Glenorchy remain undefeated as they demolished the Derwent Hawks today winning 15.10.100 to the Derwent Hawks 2.3.15. Glenorchy led at every change as the Huskies just kept showing how dominant they are. Glenorchy had a run of four goals in the first quarter where they would lead 27-7, come the third quarter and Glenorchy again went on a rampage booting 6 goals in a row to lead 66-14.

Brianna Cameron stood tall for the Hawks with 30 disposals and two goals to cap off a great day for her, Emily Libbis (33), Maddie Jakovich (32) and Kiara Graham (31) all stood tall for the Hawks but they weren’t able to get it on the scoreboard. For the Huskies it was the Daisy Taylor show with 6 goals, Matilda Thompson managed two, as did Lee.
Matilda Thompson had a game high 65 disposals, Alexandria Hallandal (57), Erin Muir (57) and Katie Juhnke (43) were the major ball winners. Rookie Rachael Harding managed to get 37 disposals herself showing that the future is also going to be bright for the Huskies.

Glenorchy now have 11 wins in a row and are looking to try and avenge their straight sets exit from the finals last season. The Hawks are cemented to the bottom and will need to do some soul searching in their first season in the TFLW.
The Hawks have been looking long and hard at ways to fix their issues for the 2025 season, with a lot of players possibly being moved on and some coming up from their development program.

It was the Darla Walsh show at Bridport Oval as the Kangaroos crushed the Seagulls 31.21.207 to Bridport 16.2.98. It was a high scoring game in front of 2,000 people as Darla Walsh booted 11 goals for the Lauderdale side. Alexandria Chalmers was a force up forward for the Seagulls booting 7 goals, Brittany Hallahan booted 3 and had 26 disposals. Hallahan has had a great season since coming to Bridport but wasn’t enough to help the Seagulls.

The Kangaroos went on four goal run in the first quarter to lead 25-12, but then finished the quarter with 11 goals to 4. The Seagulls fought back in the second quarter but they still 60 points adrift, after half time the goals were flowing for both sides with Lauderdale kicking away with Walsh starting to get herself more into the game in the second half.
Bonnie Fyffe also started to kick a few goals on her way to 6 majors, as well as Ayla Griffith, the Seagulls were just at a loss to stop the rout. Lauderdale was lead by Sophie Matthews who had 53 disposals and Nicola Cox with 50. Ayla Griffith finished with 42.

Darcy Murray was the major ball winner for the Seagulls, she had 42 disposals, Chloe Golds from the backline had 39 disposals. Parker DePrince was hard working for the Seagulls, but it was in vain as the Kangaroos were just far too good in the end.

It’s been a tough season for Bridport upon entering the TFLW as we turn for home with only a few games left in the season they will want to try and win a couple of their remaining games to keep themselves going forward. While the Kangaroos keep themselves in the race for the top four. They’re currently just behind the Wallabies, but there’s still a few games left for them to make it.

Bridport are sitting 18th with the other four new sides for 2024 struggling in the bottom four.

The Hobart Hurricanes could change their coach after a tough loss to Canberra in their recent NWFL matchup. The Hurricanes are currently sitting 6th on the table, but they have been struggling this season and have had some injuries as well.

Hobart currently sit just two points behind fellow Tasmanian side North Launceston, the Robins having had a draw this season and have also been considering the future of their coach Blake Lockhart.

Lockhart has also been linked with a move to the Allies All-Stars men’s team that’s about to join the Australian Football Council next season. Lockhart has had experience previously coaching in the men’s league in Tasmania before making the move to coach the NWFL side.

Jesse Munn has been linked to the job with the Hobart Hurricanes, he’s also been linked with a move to the Allies All-Stars women’s side coming into the NWFL next season. It’s unsure yet how the Allies All-Stars will lineup, they have made a couple of signings already gaining Robyn Black, and Charli Paice for their team.

If Munn makes the move down to Tasmania, the Hurricanes will hope to make some big moves in the off-season, with also a draft being thrown around as a possibility for the 2025 season. The state of Tasmania has some talented players ready to step foot into the NWFL next season.

One player being heavily courted is Glenorchy’s Matilda Thompson who has been a breakout star of the TFLW, the Hobart Hurricanes would be keen to keep her in the state of Tasmania should a draft occur next season.

