the Panthers weren’t able to overcome the Hobart Devils so they will be hoping to get a much-needed win when they are back at home against an East Coast Swans side off a big win.

GOALS
East Coast –
Moore 10, Houlihan 4, Morris-Rainey 2, Anderson
Bridport – Chalmers 4, Reeves 2, Black.

Rachael Harding is set to debut for Glenorchy against Brighton this week, as Glenorchy loses Bella Watson to a foot injury for at least the next four weeks. The Huskies have been blessed to not have any injuries until Watson went down with her bruised foot.
The Huskies are presently only missing Ashlee Symonds who announced her pregnancy during the TFLS offseason and is unlikely to lineup for Glenorchy this season. Harding is a newcomer to the Glenorchy side, she was zoned to the Huskies through their junior football clubs and the 25-year old will finally make her debut.
Harding has impressed in the Development League, Glenorchy coach Dave Harding deciding to take a chance on her after the Bella Watson injury this past weekend. The Huskies have a few players still pressing a claim for senior football,
Glenorchy may swing the axe shortly with a couple of players also not having the best of form lately, the Huskies wanting to go better than they did the finals last season after they were bundled out in straight sets.

Bridport’s Sabrina Greensmith has today announced her pregnancy, the 22-year old defender will be taking an indefinite period from the game. Greensmith has only played 8 games so far for Bridport since she was brought to the club.
The Seagulls brought her into their linup from the Development League for this year, and she has had a solid start to her TFLW career. Coach Kaden Romero has given his well wishes to the young defender as she heads towards motherhood.
“We’re very excited for her, we hope she will be back around the club she’s a wonderful young lady. “said coach Romero at the weekly press conference.

The Bridport side is made up of a lot of young players mixed in with some veterans that had played their first TFLW season last year and were let go by their original clubs.

Greensmith had come to the club through their Development League side and she has been a great addition to their young list. She will be sorely missed out there for the Seagulls, but the Seagulls will bring in another young defender to replace her.

It hasn’t been smooth sailing for the Seagulls just having the three wins so far, but the club is hopeful for the future as the young club starts to get more experience.

glenorchy-huskies.png

Glenorchy have today delisted Hannah Scott-Lee from the club after a poor showing for the first few weeks of the Development League season. The Huskies cite a lack of enthusiasm and lack of progress during those first 8 weeks as the reason to terminate her from the club.

Scott-Lee came to the club through the pathways program as part of the Northern Magpies, but failed to show any progress in her time at the club and showed a big lack of interest and effort as well.

Glenorchy coach Dave Harding made the tough call to cut her only a few weeks into the season, the Huskie are looking at more possible list changes before the season ends as they look to try and keep themselves going forward. It’s believed that Scott-Lee wasn’t doing the work and showed no interest in being part of the setup and was let go.

She has been linked with a move interstate after she was let go by Glenorchy, a couple of clubs in Tasmania have shown interest in her even before she signed with Glenorchy. The Dingos had a few discussions with her and were keen if she didn’t sign with Glenorchy as a zonal selection.

Bridport were another that were considering her pre-season, it seems that has cooled a little since the start of the season but as the season progresses the Seagulls could reignite their interest in her. For now, Hannah Scott-Lee is a free agent and ready to look at her next move. It’s unknown yet if she’s fielded any offers for next season already, but for now she has time to look.

glenorchy-huskies.png

Glenorchy get a big win over Brighton today at Pontville Oval to keep themselves atop of the TFLW ladder, though the Huskies were inaccurate they still won 9.19.73 to Brighton 3.4.22. It was a very close opening quarter with Glenorchy only just keeping ahead of the Bombers. Rachael Harding had a quiet but decent debut for Glenorchy, from centre half back she managed 16 disposals for the game. Brighton’s Jodie Gargan was the leading ball winner for the game she had 62 disposals but couldn’t get onto the score sheet.

Erin Muir had a day out getting 56 disposals, Matilda Thompson had 53 kicking three behinds for the game as well. Alexandria Hallandal could have ended the day with 5 goals, but she only managed 2 for the game. Daisy Taylor also kicked 2 goals.

Glenorchy were very inaccurate in the second half, managing to score just 5 goals and kicking 13 behinds. Brighton didn’t have many chances to get on the scoreboard and weren’t able to make any mark on the scoreboard after half time. For the game they only managed to get inside their forward 50 15 times and were not able to break through the tough Glenorchy backline.

Kate Campbell was very strong down back, as was her sister Ellie Campbell, Rachael Harding played well for her very first game in the TFLW. Another product of the Glenorchy development system, Harding was given her chance after Bella Watson went down with an injury.

