Went last night to see Novak. Managed to get a great seat at probably the lowest point of dynamic pricing. Don't know how it would compare to the presale price. Got there at around 5:20 expecting to catch some action at 1573/court 3 and hop around the block of courts 5-8 and 10-15 before heading into RLA. Literally didn't see a single bit of action before RLA. Huge lines for every court and the block of 5-8 + 10-15 was so crowded you couldn't even walk. Last few years have been okay but this year was out of control. Think they're doing the pass out system for the bigger showcourts and lines didn't even move at change of ends. Gave up in the end and more just walked around collecting free sunscreen which is always handy with their small size. Would also love AO/ticketmaster to require ticket purchasers to specify heights. I have been fortunate most years with the people sitting in front but last year was terrible.

Wonder what the total capacity of the courts themselves are? It baffles me how many people just pay just to get into the park and not see any tennis.
A lot less than 95,000! You can get about 45,000 onto the main 6 courts, of course the attendance figures include night sessions so that’s another potential 32,000 spectators getting to see some action. So there is enough capacity for that many to get onto a court at some stage, but you may spend a lot of the day in a queue.

A lot of people treat it like a carnival. Tennis Australia has leaned into this heavily.

I miss the days when it was a purely tennis event, and didn't attract so many casuals.

Have to gain revenue and interest. Tennis Australia under pressure every year from China, Saudi Arabia wanting the Open

Kalinskaya withdraws. Birrell's side of the draw has really opened up, huge opportunity this week for her.
Fantastic result for Birrell. You'd hope she is a good chance to beat the German Lucky Loser with the form Kim is currently in. Always great to see Gold Coasters performing well on the big stage and hopefully Gadecki can also take down her unseeded opponent tonight as well.

However, the match involving a Gold Coaster that I'm most interested in is Emerson Jones vs Rybakina. This is such a massive opportunity for Jones if she can put her best foot forward and really challenge Rybakina. It's obviously going to be incredibly tough to win but the headlines will be massive if she does. Let's go!