The Australian Football Council have today announced the formation of the West Coast Phoenix playing out of Perth, Western Australia in 2025. The Phoenix will be wearing navy, gold and red and will call Perth Stadium home for the upcoming season.

west-coast-phoenix.jpg

The Phoenix will join Fitzroy, Allies All-Stars as brand new clubs into the AFC next season with there to be another announcement in the future regarding another team joining the league. The Phoenix will be joining Perth as the two teams from WA in the AFC now.

West Coast Phoenix are also currently working on getting a Women’s Side up and running for the National Women’s Football League. It’s not yet known if the Phoenix will join next season or the season after.

Fitzroy are also yet to commit to bringing in a women’s side, whereas the Allies All-Stars have announced their own plans to start a women’s side and have started the recruitment process currently.

The West Coast Phoenix will begin to form their squad, while possibly targeting some members of rivals the Perth Scorpions. With the season slowly coming to an end the end of season moves start to become part of the agenda.

The Australian Football Council have today announced the Glenorchy Storm will be joining the league in 2025 after recently announcing the West Coast Phoenix would be also joining the league. The Australian Football Council are looking to expand the league further with other teams to enter the league, a brand-new Tasmanian side has brought the count to three sides in the league so far.

glenorchy-storm.png

The Glenorchy Storm are also going to bring their side into the National Women’s Football League as well, with a strong women’s league in the state Glenorchy are expected to be able to add a lot of talented players to their list.
Glenorchy will also form a partnership with the Glenorchy Huskies in the TFLW, the partnership will see players able to move to and from each club over the next few seasons and create more opportunities for the women of Tasmania to play at the higher level.

Glenorchy had considered entering as the Magpies, as Adelaide had no issues, but the Storm have decided to forge their own path. The club will don the green and gold, with a green jumper and a gold sash. The colours pay homage to their days as the New Town Football Club before the merger between them and Glenorchy Districts to form the Glenorchy District Football Club.

In the Southern Football League Glenorchy will remain as the Magpies, and wear the black and white, they will also form a partnership with the AFC team to allow players to move from one to the other gaining more exposure for the club and the league.

With talk of the National Women’s Football League and Australian Football Council toying with the idea of drafts, it could be a great opportunity for Glenorchy to form a talented list of Tasmanians and interstaters with the draft.

The Storm already has their eyes on TFLW star Matilda Thompson, and Ellie and Kate Campbell also from the Glenorchy Huskies side. The undefeated Huskies have a very talented list that has been formed by coach Dave Harding.
Under the guise of the Dolphins, Glenorchy would fail in the TFLW Finals in 2023 departing the finals in straight sets. Since then, Glenorchy has used club resources to build a solid list delving into their Development territory of the Northern Magpies.

The brand new Glenorchy Storm will begin their hunt for a brand new coach as soon as the current AFC and NWFL seasons have been completed.

Glenorchy remain undefeated after demolishing South Launceston 19.16.130 to 1.0.6, the Huskies were on the board early in the game when Matilda Thompson hit the scoreboard, and from there the Huskies just punished the Rebels throughout. The Rebels’ only goal coming in the third quarter when Natile Sombell kicked a goal, unfortunately for South Launceston she also went off injured. From there the Huskies would run riot slamming on 8 goals in the last to leave the game with a comprehensive victory.

Erin Muir had a day out with 5 goals and 46 disposals, for the Rebels Maddison Kerin had 43 disposals with Rebecca Steven also having 36. For Glenorchy Matilda Thompson again was dominant and hit the scoreboard with 4 goals. Alexandria Hallandal with 40 disposals also had the 5 goals.

Rachael Harding kicked her very first goal for the Huskies, while also getting 27 disposals from the backline. The young defender hasn’t played many games for the Huskies but has become a vital part of their defence with the Campbell sisters Ellie and Kate. Katie Juhnke had a quieter game for her high standards but still had 33 disposals.

The Rebels will hope that Natlie Sombell’s injury isn’t a bad one, the Huskies will be welcoming back Bella Watson from injury very soon. She will need to work very hard at training to break into this lineup that almost looks set in stone. The Huskies are looking to go unbeaten this season and will hope to make up for straight sets exit last season from the finals.
South Launceston will be looking to recruit well in the off-season as they’re in their very first season in the TFLW and have struggled for the most part. They sit bottom of the table with just the one win this season.