Katie Juhnke continues to get herself back into form, she had 38 disposals and kicked a goal slowly getting back to her form last season which had her as one of the top players in the league. Jasmine Graham was again quiet; she has been struggling a bit this season for Glenorchy.

Graham had just the 16 disposals and didn’t get on the scoreboard at all during this game, the Huskies will hope that she can regain some of her form from last year soon. Alexandria Hallandal leads the Glenorchy leading goalkicking this season, Graham has just kicked the 3 goals from nine games.

Glenorchy will be at home against Launceston next round, the Jets got back on the winners list beating Kingston after their three-game losing streak. Brighton will host fellow newcomers Derwent Hawks in the next round, the Hawks will be hoping to break their losing streak as they’ve just managed the one win this season.

The top of the table Huskies are hoping to make up for their disappointing finals campaign last season as they dropped out of the finals without firing a shot.

GOALS – Brighton – McCartin 2, Barmby
Glenorchy – Hallandal 2, Taylor 2, Hart 2, Lee, Juhnke, Thompson

It was another tough day out for Bridport as they were soundly beaten by the Clarence Falcons 8.14.62 to the Seagulls 4.1.24. A scoreless opening quarter for the Seagulls saw them on the backfoot early as an inaccurate Clarence lead 4.5 to 0. It was much the same in the second quarter, however the Seagulls finally got on the board with a couple of goals themselves. Jasmine Stokes doing all the scoring for the Seagulls in the second quarter. After that the misery continued as Clarence continued to pile on the pressure, Isabelle McDonald started to get more of the ball leading to her kicking her third goal in the third quarter.

Julia Collins was a handful for the Seagulls, booting two goals of her own while getting 37 disposals she bobbed up in that third quarter as well to help add more pain to Bridport. Leah Flintoff was strong at half forward for Clarence only scoring the one goal but she also had 23 disposals. Parker dePrince was one of the best for the Seagulls she had 32 disposals, while Lauren Mainwaring managed 30.

Brittany Hallahan had a solid game of her own, she kicked 1 goal and she had 22 disposals, she’s been a tireless worker for the Seagulls since moving to Bridport for her second chance at TFLW level football. Scarlett Campbell was the best for Clarence with 45 disposals she could only kick a behind but her valuable teamup with Julia Collins (37) and Bree Stewart (34) saw things become increasingly hard for the Seagulls to handle.

Chloe Golds and Molly Kulikowski both managed 28 disposals, Golds working overtime in the backline as Clarence kept getting the ball in there it was lucky that Clarence were a little inaccurate otherwise the score would have been a lot worse for the Seagulls.

The Seagulls have now lost the last six in a row and are struggling at the present, they travel to Devonport to face the Eels who themselves are coming off a loss to Sorell. Devonport have also been struggling this season with only the three wins from their first nine games.

Clarence getting back on the winners list after their loss to Sorell means their home game against Latrobe is a vital clash, the Panthers had a big win over the Swans and are keen to make it into the top eight. The Falcons will want to leapfrog rivals Lauderdale and Sorell to get into the top four they are a game behind the Kangaroos, Wallabies and Thunder. Hobart are a further game clear. Bridgewater is half a game clear of Hobart who drew with Kingston. Glenorchy is further ahead of them all without dropping a game so far.

Bridport sit down in 18th position with just 3 wins from their 9 games they are a game clear of fellow newcomers East Coast Swans, and two games clear of North Hobart and Derwent. South Launceston is winless on the bottom of the ladder which has them three games behind the Seagulls.

Coach Kaden Romero has a lot of work to do to get the Bridport Seagulls season on track for a big second half of the 2024 season. The young Seagulls will hope to do some good recruiting for te next season.

Claremont have today announced the signing of Hannah Scott-Lee, the former Glenorchy Huskies development player was training with the Thunder upon her delisting from Glenorchy. A product of the Northern Magpies development team, Scott-Lee was zoned to Glenorchy’s TFLW side and was promptly signed.

Scott-Lee couldn’t break into the Glenorchy side upon signing with Glenorchy, the Huskies held concerns about her fitness, motivation and work ethic and decided to part ways with the half forward last week.

The Thunder sit fourth on the TFLW ladder and have had a couple of injuries which has led them to want to give Hannah Scott-Lee a second chance to play in the TFLW. It’s not yet known if she will make her debut this weekend against Ulverstone.

Tom Martin has said he has been impressed with Scott-Lee on the training track since she started training with the Thunder. “We’re keen to see how she (Scott-Lee) goes with our club; she’s worked hard on the track and around the club to try and push for selection.” Said Martin.

