Australian National Anthem in Auslan at Grand Final

Why would I go to an Auslan only event? And no it's not the same thing.
I don't know - a chick you fancy is there and you want to make the moves on her but cannot because you have NFI about Auslan? Just humour me and think about how you would want to know what was being said around you at this type of event, and then sign the petition!

Plus I reckon the fact deaf people couldn't hear the NA wouldn't phase them, I think they're used to these types of scenarios in their day to day.

Should we have an Auslan interpreter? Yes we should no harm to be as inclusive as possible, Do i think the deaf community will be very upset if we don't? No.
Its pretty clear in this thread that the majority of the deaf community on Big Footy want it and are annoyed that it is not in place...

We are reaching unforeseen levels of PC.
No, we're reaching unforeseen levels of self-interest.

Selfish twats who use political correctness as their excuse to feel aggrieved at anything that doesn't facilitate their selfish desires.

So self centered are these cretins that even the most minor of "inconveniences" aimed at fostering inclusiveness is an affront to them.

It wasn't that long that people would have been embarrassed to air such views publicly. Now not only do they do that, but they do it in such a way so that they themselves can feel like the "victims".

I'm guessing you're one of those types.

The thread was started by a deaf person who is in fact phased by it. Just read the god damn thread before spewing this bullshit.

Read the thread, posted in the thread people misinterpret what I said to be outraged and appalled lol bunch of victims.

Reckon people including the deaf have bigger things to worry about than having an Auslan interpreter for the NA on grand final day.

Please carry on being outraged though!1!!!1!

*Note to self - I said I wouldn't post again and i did... Idiot!

How exactly did I misinterpret this?

Go back and read the post by the OP that is complaining about this kind of everyday discrimination. It's not faux outrage because I'm not outraged in the first place, simply pointing out how stupid it is to post something like that when there is clearly a deaf person posting in this thread who is actually phased by this.

All that money wasted on ridiculous "entertainment" at the Grand Final but they can't cough up a miniscule amount to assist with a genuine inclusive measure. It's almost as if the AFL only care if something is getting them bad press...

As far as I'm concerned you can take your gird by the sea, the union jack, the southern cross and every single person who has a southern cross tattoo and hasn't yet lived to regret it and put them with the bat-mobile and the remains of Angry Anderson's career and BURN THEM.

Having said that, I hate discrimination even more than nationalism and if the AFL can afford to pay whatever bog-standard reality TV show "superstars" are available an appearance fee, they cam pay for an Auslan interpreter to sing-sign the national anthem for our hearing impaired brothers and sisters; especially given the outrageous amount of money they make on the grand final itself.

Signed.

Am I the only person who is curious how "girt" translates into Auslan?

You would visualise it. This would be my translation of the line into Auslan;
"Our home is girt by sea;"

First, sign our with two hands palm up, in a large horizontal circle to symbolise everyone and ours at the same time, then bringing it to close in the middle of the space in front of you and sign "home", then transit your hands palm down to stimulate the waves of the seas and circulate the spot where you signed "home".

The next step would be accompanying those signs with the body language and positions to reflect the music, syllables and beats.

Signed, only 983 or something more to go, come on Bigfooty, make it happen.
Yes, because as we all know, once petitions reach their goal they magically work out...

Surely the national anthem being signed by a little chap in the corner of the screen isn't going to make or break the enjoyment of the game for the deaf community?

I'm all for 'inclusiveness' but isn't this just another group wanting their 5 minutes? (In this case, quite literally).

Surely if they are doing the anthem at the GF they need to do it at all the finals?...and Anzac Day (or round is it now?) and the Welcome to Country ceremonies on Indigenous Round, and every trophy presentation...maybe at the Brownlow Count too? I mean, it comes up on the screen but it'd help to have the signing too right?

Anything else?..
