If only they'd started kicking campaigners out a week and a half ago, might have made a few idiots think twice.

Try 5 years ago. It’s been going on for ages but Nick and his ferals have made it worse

What's bizarre? Player is injured and leaves. Bizzare are the comments here
It's bizarre because it's not Novak's style to just quit.

Why not a MTO? Why not call a Dr out? Would he have done it if he won the 1st set?

This is a guy that Loves the Aus open so much that he went to the high court of Australia one year just to try and play.

No, it was Lley Lley Hewitt and his obnoxious bunch of 'fanatics' that kick started the bogan/boorish behaviour at the Aus Open actually

He said in his press conference that the physio work temporarily helped things, but later in the set today he started feeling a lot of pain.

Novak doesn’t just quit if he’s a chance of enduring. 2023 he played the first week not being able to defend off his backhand side. As I’ve said, he knows his body, and if he says enough, then that’s enough for me to know there’s a real issue.

Or maybe he’s actually quite injured and thinks playing will only make things worse? You’ve got zero idea on what the prognoses of the injury is and the severity. I highly doubt someone as motivated as Novak retires simply because.
The severity would've been worth for three sets? Not just pulling out and resting and taking SF points? Fit enough to not pull out but injury severe enough to where an extra set is the deal breaker?

It's obvious to everyone now he carried something for the past couple matches but at least he used MTO's against Alcaraz y'know and came back in typical Djokovic fashion, it's this pre-planned agreement about how much he'll play with zero intentions on having MTO's is what's strange to me. If this was a known thing for all of us beforehand that "Djokovic will retire if he loses the first set today" then my bad.

Nothing was planned, what don’t you get? He said in his presser he has a tear, and that the pain got worse and worse throughout the set. We literally saw him taking pain killers and they obviously weren’t doing a thing. Zverev was going to move him side to side for another 3 hours, he clearly felt he was not up to it.

True the John Cain party court has made it 10 times worse

Wish he'd retired after the first set against Alcaraz instead. What a let down.

It’s exactly what our crowd deserved this year. Maybe after we might wake up and respect players.

Maybe Alcaraz should've not played so passivy and acutally beat him... Not Novak's fault
Never said it was Novak's fault. Doesn't stop it being disappointing.

Should he have even bothered if he knew he couldn't make it 3 sets? If he did indeed have a tear, he'd have only risked tearing it further.

Just seems a poor decision to have even taken the court to me. Waste of everyone's time.

Yeah and even if he gets through is he doing it against Sinner? He’d last an hour in the final if he even made it there at all

Worth at least trying it’s a slam semi. If he got a Zverev bad day they can happen just not regularly now then might have been 2 sets up in the same time he lost a set today. Worth the punt. Owes the crowd nothing they have been disrespectful brats all tournament

If I spent 1k on a ticket and the match was over after the first set knowing I wouldn't get a refund I'd be booing too.

Don’t pay it if you can’t afford it almost went as long as the Sinner-ADM match lol

They booed the injury and the withdrawal, not the player himself. That doesn't make it better, but let's not turn this into another Novak thread.

The crowd did the same for the Hyeon Chung semi-final in 2018.

Sadly, it's not a new thing. I guess if the crowd has paid so much money and they can't see the injury, then they think they are entitled to show their displeasure. I personally dislike this thought process.

This is another instance where tennis is one of the toughest pro sports. There is nowhere to hide, no one to hide behind. Glad Zverev called them out on it. It is just disrespectful.

He said in his press conference that the physio work temporarily helped things, but later in the set today he started feeling a lot of pain.
So why not call the physio out again?

Don't have a problem with him pulling out, but I completely understand the shock and frustration of the crowd when he pulls out without seemingly trying anything to work through the issues within the match.

I don't get how painkillers alone and going on risking further damage for three whole sets was in the end worth it if that was how he was going to win and then has a potential Sinner final right after.