Bridport have again come up short this time in a low scoring game against Kingston, the Magpies went on to win 6.11.47 to Bridport 2.1.13. It was a low scoring affair at Kingston Beach Oval, the Magpies got onto the board early with Kristy Turner kicking a behind and then after that the Magpies piled on the pressure to get over the line.

Turner would go onto kick 2 goals for the game and have 26 disposals for the game, Breann Dugdell had a day out getting a game high 62 disposals. Rachel Wood had 39, for the Seagulls Brittany Hallahan keeps standing up for the Seagulls she had 36 while Lauren Mainwaring had 34. Mainwaring would kick one of the two goals for the Seagulls in this game.
It’s been a tough first season for Kaden Romero at the Seagulls, with Bridport struggling on the field, off field they have been looking at some recruitment efforts to bring some talent through the club. The win keeps the Kingston Magpies in finals contention, they’re still in 11th place needing to win their remaining games to even get close to being a chance of playing finals. They’re also going to need the Burnie Wolves to lose their remaining games as well.

The Seagulls sit in 18th position with just three wins for the 2024 season, coach Romero will hope that they can get some wins from their remaining six games to end the season on a high.

South Launceston’s Natalie Sambell’s season is over after suffering a quadricep injury in the third quarter of their loss to Glenorchy on the weekend. The Rebels are expecting her to miss the next 7 weeks, and with only 6 games remaining of the season it would end her season early.

Sambell has only played the three games so far for South Launceston since joining the club this season, she’s booted 2 goals. The 22-year-old half forward has come through the South Launceston development program and finally got her chance to play back in Round 10 against Kingston amassing 38 disposals.

During the game against Glenorchy, she had 1 goal and had 25 disposals to three quarter time when she had suffered her injury and had her ruled out. She will be hoping to be given another contract with the Rebels for next season.

Senior coach Albert Tampling has said that Natalie Sambell has fitted in well with the South Launceston makeup once she got into the side, and he expects to see more from her next season.

“It’s a bit of a blow to the club seeing her (Sambell) go down, but we’re confident that she will be ready for pre-season training.” Said Tambling.

“She’s a first-year player here at South Launceston, and we know she has a bright future being only 22 years old currently.” He added.

She will join Ally Radloff (head cut 2 weeks) and Laura Humphreys (ACL tear season.) on the injury list, the club is confident that they will get Radloff back for their final few games. Humphreys though will also miss the season after tearing her ACL.

Humphreys has played six games for the Rebels since coming to the side this season, its unclear if she’ll be given another contract for next season as she was listed as a developmental player for the club.

Radloff has played all 12 games for the Rebels this season, after crossing to the side from the Hobart Devils where she played the 6 games last season. The 29-year-old half back also plays in the centre and will hope to do enough to secure herself another year with the newly formed Rebels.

A dominant last quarter saw Glenorchy get a big win over Bridgewater at Weilly Park today, the Huskies never trailed for the entire game. But it took them until the last quarter to really stamp their dominance on the game. The honors were even at the first break, neither side were able to get away. Zoe Viney put the Ravens on the board late in the quarter to make scores level heading into the second quarter.

Glenorchy’s second goal to Naomi Hart kept them ahead of the Ravens, the Glenorchy midfield was in overdrive, but the Bridgewater defence was holding strong keeping the Glenorchy forwards from getting away. Once Erin Muir started to get more of the ball and ended up with 46 disposals and two goals Glenorchy started to click.

Chloe Parker had 27 disposals for the Raven, her sister Nicola Parker had 19 both were among the best for the Ravens. Zoe Viney led the Ravens ball winners with 44 disposals. Katie Juhnke returned to her best with 45 disposals for Glenorchy.
Rachael Harding was strong in defence for Glenorchy she was able to get 36 disposals and kept the ball from remaining in the defensive 50 for very long. The Huskies now have a 13-game winning streak and don’t look at all likely to lose.
The Ravens are back at home against the Ulverstone Stallions next week, while Glenorchy are home to Sorell. The Ravens will hope to get the win over the Stallions and keep themselves hunt for the double chance come finals time.

