De Minaur needs a new coach. Would’ve been unbelievable if he got Andy Murray.

You can stay in rallies by switching the pressure on the opponent with angling shots across court, down the line or drop shots.
De Minaur. Does none of those and runs around slamming forehands… to the middle of the baseline. It’s so easy to Sinner, Djokovic. It’s what they what him to do.
I don’t care if Alex loses with scoreline he did today by trying to win points or going for the backhand winner. Sinner then is too for it in the end, fair play.

No coach is going to change the type of player that De Minaur is. At this stage, he is a gritty counter puncher without any major weapon that beats 80% of the field.

I agree about Tony Jones.

With the on court interviews how much of it is Channel 9 though. Alot of those are done by commentators from the Internstional feed. Even those that are nine commentators like Dokic, Sam Smith and Courier are on both.

I think it's an Australian Open problem more so than Channel 9?

To be fair this isn't really an uncommon thing in tennis, especially during the era of the big 3/4.

“I’ve been a little bit shocked this week with how players have been treated by the broadcasters,” Shelton said.

He topped his list of complaints with Tony Jones, the Channel 9 sportscaster, who taunted Serbian fans, called Novak Djokovic names and yelled “kick him out” on air. It was an apparent reference to Djokovic being deported from Australia two years ago over Covid-19 protocols.

Jones apologized on the air, saying that he “overstepped the mark,” after Djokovic called his comments “insulting and offensive.” He had refused to do on-court interviews until he received the apology.

“I don’t think that was just a single event,” Shelton said. “I’ve noticed it with different people, not just myself.”

He mentioned American Learner Tien’s on-court interview, a stilted conversation at 3 a.m. in which an exhausted and dazed Tien, 19, became the object of some mocking when two questions left him a bit speechless after nearly five hours of tennis in the middle of the night. He had just knocked out Daniil Medvedev, the No. 5 seed.

“19 year olds aren’t meant to be that good,” the interviewer, John Fitzgerald, said. Then he asked Tien if he had ever heard of his next opponent, Corentin Moutet.

“I noticed it with Learner Tien in one of his matches,” Shelton said. “I think when he beat Medvedev, his post-match interview. I thought it was kind of embarrassing and disrespectful.”

Shelton then turned to his own experiences. After his fourth-round win over Gael Monfils, the interviewer said to Shelton that Monfils could be his father. Monfils is Black, as is Shelton, who responded, “is that a Black joke?”

He later said he did not think the interviewer meant any malice in the comment, but that it still made him uncomfortable.

“There are some comments that have been made to me in post-match interviews by a couple of different guys. Today on the court, ‘hey, Ben, how does it feel that no matter who you play in your next match, no one is going to be cheering for you?’

“I mean, may be true, but I just don’t think the comment is respectful from a guy I’ve never met before in my life.”

Yep Murray would be perfect with the proviso Hewitt doesn’t interfere at all. Should focus on getting a gameplan for a year that might work. This current one is no hope on earth of working

Saw two great documentaries, one on Neanderthals and how we all have about 2% Neanderthal DNA and one on the Salvatore Mundi painting. Commiserations to those who sat through the match.

Acutally... Sinner.... The no. 1 player in the world, often goes down the centre. Just because you didn't see it last night against the Demon doesn't mean he doesn't regularly do it.

He does deep down the centre there is a massive difference, ADM plays puff balls a foot short of the line as he is scared to miss, aka Hewitt. You have to be prepared to miss these days. Sinner would use that deep ball to then whack a winner cross court or down the line. Just look at the depth and depth is actually everything. Either go for the lines OR go deep at their feet, you hit balls a foot inside that's playing to not miss, it does not work against the top 5-6 players.

Sometimes feels the interviewers ask questions just to grab headlines

I get that they're trying to appease to the average grand slam audience who's at best a casual tennis watcher but the questions that usually get asked make me cringe.
