Some runs just click. Just before I had a run on I think green stakes trying a different deck and got spare pants and stencil and played nothing but two pair for nearly 4 antes. Most celestial packs had Mars so I levelled four of a kind, then found a spectral soul card which gave me Triboulet. Only made it to ante 12. The extra mult meant I could sacrifice x1 on the Stencil so I grabbed Square joker when I saw it and just played nothing but two pair and four of a kind the entire time. It was the laziest run I've ever had but was actually a reminder that sometimes I start over thinking it and should just play what's dealt rather than trying to force something that might not happen.

I love watching Balatro University and seeing how he builds his decks and pivots mid run. Usually I prefer to watch his high stakes runs when you have to deal with eternals but even this white stakes run from yesterday helps me with jokers and synergies I'm not familiar with

Might be a combination of having unlocked more jokers & vouchers and getting more of a hang of the game, but the magic deck onwards have only taken 1 or 2 goes to get past ante 8, whereas the red/blue/green/black took heaps of goes.

Yeah its when you get up to perishable or eternal jokers that cost you money every round things can get bit more tricky.

There's a lot of hidden jokers too. I only got one the other day by discarding a royal flush hand. Cost me the run doing it too lol.

I thought that was going to be a pain until I remembered checkered deck and just kept reseting the first round until I got it. Only took 3 resets lol.

Checkered deck is a fun one and yeah easy to start as no chance you fail that first ante.

Assume youre doing this too but yeah i mass reset the run till im happy with the first two tags to set me up. Its frustrating when you do it for say a +10 multi and the card turns out to be perishable. Pain.

Planets are fine in early rounds but they don't scale well throughout a long run, so tarots are generally better, but it all depends on what jokers you get.
 
Just had a tips video pop up in my feed. I order my Joker cards as I need to for perks, but I never thought to order them to use +mults before xmults. It's basic maths and pretty obvious, but just never crossed my mind! Same applies to ordering cards when playing a hand.

Yeah it took me a while before figuring out you could move them in between each hand.

Some jokers work funky even when you think you've got it worked out. Even when applying chips->mult->xmult and you feel like you're not scoring enough then give this calculator a shot. It won't do it for you but you can plug in your current hand and your jokers and play around with it and see which order scored the most.

Had not really considered that...

I'm in a bit of a rut at the moment. I've got past the 8 ante 3 or 4 times but I'd say 80% of the times I play since have been completely uncompetitive. Just don't seem to get the right jokers pop up.

Xmutli’s are the king for big runs. Also anything that can scale and increase in power as you go.