The Tasmanian Football League Women’s wishes to announce the formation of a new side in the north of the state with the formation of Scottsdale Lions. The Lions were awarded the latest spot in the league ahead of the Northwest Coast Bushrangers who will spend the next season remaining in the Northern league.

“We’re pleased to be a new side in the league, we’re excited to take ourselves to the next level.” President Zara Ramsay said. The Lions have been competing in the lower leagues for the past three seasons and have played finals the last three seasons.

Now that the Lions are headed for the TFLW they’re looking forward to the challenge that they’re going to be presented. “We’ve been the new side before, so we know what to expect. We’re ready for a massive challenge of statewide football.” Added Lion President Ramsay.

Another Southern team will be entering the competition, so far Lindisfarne, Cygnet, Dodges Ferry, Derwent Park, and Lachlan have expressed interest in joining the league. The Dodges Ferry Mustangs are currently the rumoured favourites to enter the league, but Lindisfarne has also put forward a strong bid to enter the league.

franklin.png

The Franklin Magpies are making a late charge for the vacant position in the TFLW, after it was announced that Scottsdale Lions have entered the league for the next season. The Magpies want to join Kingston as the other team in the Huon region to enter the league. It will be interesting to see if the Magpies do keep their name as there’s already Kingston Magpies in the league.

TFLW officials have not commented on the possibility of them entering the league nor have they commented on the problem of there being two Magpie sides in the league.

The Magpies are hoping to be added to the league as well as Lindisfarne, Cygnet, Dodges Ferry, Derwent Park, and Lachlan all wanting to make a bid to enter the league. It has been understood that the Dodges Ferry Mustangs are expected to win the license to enter the league next season. But that has not yet stopped the other teams for making their own bids to enter the league.

There is some uncertainty as to whether any of the other clubs vying for a position will be granted access to the league in the near future or if this is a one shot deal for the league for them. The league has not yet again commented nor committed to more sides entering the league after the next southern team to enter the comp.

The TFLW has wanted to keep the Northern and Southern Teams evened out so there was an even number of northern and southern teams in the league. Hence the desire to keep the next entry as the possible last team in
the league.

Glenorchy were far too good for Sorell on Saturday running out winners 12.10.82 to Sorell 9.1.55 with Matilda Thompson again the standouts for Glenorchy booting 5 goals and collecting 47 possessions. Maddy Harding also ran riot in the forward line bagging four goals of her down. While for Sorell Emma Phillips with five, and Brianna Lawrence with 43 possessions were the standouts for the Wallabies.

It was a slow start for the unbeaten Huskies they were only four points ahead of the Wallabies at the first change but goals to Summer Lee, and Maddy Harding started Glenorchy off in the second quarter, but the Wallabies were up for the challenge sneaking in front of the Huskies when Brianna Lawrence kicked her first late in the second quarter.
Five points would separate the two at the three-quarter time break, with Glenorchy getting their very first challenge of the season. Erin Muir started to collect more of the ball and would finish with 45 disposals, Alexandria Hallandal started to get into the game as well on her way to 43 disposals. Claire McCarthy for Sorell was holding down the fort in the midfield garnering 40 disposals and causing Glenorchy some headaches.

The last quarter it was Glenorchy on top of the Wallabies with Harding, Muir, Thompson on top of the Wallabies and the onslaught was too much for the Wallabies to handle and the Huskies remain unbeaten but better for the hard-fought win over the Wallabies at home.

Glenorchy forward Naomi Hart was relatively quiet for the game up forward but was able to still garner over 30 disposals but was only able to hit the one goal in the last quarter, but it was enough to help the Huskies over the line. With finals almost here, the Huskies are edging closer to an unbeaten season after taking all before them so far.

But the Huskies aren’t getting ahead of themselves, after the game Matilda Thompson said to local media “We only just got over the line in this game, we have a lot to work on before finals. We want to make up for failing to fire in last season’s finals.”

The Wallabies are still looking good for a top four and a double chance finish even after this hiccup against the premiership favourite Glenorchy Huskies. But the Huskies need to work on their game plan ahead of the finals, after last year bouncing out of the finals without firing a shot.

Goals – Glenorchy – Matilda Thompson 5, Maddy Harding 4, Erin Muir 1, Naomi Hart 1, Summer Lee 1 – Sorell – Emma Phillips 5, Claire McCarthy 3, Brianna Lawrence 1, Rebecca Paul 1
