Alright genius. Who wins this third set then? It's 2-2 right now so let's see if you respond before it becomes obvious who is going to win it (unlike last time when you waited until the set was over to respond). The easy choice is to choose Draper because Kokkinakis is struggling with an injury.
The Americans had 8 winners and 9 losers in the first round of the men's tournament in the US Open last year. We had 7 winners and 7 losers in the first round of the men's tournament in this Australian Open. Two American men made the quarterfinals at the 2024 US Open. I think De Minaur is a good chance to make the quarterfinal in this tournament. Who knows beyond that with guys like Kokkinakis and Vukic.
It's really not that different on paper and the Americans at the US Open are known for performing well.

Haha no need to get stroppy with me. Just entitled to my opinion. I knew Kokk was injured and would have to win in 3 to be any chance, if he wins from here good on him.
And I’m not complaining that Barty and Demon have been successful but they’re the only ones, most the time after about 3rd or 4th rd everyone has bowed out from Australia except one or two of the top ones but only Barty managed to make the final and win.

We have unrealistic expectations for Aussies in tennis due to past dominance. The rest of the world has caught up and we have been brought back to the pack. It is what it is and I can’t see it changing in the near future.

It's fine to have an opinion, but don't be surprised when someone shows you facts that contradict your perception of what's going on in Australian tennis. We're in a far better position now than we were 20 years ago when we had Lleyton Hewitt essentially flying the flag solo. In the last three years alone we've had a world number 1 multi Grand Slam singles winner in Ash Barty, a top 10 male player in Alex De Minaur, a world number 1 Grand Slam + Olympic winning male doubles player in Matt Ebden, a world number 1 Grand Slam winning female doubles player in Storm Hunter, several Davis Cup final appearances, a Billie Jean King Cup final appearance and a world number 1 junior in Emerson Jones. It's nowhere near as bad as you're making it out to be.
Very true. We'll never be as dominant as we once were and some people struggle with that. You see the same thing in basketball these days with the NBA being dominated by Europeans and less American dominance. That's what happens when you have a truly global sport and the rest of the world catches up.

I see. Maybe my opinion was a tad harsh. If Alex makes it this year I will be very pleased. Barty was great wish she had kept going but she had other commitments in her life to fulfil, which is okay.
I just wish sometimes that we had more players make it deep in tournaments but they either get injured or lose before they make it that far. Like imagine if we had at least 5 Aussies win today…

Australia was never that amazing at tennis.
EGC, Court, and Laver were spectacular but tennis was a pretty wild sport back then, the Australian Open was a minnow tournament but I guess they did back it up at Wimbledon where every elite player made a point of being at. it was far more provincial back then – making it tournament to tournament wasn't easy at all.
Rafter was not especially popular with Aussies but he did do pretty well in an era of very good, but very different players but that 98-2002 era is pretty much a dead and buried little sook Sampras and a revived Agassi who was finally himself and off the gear. if you look through the 500 and 1000s winners of those years, it's not a fertile land of absolute champions. Cash was as big a joke as Greg Norman in terms of chokes. Scud cared more about cars and rooting.
Australia has done alright but nothing notably outstanding. for a country that had an almost total Anglo population when it was a very Anglo game and for a country that imported a huge amount of Slavs we haven't done that well.
Tennis is pretty evenly spread. Scandinavians, Germans, and Americans in the 80s, Americans in the 90s and – mostly in the women – Slavic countries come in. but since the 2000s it's been all over the place, had good players from Argentina, Spain, Greece/Cyprus. the old Eastern Bloc really truly started kicking arse from 2000 onward and it's been hard to curtail that.