“We will make a decision on her playing this week come selection night, we’ve not given her any guarantees she’ll make her debut.” He added.

Scott-Lee replaces the injured Kaitlyn Pears who will miss the remainder of the season with an ACL tear, alongside defender Brianna Hamilton who also suffered the same injury. Pears is an up and coming half forward who has impressed during the off-season with the Thunder but suffered an injury that has ended her momentum.

Hannah Neenan is also pressing her case for selection doing well for the clubs development side currently and has been training very well for the Thunder.

The Devonport Football Club would like to announce the club has decided to become the Devonport Griffins going forward as of Round 10. The club has decided that a new identity, new club colours and logo is what is needed to bring the club a new and better identity. While being the Devonport Eels the club enjoyed some success prior to joining the TFLW, the club has decided it wants to forge a new identity in the TFLW.

Devonport isn’t the only team to suddenly realise its need to forge a new identity in this brand-new league, Bridgewater became the Ravens after they had started out with a different moniker. We want to bring a big change to the Devonport area and make all our development clubs proud Griffins.

We have decided on a hoop style jumper with a blue, red gold and sepia colour for the forcible future, we have decided to remove the previously worn blue and gold colours and forge ahead with these colours.

Devonport is a proud club with much success in the North West of the state, we want out aim to bring us more success in the newly formed TFLW competition and create a new dynasty for the club heading forward. It has been a long time coming with different names, colours, and logos produced and put to our members before we finally settled on what will be our new identity.

We are at home to TFLW newcomers Bridport Seagulls, we are going to wear our brand-new strip at home and we are hoping to be able to sing our club song after a big win.

We hope you join us for what will be a new beginning at Devonport Oval.

glenorchy-huskies2.png

Glenorchy would like to announce that Erin Muir has re-signed with the club for a further two years at the club, the 21-year-old has spent her entire TFLW career at Glenorchy playing 19 games for the club so far.
Muir was a product of Glenorchy’s development team the Northern Magpies and has cemented herself as a vital member of the Glenorchy team. Muir has been a huge part of the Glenorchy midfield and one of the reasons Glenorchy hasn’t yet been beaten this season.

Muir has also had to step up more once Bella Watson went down with her injury, but teaming with Matilda Thompson and Alexandria Hallandal has been a winning combination for Glenorchy. Muir will be playing her 20th game coming up against the Launceston Jets.

Muir has averaged 25.84 disposals a game over the course of her short career to date, she’s made 53 tackles as well. Erin has also booted 6 goals this season for a career total of 7 for the club.

Muir’s best performance coming against Brighton where she amassed 56 disposals in a big Glenorchy win against the Bombers.

Glenorchy would like to wish Erin Muir all the best in her up coming 20th game for the club and look forward to two more seasons of her playing great football with the Huskies!

Glenorchy continued their unbeaten run today with a blowout victory over Launceston, the Huskies went on to win 15,15,105 to 6.5.41. Jasmine Graham hit the scoreboard early in the game and went on to boot 3 goals a bit of a return to form for her up forward. Young gun forward Summer Lee also managed to boot 3 goals for Glenorchy. Matilda Thompson amassed 63 disposals and kicked 2 goals herself. Fresh off signing a new contract Erin Muir had 50 disposals and 2 goals.

For the Jets Moana ford booted 5 goals and had 32 disposals for the game, while Catherine Steffe had 16 disposals and a goal herself. Julia Pitt had 32 disposals but couldn’t hit the scoreboard for the Jets at all.
In just her second game for Glenorchy Rachael Harding managed to get 33 disposals and booted 1 goal for the game. Jasmine Graham’s 35 disposals and the goals she kicked brings her back into the form that saw her win the leading goal kicking award last season.

Glenorchy blitzed the Jets booting 5.2 to just one behind to begin the game, the Jets finally got themselves on the board with two goals in the second with Glenorchy being a little inaccurate booting 2.5 for the quarter. Alexandria Hallandal booted two behinds before she would score her one and only goal for the game.

Moana Ford for the Jets could have had a bigger bag of goals if she hadn’t have missed four times throughout the game. Madeleine Thompson continues to be a ball magnet for Glenorchy, getting 30 disposals for the game.

Katie Juhnke had a quieter game only getting 22 disposals, but she was still vital for Glenorchy as they continued their winning streak now sitting at 10 games without a defeat and sitting atop of the ladder. The Launceston Jets have only had the 3 wins so far this season, they sit 17th on the ladder and questions must be asked if they are going to find a way to turn it around.

Launceston is away to cross-town rivals South Launceston next week at Youngtown, the Rebels themselves are struggling having not one a single game from their first ten games so far. Glenorchy are set for a trip to Boyer Oval to face the Derwent Hawks, currently on a 9-game losing streak having only beaten fellow newcomers South Launceston all the way back in Round 1.

