ADM's natural game is just too conservative to beat the Sinner types. Needs to mix it up - he isn't going to out rally Sinner
He tried a bit earlier to create the angles and hit the lines but he was missing. His talent just can't generate that type of power and precision to put pressure on. He's kind of stuck with the more conservative approach. Lose-lose situation really when he's up against someone this good.

The issue is this conservative game style will never yield good results against the best. He is going to be stuck in the top-10 or so but not doing any meaningful at the slams unless he changes it up. His record against the likes of Alcaraz (0W 2L), Sinner (0W 9L), Zverev (2W 8L), Medvedev (3W 7L) and Tsitsipas (1W 11L) is just so poor.

I think his talent is in line with his game style though. He is just a better version of your hard working journeyman player. So I disagree that he could simply ramp up aggression. He's someone who should probably be about top 30 in the world and has somehow climbed to top 10.

Yeh that's fair enough. I agree that he isn't the quality of a top-10 player. But it's not just about being a bigger hitter - however that would be nice. Throw in a slice, come to the net, pull off a drop shot. In games like this where it seems like a bit of a training drill for Sinner you can't keep sticking with these long rallies and hoping Sinner will make the error.

So true. The Lleyton Hewitt/Ferrer counterpunching archetype just doesn't get it done against the top players in grand slams.

Agreed. There's been sprinkles of him doing that or upping the heat on his shots a bit (with mixed results). Probably not enough. The thing is if you have this game style you can't afford the unforced errors to pile in on top. The better player will generally just run you ragged until they creep in though.

Alex is a good player.

He isn't great, but He Is in the Top 8 in the world, has made quarter-finals in all slams, and did it on one hip at the US Open last year.

If things go his way, he can beat the top players, especially in the lower tournaments(United Cup, ATP tour). He has beaten Novak, Zverev, and Medvedev, all long-term top-10 players.

Alas, Sinner has the wood over him(and most people) atm. Tennis is about match-ups and this is just about the worst Alex can get.

Imagine paying over 1k for a ticket just to watch Alex lose in straights and not even trouble Sinner haha

Imagine thinking he was a chance lol

Everything Alex can do Sinner does 100 times better

I think Alex is doing fine. Only one break in the first set, has had break points on Sinner’s serve. Sinner is by far the superior player… what do people expect?
Yeah I wouldn't say we are seeing Demon be uncompetitive game after game. The class and skill are winning out for Sinner to keep him at arms length, which was entirely expected.

This is what Sinner vs a guy just barely in the top 10 looks like. The latter has to hope Sinner has an off night and turn it into a war of attrition. The power and accuracy advantage to Sinner is clear but it's not a surprise.

Enough De Minaur. Every year this guy gets talked up and comes up very short when up against a decent opponent.Sick to death of him.
:$

What an unusual response to a player making the final eight.
