To be fair its protected the top 4 ever since it came in, including djokovic, federer and nadal.
How often have any of those guys dropped a match to someone in the 17-32 range at a slam? The more even the field is the more impact the number of seeds has (so I do understand talking about it now that none of those guys are at their peak). For most of the past 15 years there could have been only 4 seeds and it likely would have made little difference.

Answer just revealed on sen by Brett Phillips i believe. Hewitt and kokkinakis had a falling out some time last year, probably in regards to Davis cup. Hewitt holds lots of power at ta and the end result is no ao WC for kokkinakis.

That's disappointing to hear, because even if they did, lleyton surely should realise that bolt over Kokkinakis is a joke.

Kokkinakis has had such a disappointing career thus far, yeah I know the injuries and all that but still. What do people think his ceiling as a player is ?

Wouldn’t hurt him eating a wildcard for once. Barty was the same before her break.

Meanwhile Thanasi won his first match 6-2 7-6 against Safwat and plays Ofner in the 2nd round of qualifying.
Watched the 2nd set and wasn't impressed, I've seen him play much better. To be fair I have no idea how much match play thanasi has had in the past few months, but his movement is not great. He had to resort to a slice shot far too many times because he was out of position and this hurts his game. Will be interesting to see how he plays next round.

Cutting to the chase, can anyone really take down Djokovic. Won the last 2 GS. Playing in his most successful slam. Nadal unlikely to last the first week. Would have to be the shortest price fav in a long time.

LOL at Kyrgios' behaviour possibly being sanction at times. I heard stacks of people on radio all last year saying that he should be suspended or fined heavier for this and that, but the first promo I saw on Ch 9 for The Open as all about HIM. :p HA ha, Ch 9 and the organisers love him for his "draw-cardness"

And if they're calling up to whinge about him doing this and that, that means they're still tuning in to watch him, which is all Nine cares about for ratings and ad revenue.

Best of both worlds.

Does anyone know if William Hill are running Chase the Ace this year?
William Hill no longer exist as they combined with another betting agency to create Beat Easy, so I doubt it.

Barty is playing very well so far this summer. Let's see how the draw plays out tomorrow, but I can see her making the quarter finals at least.

Andy Murray vs Novak Djokovic

The Australian Open rivals will go head-to-head in a practice match from 1:30pm on Thursday. It's FREE to attend with seats available on a first come, first serve basis at Margaret Court Arena.

I sense that Nishikori will make his second (and last) run to a slam final here, seems like the right moment. His surviving that far without top form is questionable though given his injury record.

Djokovic won't win his way through to the final easily, but you'd bet on him to be there, and he is overdue at his arguable pet slam.

Federer on 99 titles is seemingly fate, completing a comeback slam-20th slam-100th title trilogy at the AO the last 3 years.

Beyond that, a lot of question marks. Cilic has a lot to defend, coming off the Davis Cup and has been eerily quiet. I believe that both of the young Russians have the BO5 hustle to go deep, depending on their draw.

Others would need the draw to open up a little, or display some roasting form. Chung & Edmund make the SFs last year, and Sandgren the quarters, so who knows what will transpire.

Can't believe I'm the only one to pick Serena, she wants that GS record and the AO is probably her best chance to get it.

Gone with Novak for the men's but would love to see a roughie get up (like Millman :D :p).