The Hawks get to enjoy back-to-back games at home, but their next clash after Glenorchy is last years runners up, so things aren’t looking up for the Hawks to get their second win of 2024.
Glenorchy are hopeful of making up for their straight sets finals exit last season, the Huskies looking a lot stronger and dangerous then they did last season.

Bridport suffered a huge loss to the newly formed Devonport Griffins, with Devonport winning 12.19.92 to Bridport 0.2.2. Devonport took no prisoners in demolishing the Seagulls, it was a slow inaccurate start foe the Griffins they kicked 2.6 and prevented the Seagulls from scoring. Seagulls coach Kaden Romero tried to change things around in the second quarter, but a 4.1 quarter to just one behind showed that things were not working. Isabelle Johnson could have made things a lot worse for the Seagulls, she booted 5.5 beating Bridport off her own boot.
Rheanne Porter also managed to kick two goals both women got over 30 disposals each as well.Stacey Garner had 45 disposals and kicked a goal, while Stephanie White also had one goal with 45 disposals. Ruby O’Keefe rounded out a big day for the Griffins’ midfield also having one goal and also 44 disposals.Lauren Mainwaring tried her best for the Seagulls she had 43 disposals with Darcy Murray also having 41 disposals.
The only people to trouble the scorers for Bridport were Isabella Reeves and Jasmine Stokes both of whom scored behinds for the side. The only saving grace for the Seagulls was that Devonport was very inaccurate and didn’t put them to the sword more with all their forward entries. Brittany Hallahan tried hard all day for Bridport, showed again why she was offered a lifeline by the Seagulls and shown some strong leadership amongst the team. With 8 rounds to go in the season Bridport will be looking over their list and seeing who will be there next season and who won’t be. It’s been a tough introduction into statewide football for the young Seagulls, but they’ve been competitive even if the scoreboard hasn’t reflected it over the last few weeks.
Devonport keeps themselves in contention for the 2024 finals with this needed win, they’re currently sitting 13th and aren’t that far off the pace. Bridport sit 18th with just the three wins for the 2024 season all coming against fellow strugglers and newcomers this season.Bridport are back at home next week against Lauderdale, who went down in a nailbiter by a point to Sorell after the Wallabies fought back to get the win. Devonport travel to Latrobe to face the Panthers, Latrobe had a tough loss to Clarence at Bellerive Oval this week so the Panthers will want to try and get back on the winners list.
Both Latrobe and Devonport are vying for a spot in the finals and both sides need to keep on winning so that they can feature in the finals this season. For Bridport they will want to try and have a say in who finishes where with a bit of a log jam in the top eight currently an upset win over Lauderdale could set the cat amongst the pigeons in the race for the final eight.
Goals – Devonport – Johnson 5, Porter , O’Keefe, Garner, White, Dixon, Davies
Bridport – no goals scored.

Launceston defender Eloise Easton has today announced her pregnancy and will be taking some time off from football. The defender hasn’t featured at all this season for the Launceston Jets and managed 12 games last season.
The 23-year-old has been playing for the Launceston reserves side and was playing some good football, it’s unclear if she will be back with the Jets next season as she is coming to the end of her contract with the club.

Launceston had announced their side for their upcoming game against cross-town rivals and Easton’s name wasn’t among the selections. She was also left out of the reserve side before the announcement of her pregnancy.

The Jets and the entire TFLW have sent their best wishes to Easton as she takes her time away from the league going forward. The Ulverstone Pythons have today decided to drop the ‘Pythons’ moniker today in favour of becoming the Ulverstone Stallions. The club has decided on a silver and blue coloured jumper to follow them into the future.

The Ulverstone Stallions board believes that breaking away from the past of being the Pythons is good for the club going forward. The Pythons had a rich history in the Northern Women’s Football League before joining the newly formed TFLW last season.

Since then, they have remained as their previous Pythons moniker, as the 2024 comes close to finishing the Ulverstone Football Club want to start a new identity and new tradition to the club. Ulverstone join Devonport, Glenorchy, Bridgewater, and South Launceston in changing their names upon entering the league.

South Launceston begun their new lives in the league as the Rebels, Glenorchy decided to drop the Dolphins name at the conclusion of the last season. Bridgewater also had a minor change to their names last season to become the Ravens. Devonport’s decision to become the Griffins only just happened as well.

It signals clubs desire to forge a new identity as part of a brand new league, the Stallions are keen to forge a successful pathway with their junior clubs also becoming the Stallions and will see players come through a brand new training academy.
