It’s also incredibly unpopular, no one plays it socially - it’s hard finding a casual midweek competition unless you go to an elite club and pay those insane fees - but when I was a kid at the height of Little Lleyton I was the only person in my grade who played it. and I came from a town where everyone played at least one summer and winter sport. If you're good enough at sport to make a living from it you have to look at what the best option is. For many young men it is AFL (or NRL I suppose) for lots of reasons. The tennis tour is not for the fainthearted when you are a young Aussie trying to make a living on the tour which is mostly on the other side of the world.
I think I read some years ago you really need to be in the top 100 (of the world) to make a decent living in tennis, you only need to be in the top 300 in golf. For Aussie Rules it's top 400 or so in Australia only. Then there is cricket and all the T20 comps around the world. Unless you really love tennis I don't think it's a very attractive option for elite Aussie sports people these days.

She’s a piece of human debris.Always such an insufferable, arrogant ****er she is
Once is an event, twice is a coincidence, thrice is a pattern.
There is a coincidence of players reacting to Australian crowds from Draper last night and Collins tonight.
Hopefully we don’t see a pattern.
