Theres nothing that **********es me more than people who mock peoples taste in music.
I'm not mocking it, I'm just saying it has no merit and that most people that genuinely enjoy listening to it are pathetic wiggers that will be chartered accountants or coke heads (or both) in about five years.

Some of my favorites are lyrical commission, drapht, muphin, art of war , bias b and the hospice crew.

Go to http://www.checkoutwax.com/index2.html and you can checkout some real player samples from most local releases over the past 2 years. Plenty of good stuff out there it just depends on your taste.

Haven't heard much aussie hiphop, but the little I have heard i'm sorry to say doesn't tickle my fancy.

To those dismissing the genre as a whole, i'm guessing you simply haven't been exposed to quality hiphop. You're more than likely basing your opinion on the manufactured rubbish which Video hits and Nova FM are spoon feeding us. That's about as hiphop as Offspring are punk.

I don't hate it that much, but it bugs me that Triple J play so much of it, just because its Australian.

There's no way to avoid it on radio now, which is annoying to say the least.

I remember when (well, i read about it anyway) when the good people of adulthood across the US and Australia derided rock n' roll as "not music".
Narrow minds, not liking change and the melding of new styles.

Rock n Roll has been around for 50+ years, to be even comparing Hip Hop to Rock is pretty desperate.. Hip Hop is just an evolution of Rap, and one that will continue to evolve.. Hopefully into something that eventually has a higher quality ratio than it does at the present. I enjoy some 'hip-hop' tunes, but there is just too much crap out there ATM for me to take it seriously.

im not into aussie hip hop, i like the nz stuff heaps though, and no, not just because of scribe

Why? Would be that they use fake american accents instead of there own voice making them sound just like american hip hop.

or whatever comes natural to them?????ill give the aussies theier dues for trying to keep this american culture dinky die, but it sounds really bad with aussie accents.

And the kiwi rappers still have a nice strong accent aswell, the quality is much better aswell

Hip Hop is just an evolution of Rap

Get this straight: Hip Hop and Rap are not two different styles. Hip Hop is something you live, Rap is something you do. Rap is not, and has never been, a music genre.

I actually like(hides) the aussie accent in rap but rap in general just doesn't make the hairs on the back of my neck go up-it doesn't have that emotional quality to it,unless it's Massive Attack otherwise it comes across extremely bland and heartless-that's why I call it muzac-elevator music-actually I've heard better elevator music than some of the crap hip hop rap out there today-if anyone can give me some links to classy rap or hip hop ,I'll give it a genuine listen -no boring Eminem 50 cent or that top 40 pap with girls in bikinis struting around to a boring as bat******** song-I wanna be inspired.

P.S.I know the thing that gets people excited about rap and hip hop cause they need plenty of it to get inspired to this dull music ......drugs.

Thats because Kiwi Rappers use fake american accents. We here in Australia prefer to use our own accents because we aren't embarassed of our native country.

Quality is much better? ******** you have to be joking, Scribe is dope, P-Money is dope, thats about it.

Oh and the prick that said about computerised beats...wtf? How is that any different to electric guitar...

mareko and Dkonz are awesome, Con Psy is tight as, R.E.S are mad, Kiwi hip hop is just overall better.

Are you kidding?? What is it if its not a genre.

And in my opinion, hip hop and rap are two different genres. Well atleast hip hop and gansta rap anyway.

Hip hop is a more grounded genre, no biatches, ho's or ak-47s. Theres no big noting yourself in hip hop.

Rap is a more aggressive natured genre, its all about having a winge about your upbringing and gloating about how much money and bling you have now.

Wrong my son.

Hip hop is all part of a musical circle that originates from blues, which is the exact same place that rock ' roll came from.
The reason I said adults used to debate the virtues of rock n roll is because it was a new musical style that people derided as useless and having no place in our culture. In Australia in the 1950s, anyone who listened to rock was frowned upon and it took a while for it to become regarded as a genuine musical element. "It's just noise" they said, which is exactly what people are saying today.
You can follow the revolution from blues (Howlin Wolf), rock n roll (Chuck Berry) through to soul (James Brown) and then funk (George Clinton) and then ultimately hip hop (starting if you will with the Last Poets). Look at the musical family tree and you will see how closely these people are related.
It is extension of musical routes - there is no new music because it is all descended from somewhere.
Hip hop as an identifiable genre has been around since the late 1970s, which makes it around a30 years old.
If all you are hearing is crap hip hop, it is because all you are listening to is crap music - it's not the fault of hip hop that you are listening to what the radio stations want to play.

Sorry Son! But if all Im hearing is crap hip hop, it's probably because I think hip-hop is crap.

Im not demeaning it as a musical genre, just stating I believe it's crap.. And in my mind and ears, the only opinion that counts, is my very own.

You and whoever else are free to make their own conclusions.

The rest of your post was good.

A lot of the current US hip hop is hard to take - again, you've got look past the charts to find it (which is what I was alluding to in a previous post when i referred to "if you are hearing crap hip hop....").

The old stuff - Public Enemy, early NWA, DJ Jazzy Jeff and the Fresh Prince, De La Soul, Tribe Called Quest, Run DMC and Beastie Boys is all really good - it either has a message or is about partying and is not the hedonistic mysoginistic stuff that we hear today from our friends Chingy, 50 Cent and Eminem.

lots of good new hiphop from the US too.

RA The Rugged Man
Jedi Mind Tricks
Ozomatli
Rass Kass
Chino XL
Crooked I

Have all released some decent stuff lately.

50 cent, new eminem (his old pre-radio stuff was quite good imo), Chingy, Nelly etc. can all die a horrible death for all I care. they misrepresent Hiphop in the worst possible way. But then, they are Rap acts, not Hiphop.

Porthos, the Hiphop culture has nothing to do with race, let alone racist terms like wigger. Either way, it's your choice not to know mch about the culture, and if you do not like the music iteself, I can hardly expect you to take an interest in the better artists.

However, please forgive me if I think your comments on something you know little about mean a total of jack sh*t.

Oh please give up. So you don't like hiphop..and your gross generalisations are pathetic..please don't participate at all.

I have a mixed reaction to oz hiphop as i have a few friends who are active in the scene down here. My girlfirends brother runs Burn Crew so I usually hang out with DJ Peril Ransom and some of the obese boys and back in Sydney i was in regular contact with Serek aka Unique from Celsius and DefWishCast.

But some of it doesnt really cut it for me atm..bliss n eso spring to mind.

I pulled out Organised Konfusion - The Extinction Agenda the other day for the first tiem in years...wow.
