You're having a go at Jones for right wing crap, when there is no worse right-wing person than Djokovic in the world? An anti-vaxxer and staunch nationalist, who supports war mongers and genociders. Quite ironic coming from you Aristotle Pickett, someone who constantly speaks out against genocide particularly against Aboriginals in this country and Palestinian in Gaza.

Kind off topic thread, but THE PROBLEM is Novak, and always is him. He made it all about himself again, when not many peole really give a f*** what Jones did. I watch it live and thought it was very cringe and unfunny, but only for Jones, ultimately I completely forgot about it 2 minutes later.
Ok interesting take. Why are the Serbian council lodging a complaint?

No the problem is people turning a blind eye to clear racial connotations in the language used. How hard is it especially in the media byut in life too, to be respectful. You shouldn't need to make fun of others using racial things. This is hardly the first time TJ has made an error in judgement either. The problem is not Novak, the issue is the bloke saying it. Just don't think twice before you open your mouth. It's actually not that hard. Problem is people in the media think they have the floor to be at the nearest underground 'comedy' club.

This is all avoided if TJ doesn't open his mouth in the first place, surely someone at 9 could have seen this coming and warned him before doing this 'skit'.

As per his "request"? What is Novak the king of the world?

You guys follow Novak like those idiot RWNJ follow Trump and Elon inside a cult.

Novak is a tool of the highest order, and this incident showed agained why.

He is the one it affected so YES he gets to call the shots in this case. There should have been a public apology as soon as they received it from Novak, no two ways about it. Simple and it would have gone away. There's only one guy at fault here and it's the guy saying the comments.

EFA. Precious petal.

Has every right to, won the most Slams, you don't disrespect that person, you just don't. There's just no need for the comments, that's the bottom line, call it precious whatever, this whole AO has been farcical from the crowds to this. I hope we as fans get better and broadcasters sure as anything need to be better than this. No need for it

'Tennis great Boris Becker called Jones’s behaviour “very disturbing”, while two-time Australian Open champion Viktoria Azarenka said: “The audacity to call Novak Djokovic overrated by a reporter is just insane. The guy literally completed tennis by winning everything you can in our sport!” '

Usual lines from racists like Jones like 'just a joke' and 'just a bit of banter' .

If you worry about racism, I suggest that Djokovic doesn't enter the country anymore given he supports Genociders.

He's a tennis player, he's hardly some politician despite what you may think. Is there bad things everywhere in the world yep. He's here to play tennis that's really it. He's hardly going out in a rally anyway

People will turn a blind eye to anything when it comes to their favourite sports people.

Okay think we just leave it there and not turn the thread into the next politics rubbish (that no one cares about), all politicians suck!

Tennis thread lets keep it at that

This wasn't just about Djokovic. Tony Jones set the whole thing up. He asked the Serb fans to make noise when the cross started, and then turned around and abused the reason they were there for. His fans deserved the apology to be made publically.

The take from these guys pretty much sums it up for me.

Considering the appalling treatment Djokervic received in 2022 at the hands of our government and the fact that his fans, and by association his country, were also insulted I think it's not unreasonable that Novak said enough is enough. This guy has ccopped bucket loads of abuse over the past few years and he has grinned and bore it all, returning to Australia and carrying himself with dignity. I would say he requested an apology more for his fans and his country than himself and that the sign of a very decent person.

Was it a storm in a teacup? Maybe, but in our own lives if we upset someone then sometimes the right thing to do is make an apology even if you think the other party is being a tad precious.

Yes let's take Becker's opinion, given he coached Novak.

The same Boris Becker and convicted felon, who was in prison for not disclosing assets after his bankruptcy. That stand up guy?

He's a very public figure. Politics are part of his repertoire, and he's made it his life for a while now. He should've stick to tennis only and not bouncing the ball so much, like 40 seconds between each point, maybe he would have got more respect, but probably not as many Grand Slams.

Why did you reply to my comment make a comment that was not relevant to what I asked

Only thing I hate Tiley for is the ridiculous Sunday start, we don't need 3 days of r1 but we all know why that is- cash grab, just wish he'd say it rather than the laughable excuse of not wanting delays etc. Other than that he's done a great job.
Tiley's riding off the coattails of Paul McNamee and Steve Wood who made the Australian Open a world class event. I don't think he's enhanced the tournament over the years.
  • He introduced the 5th set tiebreak. No more El Aynaoui-Roddick (2003), Federer-Safin (2005), Djokovic-Wawrinka (2013) type finishes.
  • Introduced a Friday afternoon Men's SF, which I'm not a fan of. People are working during the day.
  • Introduced the Sunday start to "avoid late-night finishes" when it was all about making more money for an extra day of tennis.
  • The tournament has attracted too much riff raff who are more interested in pissing it up than actually watching tennis.
  • AO crowds have become worse over the years. Some of the behaviour I've seen wouldn't have been tolerated 15-20 years ago.

“Novak is overrated ... Novak’s a has-been ... Novak kick him out,” he sung back to them before adding, “I am glad that they can’t hear me.”

Was this the chant? Or was there some other thing where he started screaming racial slurs?
